Book excerpt: The next step the researcher took, was to create a carefully designed questionnaire for the teachers to respond to. The questionnaire contained ten questions that would help the researcher explain the answer to the research questions in regards to differentiated instruction. The survey included questions in regards to how differentiated instruction was used, how often it was practiced and how the students were grouped for differentiated instruction. The survey also asked questions in order to learn what the teacher's perception was of differentiated instruction and if they believed that it has an effect on the student CST results. The researcher provided a questionnaire for the entire teaching staff of the School, grades kindergarten through five. The teaching staff included twenty-five teachers; fifteen responded. The study answered the research questions: What are the effects of differentiated instruction of differentiated instruction on the students in the classroom? How is differentiated instruction implemented in the classroom? Does differentiated instruction help elementary school students achieve proficient or advanced levels on the CST? The overall response was that teachers used differentiated instruction daily and had been using this method of teaching for at least one year. All respondents agreed that differentiated instruction was effective and aids student learning and understanding the state standards of English-Language Arts and Mathematics. Respondents also agreed that differentiated instruction boosted student knowledge so that they were at or above proficiency in English-Language Arts and Mathematics.
