Download or read book Interactive Distributed Multimedia Systems written by Doug Shepherd and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-30 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th We are very happy to present the proceedings of the 8 International Workshop on Interactive Distributed Multimedia Systems IDMS 2001, in co-operation with ACM SIGCOMM and SIGMM. These proceedings contain the technical programme for IDMS 2001, held September 4 7, 2001 in Lancaster, UK. For the technical programme this year we received 48 research papers from both a- demic and industrial institutions all around the world. After the review process, 15 were accepted as full papers for publication, and a further 8 as short positional papers, intended to provoke debate. The technical programme was complimented by three invited papers: QoS for Multimedia What’s Going to Make It Pay? by Derek McAuley, E nabling the Internet to Provide Multimedia Services by Markus H- mann, and MPEG-21 Standard: Why an Open Multimedia Framework? by Fernando Pereira. The organisers are very grateful for the help they received to make IDMS 2001 a successful event. In particular, we would like to thank the PC for their first class - views of papers, particularly considering the tight reviewing deadlines this year. Also, we would like to acknowledge the support from Agilent, BTexact Technologies, Hewlett Packard, Microsoft Research, Orange, and Sony Electronics without whom IDMS 2001 would not have been such a memorable event. We hope that readers will find these proceedings helpful in their future research, and that IDMS will continue to be an active forum for the discussion of distributed mul- media research for years to come.

Book Synopsis Scalable Continuous Media Streaming Systems by : Jack Lee
Download or read book Scalable Continuous Media Streaming Systems written by Jack Lee and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuous media streaming systems will shape the future of information infrastructure. The challenge is to design systems and networks capable of supporting millions of concurrent users. Key to this is the integration of fault-tolerant mechanisms to prevent individual component failures from disrupting systems operations. These are just some of the hurdles that need to be overcome before large-scale continuous media services such as video-on-demand can be deployed with maximum efficiency. The author places the subject in context, drawing together findings from the past decade of research whilst examining the technology’s present status and its future potential. The approach adopted is comprehensive, covering topics – notably the scalability and fault-tolerance issues - that previously have not been treated in depth. Provides an accessible introduction to the technology, presenting the basic principles for media streaming system design, focusing on the need for the correct and timely delivery of data. Explores the use of parallel server architectures to tackle the two key challenges of scalability and fault-tolerance. Investigates the use of network multicast streaming algorithms to further increase the scalability of very-large-scale media streaming systems. Illustrates all findings using real-world examples and case studies gleaned from cutting-edge worldwide research. Combining theory and practice, this book will appeal to industry specialists working in content distribution in general and continuous media streaming in particular. The introductory materials and basic building blocks complemented by amply illustrated, more advanced coverage provide essential reading for senior undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers in these fields.

Book Synopsis Information Computing and Applications, Part II by : Rongbo Zhu
Download or read book Information Computing and Applications, Part II written by Rongbo Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-27 with total page 556 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Inf- mation Computing and Applications (ICICA 2010), which was held in Tangshan, China, October 15-18, 2010. As future-generation information technology, information computing and applications become specialized, information computing and applications - cluding hardware, software, communications and networks are growing with ever-increasing scale and heterogeneity and becoming overly complex. The c- plexity is getting more critical along with the growing applications. To cope with the growing and computing complexity, information computing and applications focus on intelligent, selfmanageable, scalable computing systems and applications to the maximum extent possible without human intervention or guidance. With the rapid development of information science and technology, infor- tion computing has become the third approach of science research. Information computing and applications is the ?eld of study concerned with constructing - telligent computing, mathematical models, numerical solution techniques and using computers to analyze and solve natural scienti?c, social scienti?c and engineering problems. In practical use, it is typically the application of c- puter simulation, intelligent computing, internet computing, pervasive comp- ing, scalable computing, trusted computing, autonomy-oriented computing, evolutionary computing, mobile computing, computational statistics, engine- ing computing, multimedia networking and computing, applications and other forms of computation problems in various scienti?c disciplines and engine- ing. Information computing and applications is an important underpinning for techniques used in information and computational science and there are many unresolved problems that address worth studying.
Download or read book IPTV Security written by David H. Ramirez and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-02-28 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Television was one of the inventions that shaped the way society and culture evolved over the second half of the twentieth century. It had the powerful effect of shrinking the world which creating a unified view of how things were. There continues to be an evolution of television and a migration towards a fully interactive and ubiquitous IPTV. IPTV Security describes the science and history behind TV as well as detailed descriptions of all the architectural components that comprise an IPTV environment. It covers subjects logically from the Head End passing through the aggregation network and concluding with the Home End environment. The countermeasures required to ensure the safe operation of the IPTV environment are also examined, including Digital Rights Management technologies, network level security and application level security. IPTV Security defines the security model for an IPTV environment, ensuring that all critical elements are covered and a layered approach to security is implemented. One of the only books available on IPTV Security Provides a comprehensive view of IPTV components along with the associated threats and required countermeasures Detailed descriptions allow readers to understand the technology even if new to the field A complete reference guide to the security aspects of IPTV. This book is ideal for anyone responsible for IPTV security such as security officers and auditors working with internet services and telecommunications providers, phone and cable companies, content owners and security consultants and architects. It will also be of interest to networking and security engineers, software developers, network operators and university lectures and students involved in media, IT and security.
