This 'Handbook' will answer these questions and many more. It is a fact-filled guide for finding teaching jobs in Mexico and Central America. It describes the job market and gives concrete information about where and how to look. There's also a mini-course on teaching English to help you in those all-important job interviews. And once you've found that job, the 'Handbook' provides practical teaching suggestions to help you survive. But it doesn't stop there. There are four personal commentaries by people who have done just what you want to do. And throughout the 'Handbook,' the author draws on her experiences from more than ten years of teaching (and driving) south of the border to give you that edge.

Book Synopsis Teaching, Bearing the Torch by : Pamela J. Farris
Download or read book Teaching, Bearing the Torch written by Pamela J. Farris and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2013-12-12 with total page 583 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teachers are torchbearers—leaders who impart knowledge, truth, or inspiration to others. Pamela Farris, joined by Patricia Rieman in the latest edition of this exceptional foundations text, clearly demonstrates how teachers bear the torch. The authors’ well-researched approach provides both positive and negative aspects of education trends. Their generous use of examples shows how teaching and schooling fit into the broader context of U.S. society and how they match up with other societies throughout the world. Farris and Rieman’s lively writing style instills teacher education candidates with a lucid understanding of such topics as philosophy and history of education, national trends, requirements of becoming a teacher, teachers’ salaries, how schools are governed and funded, demographic changes and expectations for the future, differences in rural and urban schools, and use of technology. Detailed lists of a variety of websites provide additional resources. Anecdotes of professionals in the field—authentic-voice narratives with frank insights into real-world teaching experiences—punctuate the text. Boxed scenarios concentrate on important issues and educators, energize readers’ interest, and stimulate proactive thinking. Other outstanding features are the book’s affordability and versatility. Instructors can easily assign all or a portion of the chapters to fit course needs.

This book shows a path forward for both. This book will be a tremendous help to the busy elementary school librarian who is working with busy elementary social studies teachers. As they are designing and co-teaching library-based lessons based on the Social Studies Standards Framework, the English Literacy Common Core Standards, and the new American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Standards Learners Framework, these reproducible lessons will enhance planning and implementation. You'll get ready-to-use lessons as well as model lessons to adapt to the needs of your own curriculum and students. All standards are applied—with needed handouts—and other tools and current lists of recommended resources are provided. Lessons are coordinated to common elementary social studies curricula at indicated grade levels but can be adapted as template lessons as needed. Current resource lists aid librarians in collection development to support new and current standards.

Book Synopsis The Internationalization of the Academy by : Futao Huang
Download or read book The Internationalization of the Academy written by Futao Huang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-25 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides a nuanced empirical assessment of the extent to which the academic profession is internationalized at the beginning of the 21st century. It indicates which are the most internationalized academic activities, and focuses on specific topics such as physical mobility for study or professional purposes, teaching abroad or in another language, research collaboration with foreign colleagues, and publication and dissemination outside one’s native country or in another language. It places the main theme in the wider context of the history of higher education’s internationalization. It provides explanations on what drives and deters academics from international activity, and documents some of the consequences that internationalization has on academic work and productivity. This study is based on a survey of 25,000 academics working at higher education institutions in 18 countries and Hong Kong on five continents. Comparing data from the 1992 Carnegie International study to the 2007 CAP survey, relying on respondents’ perceptions of change, and comparing different academic generations, it offers valuable insights on changes in the internationalization of the academy.
