Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For no gentleman is this more true than Charles Morwellan, the eighth Earl of Meredith. Although he's seen the many successful unions of his Cynster connections, he has also watched his father's obsessions nearly destroy their family and fortune, a mistake Charles will not repeat. But as Lord Meredith he must marry, so he offers for Sarah, the daughter of his neighbors Lord and Lady Conningham. She's intelligent enough to run his social life, beautiful enough to grace his arm, and old enough to know the value of his offer. For most young ladies of the ton, the right marriage is the culmination of years of training, perfect deportment, and intricate plans that would impress a general. But as a lady of independent means with a life of her own, Sarah is unwilling to wed unless it is for unbounded love. But Charles always gets what he wants. He convinces Sarah to give him two weeks to win her; if he succeeds, they will marry immediately. And so begins an intense courtship. By day, Charles and Sarah are models of decorum indulging in innocuous walks, polite conversation, sedate waltzes. Each night they steal away to the lush, moonlit gardens, where sensual embraces turn to searing kisses, and much, much more. Both are swept away on a tide of passion and feeling neither can resist. And yet, after the wedding, despite nights of insatiable passion, Charles remains aloof, as if the near-sinful sweetness of their nights exists only in a dream. Sarah battles to prove that true love is a force that can't be contained, a gift worth fighting for, but it's only when she's engulfed in a web of increasingly dangerous incidents that Charles discovers how much he's willing to surrender to protect . . . the taste of innocence.

Book excerpt: Falling for my best friend's sister was something I never thought I'd do. Not only have I known Violet for almost her whole life, but Renzo was sure to give all his friends the don't touch my sister speech as soon as she became a teenager. After a drunken night when we were snowed in at a cabin, I may have been too flirtatious. I think I freaked her out, because she's refused to talk about what happened since then. But after a weekend away with friends, me and Violet end up alone, and confessions are finally made. She's too good for me-sweet, pure, and innocent. I'm tainted with a reputation that does me no favors. Renzo knows I've never committed to anyone. He knows everything about me and the many women I've been with, and that's why I know he'll never be okay with me and his sister being together. After a taste of Violet, I know I've finally found something worth fighting for, even if I have to fight my best friend.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the greatest spiritual teachers of the twentieth century encourages you to embrace your childlike curiosity and reconnect it to your adult sensibilities. Innocence, Knowledge, and Wonder: What Happened to the Sense of Wonder I Felt as a Child? looks to each person’s last state of innocence—childhood—to recover the ability to truly be curious. Osho discusses why it is important to look to our “inner child” and how it can help you understand the person you have become. Osho challenges readers to examine and break free of the conditioned belief systems and prejudices that limit their capacity to enjoy life in all its richness. He has been described by the Sunday Times of London as one of the “1000 Makers of the 20th Century” and by Sunday Mid-Day (India) as one of the ten people—along with Gandhi, Nehru, and Buddha—who have changed the destiny of India. Since his death in 1990, the influence of his teachings continues to expand, reaching seekers of all ages in virtually every country of the world.

Book excerpt: INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER Named a Notable Book of 2021 by NPR and The Washington Post From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen. Stanley Tucci grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the kitchen table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the savory recipes and into the compelling stories behind them. Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about his growing up in Westchester, New York; preparing for and shooting the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia; falling in love over dinner; and teaming up with his wife to create meals for a multitude of children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burned dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last. Written with Stanley’s signature wry humor, Taste is for fans of Bill Buford, Gabrielle Hamilton, and Ruth Reichl—and anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Taste of Art offers a sample of scholarly essays that examine the role of food in Western contemporary art practices. The contributors are scholars from a range of disciplines, including art history, philosophy, film studies, and history. As a whole, the volume illustrates how artists engage with food as matter and process in order to explore alternative aesthetic strategies and indicate countercultural shifts in society. The collection opens by exploring the theoretical intersections of art and food, food art’s historical root in Futurism, and the ways in which food carries gendered meaning in popular film. Subsequent sections analyze the ways in which artists challenge mainstream ideas through food in a variety of scenarios. Beginning from a focus on the body and subjectivity, the authors zoom out to look at the domestic sphere, and finally the public sphere. Here are essays that study a range of artists including, among others, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Daniel Spoerri, Dieter Roth, Joseph Beuys, Al Ruppersberg, Alison Knowles, Martha Rosler, Robin Weltsch, Vicki Hodgetts, Paul McCarthy, Luciano Fabro, Carries Mae Weems, Peter Fischli and David Weiss, Janine Antoni, Elżbieta Jabłońska, Liza Lou, Tom Marioni, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Michael Rakowitz, and Natalie Jeremijenko.

Book excerpt: Stealing Ronan wasn't the plan. I'd never imagined I'd steal a boyfriend from my sister, but when I saw him strutting to my couch with his perfect body, gorgeous face, and that mouth-God, that mouth, it was like he was plucked from my wettest dreams and brought into my life just for me. Lusting after a straight guy who's dating my sister is a problem in itself, but the bigger problem comes when he's invited on a family trip with us for Christmas. Just as I thought I was doing a pretty good job ignoring his soft lips and curious gazes, we're hit with a furious blizzard, leaving me and Ronan locked up together. Alone. We're only snowed in for two days, but things heat up quickly, because it turns out I'm not the only one with a fascination.

In tracing out the arc of this intellectual and professional trajectory, Picciotto engages productively with the crucial religious, socio-economic, philosophical, and literary movements associated with the ongoing labors of the `innocent eye'".---Eileen Reeves, Princetion University --

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was born Innocent Murambiwa Hondo on 11 January 1961, in Chinyemba Village, Glendale, Mazoe District of the then Rhodesia. I had an official change of my maternal surname ?Hondo? to my paternal surname ?Chirawu? and acquired the middle name ?Blessed? in 1983. Since my childhood I have always aspired to utilise every opportunity that helps me help my fellowman best. I was brought up in colonial Rhodesia which was dominated by ?divide and rule? politics in favour of the white minority population. As a result the black child?s school was far inferior compared to his white counterpart?s. There was also a deliberate public policy to provide the average black child with an education only adequate for him to perform a subordinate role to his ?white master? and only 12% of the black children were expected to proceed to secondary education. These would form the ?elite? part of the society taking up occupations like nurses, teachers, clerks, agricultural extension officers and others. I was very fortunate to fall into the category of the ?elite? group, who made it through the bottleneck system into secondary education ? Salvation Army?s Howard Secondary School which was a syndicate examination centre for The University of Cambridge whereby GCE ?O?Level examinations were set and marked at that reputable university. I sat for those Exams in November/December 1978 and passed with grades B and C in 8 subjects including Maths, Science and English ? thus obtaining a University of Cambridge GCE certificate in First Division. I later on proceeded to a private institution, Ranche House College where I did my English and Sociology at Advanced level. My first job after school was working as a bank clerk for Standard Chartered Bank from May 1980 to Sept 1981. I then intercalated from banking to study for my Diploma in Theology at the International Bible Training Centre (Lagos) in 1982, resumed banking for a stint then did my initial teacher training from 1984 to 1987. I then taught Woodwork, RE and English in Zimbabwean secondary schools for 11 years, during which period I rose through the ranks of being an ordinary class teacher, head of department (Religious Education & English) and deputy head teacher. While in full-time teaching, I managed to study for a degree in educational administration, planning and policy studies as well as a part one in BA Media studies through Zimbabwe Open University ? the latter which was interrupted by socio-politico-economic problems in Zimbabwe that time. I was doing all those study programmes paying the fees from my salary and without a penny of assistance from the government. In Zimbabwe switching from being a teacher to being a journalist for the independent press was and still is, like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. In April,1999, I then joined the Daily News, the then Zimbabwe?s once most popular and best seller tabloid later banned and defunct from 2003-2010, where I served as a subeditor-cum-proofreader until the time I migrated to England in December 2001. By the time I left Zimbabwe there was every sign that the future of my colleagues, our newspaper and I was very gloom. After the bombings of our offices and printing press, our then editor-in-chief, Geoff Nyarota announced that due to the political situation and the hostility that time we were experiencing, he could not guarantee our safety anymore. So, I had no choice but sell my family property, buy a ticket, flew into self exile in England, and I have always lived here since then. Later on I called my family over to join my stay in the country. My grandmother, my childhood mentor
