Today, entire systems including processors, memories, sensors and analogue circuitry are all integrated into one single chip (hence "System-on-Chip" or SoC). The aim of this textbook is to expose aspiring and practising SoC designers to the fundamentals and latest developments in SoC design and technologies using examples of Arm(R) Cortex(R)-A technology and related IP blocks and interfaces. The entire SoC design process is discussed in detail, from memory and interconnects through to validation, fabrication and production. A particular highlight of this textbook is the focus on energy efficient SoC design, and the extensive supplementary materials which include a SystemC model of a Zynq chip. This textbook is aimed at final year undergraduate students, master students or engineers in the field looking to update their knowledge. It is assumed that readers will have a pre-existing understanding of RTL, Assembly Language and Operating Systems. For those readers looking for a entry-level introduction to SoC design, we recommend our Fundamentals of System-on-Chip Design on Arm Cortex-M Microcontrollers textbook.

He discusses the on-chip bus protocol specifications (AMBA, AHB, and APB), used by Arm processors and a wide range of on-chip digital components such as memory interfaces, peripherals, and debug components. Software development and advanced design considerations are also covered. The journey concludes with 'Putting the system together', a designer's eye view of a simple microcontroller-like design based on the Cortex-M3 processor (DesignStart) that uses the components that you will have learned to create.
Book Synopsis System on Chip (SoC) Security Architecture for Isolated Domains Against Threats by : Siam Haque
Download or read book System on Chip (SoC) Security Architecture for Isolated Domains Against Threats written by Siam Haque and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Heterogeneous computing systems have shown significant progress in the acceleration of domain specific computing. With the advent of System-On-Chips (SoC) - marrying a dedicated processor to the traditional Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) we see significant performance gains, allowing a wide array of applications to be realized. However, with the introduction of different computing domains new attack surfaces are introduce. To ensure integrity of data and reliability of transactions between the individual domains we must first understand the attack surfaces and how they are exploited [4]. In this graduate project we demonstrate an implementation of a secure system based off of zynq ultrascale+ (ZU+) platform - utilizing both the consumer off the shelf (COTS) features provided by the platform as well as custom hardware security approach to further ensure reliability of our secure solution. The graduate project paper is broken down as follows: • Definition of a secure system; • Architecture of SoCs; • Related work; • Known vulnerabilities of SoCs and it's components, specifically SoCs which use ARM TrustZone to realize some of their security and safety-critical functions; and techniques on how to mitigate away from these vulnerabilities; • An implementation of a secure system on the Trenz TE0802 (zu+ based platform); • The results and observations from attacking the implemented secure system; • Conclusion; and finally, • Future work

Book Synopsis Computer System Design by : Michael J. Flynn
Download or read book Computer System Design written by Michael J. Flynn and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-08-08 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The next generation of computer system designers will be less concerned about details of processors and memories, and more concerned about the elements of a system tailored to particular applications. These designers will have a fundamental knowledge of processors and other elements in the system, but the success of their design will depend on the skills in making system-level tradeoffs that optimize the cost, performance and other attributes to meet application requirements. This book provides a new treatment of computer system design, particularly for System-on-Chip (SOC), which addresses the issues mentioned above. It begins with a global introduction, from the high-level view to the lowest common denominator (the chip itself), then moves on to the three main building blocks of an SOC (processor, memory, and interconnect). Next is an overview of what makes SOC unique (its customization ability and the applications that drive it). The final chapter presents future challenges for system design and SOC possibilities.
