Book Synopsis The Scattering of Light and Other Electromagnetic Radiation by : Milton Kerker
Download or read book The Scattering of Light and Other Electromagnetic Radiation written by Milton Kerker and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-03 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Scattering of Light and other Electromagnetic Radiation covers the theory of electromagnetic scattering and its practical applications to light scattering. This book is divided into 10 chapters that particularly present examples of practical applications to light scattering from colloidal and macromolecular systems. The opening chapters survey the physical concept of electromagnetic waves and optics. The subsequent chapters deal with the theory of scattering by spheres and infinitely long cylinders. These topics are followed by discussions on the application of light scattering to the determination of the size distribution of colloidal particles. The last chapters are devoted to the Rayleigh-Debye scattering and the scattering by liquids, as well as the concept of anisotropy. These chapters also describe the effect upon light scattering of partial orientation of anisotropic particles in electrical and magnetic fields and in viscous flow. This book is of value to physical chemists and physical chemistry researchers, teachers, and students.

Download or read book Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties written by Eric F. Lype and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 773 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties covers the proceedings of the 1962 Second Symposium by the same title, held at Purdue University and the Thermophysical Properties Research Center. This symposium brings together theoretical and experimental research works on the thermodynamic and transport properties of gases, liquids, and solids. This text is organized into nine parts encompassing 68 chapters that cover topics from thixotropy to molecular orbital calculations. The first three parts review papers on theoretical, experimental, and computational studies of the various aspects of thermodynamic properties. These parts discuss the principles of phase equilibria, throttling, volume heat capacity, steam, volumetric behavior, enthalpy, and density. The subsequent part highlights the theoretical evaluations of transport properties, such as viscosity, diffusion, and conductivity, as well as the transport processes. These topics are followed by surveys of the theories in intermolecular forces and their applications. Other parts consider the measurement of thermal conductivity, viscosity, and radiation. The final parts examine the properties of ionized gases and non-Newtonian fluids. This book will prove useful to mechanical and chemical engineers.
Book Synopsis Acoustical Holography by : Glen Wade
Download or read book Acoustical Holography written by Glen Wade and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The latest progress in acoustical holography and related research areas, generally involving imaging by means of acoustic waves, was discussed and treated in depth at the Fourth International Symposium on Acoustical Holography, held in Santa Barbara, California on April 10-12, 1972. This volume contains the proceedings of that symposium. As the papers presented here indicate, a num ber of startling advances have been realized in the state-of-the-art since publication of Volume 3 of Acoustical Holography. Progress has been partic ularly impressive in the field of acoustical imag ing. The Fourth International Symposium represents something of alandmark conference in this respect. The scope of this volume is substantially broad er than the term "acoustical holography' usually implies and encompasses the whole area of visualiza tion, detection, and recording of sound fields whether with long wavelengths, microwaves, or with extrememly short sound wavelengths. The 37 sympo sium papers appear here each as aseparate chapter. In general, the work reported deals mainly with ex perimental and theoretical developments in the a bove areas. This work has significant practical potential use in terms of seismic sensing, under water imaging, non-destructive testing, real-time acoustic microscopy, and medical diagnosis.

Download or read book Encyclopaedia of Mathematics written by Michiel Hazewinkel and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF MATHEMATICS aims to be a reference work for all parts of mathematics. It is a translation with updates and editorial comments of the Soviet Mathematical En cyclopaedia published by 'Soviet Encyclopaedia Publishing House' in five volumes in 1977 - 1985. The annotated translation consists of ten volumes including a special index volume. There are three kinds of articles in this ENCYCLOPAEDIA. First of all there are survey-type articles dealing with the various main directions in mathematics (where a rather fine subdivision has been used). The main requirement for these articles has been that they should give a reasonably complete up-to-date account of the current state of affairs in these areas and that they should be maximally accessible. On the whole, these articles should be understandable to mathe matics students in their first specialization years, to graduates from other mathematical areas and, depending on the specific subject, to specialists in other domains of science, engineers and teachers of mathematics. These articles treat their material at a fairly general level and aim to give an idea of the kind of problems, techniques and concepts involved in the area in question. They also contain background and motivation rather than precise statements of precise theorems with detailed definitions and technical details on how to carry out proofs and constructions. The second kind of article, of medium length, contains more detailed concrete problems, results and techniques.
