Book Synopsis Fabrics in Asphalt Overlays and Pavement Maintenance by : Richard D. Barksdale
Download or read book Fabrics in Asphalt Overlays and Pavement Maintenance written by Richard D. Barksdale and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, maintenance engineers, and others interested in methods and procedures for reducing reflection cracking of asphalt overlays. Information is provided on the use of paving fabrics and membranes in pavement rehabilitation. Reflection cracking of pavement overlays results in decreased pavement performance with respect to ride quality, structural support, skid resistance, and safety. The use of fabrics is one of the alternatives that are available to reduce or delay reflection cracking. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the experiences of agencies in the use of fabrics and membranes for reduction of reflection cracking.

Soil reinforcement is a very useful technique to construct several cost-effective soil structures in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. The most commonly used reinforcement materials are galvanised steel strips, geosynthetics in the form of woven geotextiles, geogrids and geocomposites, and fibres from natural and waste products. In recent years, there have been advances in the area of soil reinforcement, especially in the utilization of the technique in field projects. The researchers have also been working to understand the behaviour of reinforced soil considering the field challenges of reinforced soil structures. The volume is based on the best contributions to the 2nd GeoMEast International Congress and Exhibition on Sustainable Civil Infrastructures, Egypt 2018 – The official international congress of the Soil-Structure Interaction Group in Egypt (SSIGE).

Book Synopsis Polymeric Synthetic Fabrics to Improve Stability of Ground Structure in Civil Engineering Circumstance by : Han-Yong Jeon
Download or read book Polymeric Synthetic Fabrics to Improve Stability of Ground Structure in Civil Engineering Circumstance written by Han-Yong Jeon and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymeric synthetic fabrics are continuous sheets of woven, nonwoven, knitted, or stitch-bonded fibers and yarns. The sheets are flexible and permeable and generally have the appearance of a fabric. Among polymeric synthetic fabrics, geosynthetics including geotextiles have special functions of separation, filtration, drainage, reinforcement, and erosion control in civil engineering applications. Also, geosynthetics such as geotextiles and geogrids are used in asphalt pavement reinforcement. An important function of these geotextiles is as cushion layers to prevent puncture of geomembranes (by reducing point contact stresses) from stones in the adjacent soil, waste, or drainage aggregate. Geotextiles, however, are made from a combination of two or more polymeric synthetic fabrics. In this chapter, geotextiles as polymeric synthetic fabrics are introduced not only for improvement but also maintaining stability of ground structure in civil engineering circumstance with their related technologies.
Book Synopsis Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering by : Sanjay Kumar Shukla
Download or read book Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering written by Sanjay Kumar Shukla and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-09-12 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development of polymeric materials in the form of geosynthetics has brought major changes to the area of Civil Engineering. Increasing interest in these materials and their use has resulted in significant advances in their practical applications in the last few decades. Following this progress, geosynthetics have become a common and favoured construction component in present-day geotechnical engineering. A wide range of compositions is now used, with properties tailored to conditions required for application. Fundamentals of Geosynthetic Engineering provides an overview of the basic concepts of this fascinating and innovative subject area in a logical and illustrative way. This book guides the reader from basic description, manufacturing and material properties of the geosynthetics to their selection process and the major applications. It treats practical analysis and design concepts and provides guidelines for application. In addition, the quality control, field performance and monitoring of applied geosynthetics are discussed, and some aspects of costs analysis are described. The text is supported by examples, multiple choice and numerical questions with answers provided. One separate chapter with case studies is included in the book. In addition, the latest common test standards and codes of practice are introduced in a few sections with extensive references. This textbook will serve courses in geosynthetics or earth reinforcement for graduate students in Geotechnical, Transportation, Hydraulic or Environmental Engineering. It may also be used as part of the undergraduate Geotechnical Engineering course for final year undergraduate students in Civil Engineering. The structure of this text also facilitates self-study by civil engineers, manufacturers and installers who wish to become familiar with the subject matter.
