Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Take Me to Paris, Johnny is John Foster’s moving yet unsentimental account of the life of his partner, Juan Céspedes. It traces Juan’s youth in Cuba and his move to New York, where he struggles to make it as a dancer. There, in 1981—in ‘a chance encounter, much like any other’—he meets John, an Australian historian. What begins as just a fling becomes a dazzling six-year affair. The two travel between New York, Berlin and Melbourne, struggling with bureaucracy in their quest to gain Juan residency in Australia, then with the disease taking the lives of gay men around the globe. To the end, Juan—‘an exotic bird, the only one of his kind’ in Melbourne—is captivating, witty, headstrong. First published in 1993, not long before John Foster’s death, Take Me to Paris, Johnny is brilliant and unflinching, at once controlled and impassioned: a love story told with humour and unerring skill. This edition includes an introduction by Peter Craven and an expanded biographical portrait of the author by John Rickard. John Foster was born in Melbourne in 1944. He studied at the University of Melbourne, then in Germany and the United Kingdom. In 1971 he returned to the University of Melbourne, where for many years he lectured in the Department of History. He edited the collections Community of Fate: Memoirs of German Jews in Melbourne (1986) and Victorian Picturesque: The Colonial Gardens of William Sangster (1989). Take Me to Paris, Johnny was Foster’s tribute to his lover, Juan Céspedes, a Cuban dancer who died of AIDS in 1987. The memoir was published in 1993 and shortlisted for the Age Book of the Year award; within a year, John Foster himself was dead. ‘[A] literary masterpiece...Unparalleled in Australian letters...Makes most fiction, here or elsewhere, look paltry by comparison.’ Peter Craven, from the Introduction ‘A superbly crafted memoir...[A] subtle balance of formality and intimacy, of rationality and passion.’ John Rickard, from the Afterword ‘Brilliantly accomplished use of language...Few other books documenting this illness rumble and resonate with such sustained power.’ Robert Dessaix ‘[Take Me to Paris, Johnny] reminds us of the complexity of relationships...of the simultaneous strength and fragility of love.’ Denis Altman ‘A remarkable, beautifully written memoir that captures and preserves the jittery zeitgeist among active gay men moving around the globe in the early ’80s.’ Gail Bell, Monthly ‘Finely written...Foster deftly recounted his “cross-colour, cross-class” relationship, and brought his lover back to life on the page.’ Steve Dow, Age

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As atrocity has become characteristic of modern history, testimonial writing has become a major twentieth-century genre. Untimely Interventions relates testimonial writing, or witnessing, to the cultural situation of aftermath, exploring ways in which a culture can be haunted by its own history. Ross Chambers argues that culture produces itself as civilized by denying the forms of collective violence and other traumatic experience that it cannot control. In the context of such denial, personal accounts of collective disaster can function as a form of counter-denial. By investigating a range of writing on AIDS, the First World War, and the Holocaust, Chambers shows how such writing produces a rhetorical effect of haunting, as it seeks to describe the reality of those experiences culture renders unspeakable. Ross Chambers is Professor of Romance Languages at the University of Michigan. His other books includeFacing It: AIDS Diaries and the Death of the Author.

But Logan isn’t the man he used to be, or the asset he once was. Five months ago his life changed forever when he was captured, tortured and left for dead by Youssef Selim, one of the world’s most violent terrorists. When Selim mysteriously reappears in Paris, linked to the kidnapping of America’s Attorney General, Logan smells his chance for revenge. Pursuing his man relentlessly, oblivious to the growing trail of destruction that he leaves in his wake, Logan delves increasingly deep into the web of lies and deceit surrounding the kidnapping. Finally, he comes to learn just what it means to Dance with the Enemy. The action-packed and gripping first chapter in the highly-acclaimed and bestselling Enemy series of espionage thrillers featuring Carl Logan. A fast-paced thriller filled with twists, turns, and intrigue that will grip fans of Mark Dawson and the Jason Bourne novels. Readers LOVE Rob Sinclair’s books: ‘Wow, what a book, I loved it!! Rob Sinclair has an innate ability to draw you in and take you on an amazing ride, the character of agent Carl Logan is so authentic and Sinclair portrays him particularly well. All the characters in this story are well developed, the plot is fast paced, intriguing and totally entertaining. I really can't recommend this book highly enough.‘ – Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘OMG ,OMG, OMG I was bouncing off the walls when I realised Carl Logan is back with a new identity in a brand new series. After being gutted when the Enemy series ended. Just in case you didn't know I am a massive fan... lol. But Rob Sinclair has pulled out all the punches with this latest story, it is without a doubt his best book yet..... I freaking loved it.’ – Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘I would think Rob Sinclair might rival some of the greats in his field. His writing is tight, current and gripping. He weaves easily between settings and great characters –there appear to be quite a few. And the pace is compelling. This all leads on to a most excellent ending.’– Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘Crikey The Red Cobra opens with an action packed scene and it pretty well doesn’t let up for the rest of the novel. Short chapters with cliffhanger endings add a breathless pace so that The Red Cobra is a really exciting read. I genuinely found it heart-thumpingly exciting and the events even pervaded my dreams at night! There’s quite a bit of violence but Rob Sinclair also knows less is more so he is a master of suggestion as well as description making for an elevated pulse rate in his readers. The Red Cobra is exciting, well written and absorbing – definitely a ‘can’t put it down thriller’. I loved it.’– Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘The Red Cobra is one fast paced, action packed, thrill of a read. It is actually screaming out to be put on the big screen. Who needs Lara Croft when you have The Red Cobra? Without a doubt this is a fantastic start to a new series and I am literally counting the days down until the author quenches my thirst for more.’– Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 'This book is perfect for the fans of Robert Ludlum, Jim Grant and early James Patterson works.' – Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘Brilliantly crafted high-octane thriller with echoes of Robert Ludlum’s infamous Bourne novels!’– Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘I can highly recommend this brilliant book by the master of action, Rob Sinclair.’– Goodreads reviewer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As she pounded on the door of the Metro to let her in, the train lurched forward and started to move. Running over to look through the window where her younger sister Zoe and cousin Thibault sat alone, she yelled, “go to Thibault’s house.” Watching helplessly, the train disappeared into the tunnel. Anna Dahlia, a middle school girl on a Paris family vacation, wanted to prove her independence and show how responsible she could be. She never thought it would be this tough. While traveling on the Paris Metro with her younger sister and cousin, her purse is stolen while boarding a connecting train. She is left without directions, phone, or wallet. No one is around to help. Will she avoid a panic attack? Where will she find help? Can she make her way? Will her sister and cousin manage on their own? This wasn’t the vacation she expected. ★★★★★ One story, written as two books, told from each sister’s perspective. In the first book, read the story from Anna Dahlia’s viewpoint. Continue with the second book to increase comprehension, add extra details, and story variations with the story seen from her sister Zoe’s point of view. Reading a book twice can dramatically increase reader comprehension. However, encouraging readers to read a story twice can be tough. Providing the same story from another character’s point of view, bringing a change in perspective, and some alternate storylines will excite readers to take a deeper dive into what they have just read.
