First they had new neighbors -- Professor Hillyard and his daughter, Pat. Then motorboats sped into the Cove mysteriously at night, without running lights. And Steve broke his leg, so Tony had to print his brother's weekly newspaper, though he had little interest in it. The annual calm is broken by a burglary, a theft, a series of perculiar advertisements and an adventure on the high seas, in all of which Pat Hillyard and Tony are tangled.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains books 4-6 of London Lovett's Firefly Junction Cozy Mystery series. Join Sunni Taylor, Brady 'Jax' Jackson and the Cider Ridge ghost for three cozy mysteries with fun paranormal twists. • A Humbug Holiday (Book 4) It's holiday time in Firefly Junction but not everything is sweet sugarplums and glittery tinsel. Sunni Taylor has been too busy to get into the holiday spirit, even with her mom coming to town for a visit. Her festive spirit gets a spark when Detective Brady Jackson asks her to attend the town's production of A Christmas Carol. But when the holiday classic takes a grim turn, Sunni's date night turns into a murder investigation. And in the middle of a winter festival, Sunni and Jackson must figure out who killed Ebenezer Scrooge. • Calamity at the Carnival (Book 5) Spring is in the air. Flowers are blooming, birds are singing, Jackson's kisses keep coming, and despite the occasional moodiness of her ghostly housemate, Sunni is looking forward to the season. It's spring break in Firefly Junction and the Stockton Traveling Carnival has come to town. Sunni finds herself saddled with an uninspiring story assignment. But in between the mix of sugary carnival treats, scream-inducing rides and timeless arcade games, someone murders Madame Cherise, the fortune teller, and Sunni's assignment takes a wild turn. • Double Trouble (Book 6) Firefly Junction meets Port Danby as Lola and Lacey take a trip to the Cider Ridge Inn in Double Trouble. Sunni Taylor is finally going to meet Lola Button, the quirky antique dealer who sold her some rather unusual old photos of Cider Ridge Inn. When Lola arrives with her best friend, Lacey Pinkerton, Sunni and Lacey find they have a lot in common. When Sunni's friend, Raine, is invited to attend a wiccan ceremony celebrating the Autumnal Equinox, the four women decide it would be fun and find themselves traipsing through the forest to attend the Mabon Apple Harvest Rite. Amidst the incense and incantations, a shocking discovery is made. A dead body. Sunni and her new sleuthing partner, Lacey, immediately jump into action. The two women are ready to pool their skills and find the killer. More in the series: Havoc at Wildwood Manor (Book 7) Fatal Feud (Book 8) Trick or Trouble (Book 9) A Crafty Killing (Book 10) Death at the Museum (Book 11) Murder at the Pumpkin Patch (Book 12)

Book excerpt: B>" This exciting book helps teachers turn high school students into lifelong readers by approaching reading literature as a process and encouraging teachers to center their classroom on the student instead of focussing on the literature. A Classroom of Teenaged Readers explores how teenagers actually read, and conveys the importance of knowing what interests teens and how they evolved as readers. By understanding a teen's reading history, teachers can then create student-centered literature classrooms that focus on the needs and interests of their students. High school English teachers.

Book excerpt: The second collection of Jack Benton’s thrilling Slim Hardy Mysteries, including books 4-6 in the series: Slow Train, The Angler’s Tale and Eight Days. Slow Train On the evening of Saturday, January 15th, 1977, a local commuter train is delayed at a small village station by a freak blizzard. Young nurse Jennifer Evans, keen to get back to her family, plans to walk the last couple of miles to her home in a neighbouring village. She phones her daughter to confirm that she’s on her way, but she never arrives home.In the ensuing police investigation, no trace of Jennifer Evans is ever found. The only evidence is a photograph taken by a fellow passenger of footprints in the snow in front of Holdergate station. It appears someone was fleeing for their life…. Contacted by Jennifer’s daughter, at first it seems private investigator John “Slim” Hardy has no chance of solving a forty-two-year-old mystery. But as the case begins to unravel, Slim finds himself caught in the centre of a whirlwind which will send him spinning to a dramatic conclusion. The Angler’s Tale Attempting to forget his problems with the bottle, former soldier turned private detective John “Slim” Hardy joins what ought to be a peaceful fishing package holiday in Dartmouth, South Devon. But when a violent tragedy affects one of the other tour guests, Slim finds himself on the trail of a potential killer. Set in the beautiful surrounds of the River Dart estuary and Agatha Christie’s Greenway, The Angler’s Tale will take Slim Hardy into places darker than any he has faced before. Eight Days After nearly a year out of the game, former soldier turned private detective John "Slim" Hardy takes what he hopes will be an easy comeback case in the quiet Devonshire town of Launceston. The disappearance in mysterious circumstances of local schoolgirl Emily Martin left police clueless. After being missing for eight days, her sudden reappearance left them equally baffled. Apparently unharmed, Emily claimed no memory of her period of abduction, and in time, the investigation faded. Two years later, as her relationship with her daughter falls apart, Emily's desperate mother Georgia turns to Slim, wanting answers. Her eight days missing has changed Emily, so much so that Georgia is unsure the girl is even her daughter at all ...
