Download or read book Tarot for Beginners: A Guide to Psychic Tarot Reading, Real Tarot Card Meanings, and Simple Tarot Spreads written by Lisa Chamberlain and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything You Need to Know to Begin Reading Tarot Cards For centuries, Tarot cards have been consulted for divination by those seeking answers from the unseen realms. The Tarot has been credited with illuminating solutions to major dilemmas, and even helping people avoid future misfortunes. The Tarot experience can indeed be empowering, bringing clarity to confusing situations and showing us that we have the ability to shape our future based on the choices we make in the present. Far more than mere "fortune telling," the Tarot is a tool for meditation and reflection, for seeing new angles that give way to broader perspectives about how we approach our lives. In this 2nd edition of Tarot for Beginners, best-selling author Lisa Chamberlain opens the door for newcomers to the Tarot in her trademark clear and straightforward manner. She dispels old myths and misconceptions about the Tarot, providing an objective look at its origins and its divinatory potential for 21st-century readers. Tailored especially for those who want to read the cards for themselves, this guide offers strategies for getting familiar with each card, a step-by-step breakdown of the process of a reading, options for tailoring the approach to suit your unique style, and advice for getting the most out of reading the cards for yourself. Most guides to the Tarot are centered on a specific deck, such as the Waite-Smith, the Tarot of Marseille, or other decks ranging from the well-known to the rather obscure. While these books can be useful and informative, their card interpretations are largely restricted to the particular deck they focus on. Tarot for Beginners takes a different approach, offering basic card meanings that can be applied to any deck, and used in tandem with any descriptions that accompany the deck you've chosen to work with. So no matter which Tarot deck you use, the information in this guide is relevant, providing a solid starting point for a skill you can carry with you for a lifetime. Foundations in the Art of Divination Tarot can be thought of as a kind of language through which we can hear and understand divine messages. This communication comes through the individual cards and through the symbolic system of the deck as a whole. Tarot for Beginners sets you up to learn this language with a thorough grounding in the key concepts surrounding the Tarot, including: The origins and evolution of the Tarot as a divinatory art A comprehensive overview of the Major, Minor, and Court Arcana Tips for choosing your first deck and getting acquainted with your cards Beginner tips and exercises for interpreting the cards Instructions for the basic 3-card spread and the 10-card Celtic Cross, two of the most widely-used spreads in contemporary Tarot A step-by-step process for conducting Tarot readings Advice on reading the cards for yourself Core meanings of each card in the standard Tarot deck The art of Tarot takes time and experience to master, and your willingness to study the cards, practice reading, and hone your intuition will be key to your development as a Tarot reader. Book Synopsis Tarot - Your Everyday Guide by : Janina Renee
Download or read book Tarot - Your Everyday Guide written by Janina Renee and published by Llewellyn Worldwide. This book was released on 2000 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every day you make choices. Some are big, some are small-but all will affect the course of your future. The good news is that you don't have to do it alone-the tarot can give you advice when you need it most! Reading the tarot for advice requires a different approach than reading for prediction. Tarot: Your Everyday Guide presents a new method of tarot interpretation. You'll learn how to use the tarot to help you make an informed decision and determine a course of action for just about any life situation. For example, in an advice reading the Two of Wands could mean you should set up your own challenges to work out goals, define issues, and work out compromises. If the King of Cups comes up in an advice reading, it means you must give encouragement, acknowledge the accomplishments of others, give rewards, and let others enjoy the limelight. Alternatively, it could mean you need to seek a mentor who has these qualities. The position of a given card within a spread, and the cards before and after it, will clarify the cards' advice for you. You can even use advice readings to augment traditional divination. If a divinatory spread shows trouble ahead, consult the cards for advice on how to avoid the situation or lessen its impact. Whether you're an experienced tarot reader or have never even shuffled the cards before, this unique and practical book will open new doors of understanding and help you integrate the rich symbolism of the tarot into your daily life. Winner of the 2001 Coalition of Visionary Resources (COVR) Award for best Self-help Book

Book Synopsis The Tarot Handbook by : Angeles Arrien

Book excerpt: In this updated edition of The Tarot Handbook, now with a new introduction by the author, Angeles Arrien takes tarot beyond the limits of the fortune-telling realm and shows us how this time-honored application is both a visual and symbolic map of consciousness, and a source of ancient wisdom. An exciting handbook for either a beginning or an ardent student of the tarot, it contains a multitude of charts, spreads, illustrations of the Thoth Deck, and other methodology tools for anyone looking for insights into personal and spiritual development. An anthropologist who specializes in cross-cultural myths, Arrien demonstrates how the seventy-eight figures of the tarot are portraitures and archetypes that are prevalent in the collective human experience. The author teaches us to use this realization to look beyond our cultural viewpoint or bias when we approach the tarot, and to rely instead on these more important universal principles, thereby deepening the quality and accuracy of our interpretations and expanding our awareness of the human psyche. A significant and classic piece of tarot literature, The Tarot Handbook is both a required manual for teachers and students of the subject, and an accessible and fascinating exploration of cultural anthropology.

Book Synopsis Stealing Fire from Heaven by : Nevill Drury
Download or read book Stealing Fire from Heaven written by Nevill Drury and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2011-03-02 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Western magical traditions are currently undergoing an international resurgence. In Stealing Fire from Heaven, Nevill Drury offers an overview of the modern occult revival and seeks to explain this growing interest in ancient magical belief systems. Gnosticism and the Hermetica, the medieval Kabbalah, Tarot and Alchemy, and more recently, Rosicrucianism and Freemasonry, collectively laid the basis for the modern magical revival, which first began to gather momentum in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. Western magic has since become increasingly eclectic, drawing on such diverse sources as classical Greco-Roman mythology, Celtic cosmology, Kundalini yoga and Tantra, shamanism, chaos theory, and the various spiritual traditions associated in many different cultures with the Universal Goddess. Drury traces the rise of various forms of magical belief and practice, from the influential Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn to the emergence of Wicca and Goddess worship as expressions of contemporary feminine spirituality. He also explores Chaos Magick and the occult practices of the so-called Left-Hand Path, as well as twenty-first-century magical forays into cyberspace. He believes that the rise of modern Western magic stems essentially from the quest for personal spiritual transformation and direct experience of the sacred--a quest which the trance occultist and visionary artist Austin Osman Spare once referred to as "stealing fire from heaven." Considered in this light, Drury argues, modern Western magic can be regarded as a form of alternative spirituality in which the practitioners seek direct engagement with the mythic realm.
