Book Synopsis Energy Methods for Free Boundary Problems by : S.N. Antontsev
Download or read book Energy Methods for Free Boundary Problems written by S.N. Antontsev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the past several decades, the study of free boundary problems has been a very active subject of research occurring in a variety of applied sciences. What these problems have in common is their formulation in terms of suitably posed initial and boundary value problems for nonlinear partial differential equations. Such problems arise, for example, in the mathematical treatment of the processes of heat conduction, filtration through porous media, flows of non-Newtonian fluids, boundary layers, chemical reactions, semiconductors, and so on. The growing interest in these problems is reflected by the series of meetings held under the title "Free Boundary Problems: Theory and Applications" (Ox ford 1974, Pavia 1979, Durham 1978, Montecatini 1981, Maubuisson 1984, Irsee 1987, Montreal 1990, Toledo 1993, Zakopane 1995, Crete 1997, Chiba 1999). From the proceedings of these meetings, we can learn about the different kinds of mathematical areas that fall within the scope of free boundary problems. It is worth mentioning that the European Science Foundation supported a vast research project on free boundary problems from 1993 until 1999. The recent creation of the specialized journal Interfaces and Free Boundaries: Modeling, Analysis and Computation gives us an idea of the vitality of the subject and its present state of development. This book is a result of collaboration among the authors over the last 15 years.

Book Synopsis Nonlinear Waves in Solids by : A. Jeffrey
Download or read book Nonlinear Waves in Solids written by A. Jeffrey and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Travelling wave processes and wave motion are of great importance in many areas of mechanics, and nonlinearity also plays a decisive role there. The basic mathematical models in this area involve nonlinear partial differential equations, and predictability of behaviour of wave phenomena is of great importance. Beside fluid dynamics and gas dynamics, which have long been the traditional nonlinear scienes, solid mechanics is now taking an ever increasing account of nonlinear effects. Apart from plasticity and fracture mechanics, nonlinear elastic waves have been shown to be of great importance in many areas, such as the study of impact, nondestructive testing and seismology. These lectures offer a thorough account of the fundamental theory of nonlinear deformation waves, and in the process offer an up to date account of the current state of research in the theory and practice of nonlinear waves in solids.
Book Synopsis Nelinejnye Nelokal'nye Uravneniâ V Teorii Voln by : Pavel Ivanovich Naumkin
Download or read book Nelinejnye Nelokal'nye Uravneniâ V Teorii Voln written by Pavel Ivanovich Naumkin and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first to concentrate on the theory of nonlinear nonlocal equations. The authors solve a number of problems concerning the asymptotic behavior of solutions of nonlinear evolution equations, the blow-up of solutions, and the global in time existence of solutions. In addition, a new classification of nonlinear nonlocal equations is introduced. A large class of these equations is treated by a single method, the main features of which are apriori estimates in different integral norms and use of the Fourier transform. This book will interest specialists in partial differential equations, as well as physicists and engineers.

Download or read book Innovative Algorithms and Analysis written by Laurent Gosse and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-26 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume gathers contributions reflecting topics presented during an INDAM workshop held in Rome in May 2016. The event brought together many prominent researchers in both Mathematical Analysis and Numerical Computing, the goal being to promote interdisciplinary collaborations. Accordingly, the following thematic areas were developed: 1. Lagrangian discretizations and wavefront tracking for synchronization models; 2. Astrophysics computations and post-Newtonian approximations; 3. Hyperbolic balance laws and corrugated isometric embeddings; 4. “Caseology” techniques for kinetic equations; 5. Tentative computations of compressible non-standard solutions; 6. Entropy dissipation, convergence rates and inverse design issues. Most of the articles are presented in a self-contained manner; some highlight new achievements, while others offer snapshots of the “state of the art” in certain fields. The book offers a unique resource, both for young researchers looking to quickly enter a given area of application, and for more experienced ones seeking comprehensive overviews and extensive bibliographic references.
