In 2005, 100 million tons of polyolefins were produced - the biggest part was catalyzed by metallorganic compounds. The Hamburg Macromolecular Symposium 2005 with the title "Olefin Polymerization" involved topics such as new catalysts and cocatalysts, kinetics, mechanism and polymer reaction engineering, synthesis of special polymers, and characterization of polyolefins. The conference combined scientists from different disciplines to discuss latest research results of polymers and to offer each other the possibility of cooperation. This is reflected in this volume, which contains invited lectures and selected posters presented at the symposium.
Book Synopsis Surface Organometallic Chemistry: Molecular Approaches to Surface Catalysis by : Jean-Marie Basset
Download or read book Surface Organometallic Chemistry: Molecular Approaches to Surface Catalysis written by Jean-Marie Basset and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface organometallic chemistry is a new field bringing together researchers from organometallic, inorganic, and surface chemistry and catalysis. Topics ranging from reaction mechanisms to catalyst preparation are considered from a molecular basis, according to which the "active site" on a catalyst surface has a supra-molecular character. This. the first book on the subject, is the outcome of a NATO Workshop held in Le Rouret. France, in May. 1986. It is our hope that the following chapters and the concluding summary of recommendations for research may help to provide a definition of surface organometallic chemistry. Besides catalysis. the central theme of the Workshop, four main topics are considered: 1) Reactions of organometallics with surfaces of metal oxides, metals. and zeolites; 2) Molecular models of surfaces, metal oxides, and metals; 3) Molecular approaches to the mechanisms of surface reactions; 4) Synthesis and modification of zeolites and related microporous solids. Most surface organometallic chemistry has been carried out on amorphous high-surf ace-area metal oxides such as silica. alumina. magnesia, and titania. The first chapter. contributed by KNOZINGER. gives a short summary of the structure and reactivity of metal oxide surfaces. Most of our understanding of these surfaces is based on acid base and redox chemistry; this chemistry has developed from X-ray and spectroscopic data, and much has been inferred from the structures and reactivities of adsorbed organic probe molecules. There are major opportunities for extending this understanding by use of well-defined (single crystal) oxide surfaces and organometallic probe molecules.

Book Synopsis Organic Synthesis Using Transition Metals by : Roderick Bates
Download or read book Organic Synthesis Using Transition Metals written by Roderick Bates and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transition metals open up new opportunities for synthesis, because their means of bonding and their reaction mechanisms differ from those of the elements of the s and p blocks. In the last two decades the subject has mushroomed - established reactions are seeing both technical improvements and increasing numbers of applications, and new reactions are being developed. The practicality of the subject is demonstrated by the large number of publications coming from the process development laboratories of pharmaceutical companies, and its importance is underlined by the fact that three Nobel prizes have been awarded for discoveries in this field in the 21st Century already. Organic Synthesis Using Transition Metals, 2nd Edition considers the ways in which transition metals, as catalysts and reagents, can be used in organic synthesis, both for pharmaceutical compounds and for natural products. It concentrates on the bond-forming reactions that set transition metal chemistry apart from "classical" organic chemistry. Each chapter is extensively referenced and provides a convenient point of entry to the research literature. Topics covered include: introduction to transition metals in organic synthesis coupling reactions C-H activation carbonylative coupling reactions alkene and alkyne insertion reactions electrophilic alkene and alkyne complexes reactions of alkyne complexes carbene complexes h3- or p-allyl -allyl complexes diene, dienyl and arene complexes cycloaddition and cycloisomerisation reactions For this second edition the text has been extensively revised and expanded to reflect the significant improvements and advances in the field since the first edition, as well as the large number of new transition metal-catalysed processes that have come to prominence in the last 10 years – for example the extraordinary progress in coupling reactions using “designer” ligands, catalysis using gold complexes, new opportunities arising from metathesis chemistry, and C-H activation – without neglecting the well established chemistry of metals such as palladium. Organic Synthesis Using Transition Metals, 2nd Edition will find a place on the bookshelves of advanced undergraduates and postgraduates working in organic synthesis, catalysis, medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. It is also useful for practising researchers who want to refresh and enhance their knowledge of the field.

Book Synopsis Synthesis of Molybdenum and Tungsten Oxo and Imido Alkylidene NHC Complexes and Their Use in Stereoselective Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization by : Mathis Benedikter
Download or read book Synthesis of Molybdenum and Tungsten Oxo and Imido Alkylidene NHC Complexes and Their Use in Stereoselective Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization written by Mathis Benedikter and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-04-08 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis by : Karl Kirchner
Download or read book Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis written by Karl Kirchner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the beginning of chemistry as an exact (natural) science - almost 200 years ago - there was a more or less distinct differentiation between its various branches such as organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, or biochemistry. With the increasing insight into the connections and governing laws it soon became obvious, however, that such a clear separation could be regarded as more or less obsolete; within almost any field of chemical research one has to deal with most of the branches mentioned. Especially organic and inorganic chemistry are significant examples for this statement, overlapping considerably within the important field of organome tallic chemistry. This regime of chemistry started its advance with the discovery of dimethylzinc 150 years ago, had a highlight with the introduction of Grignard reagents around 1900, developed further with the start of lithium organyls in 1925 and literally exploded after the discovery of the first transition metal cyclopenta dienyl complex ferrocene half a century ago. The chronological sequence of the important steps, i. e. 1850 (Zn) - 1900 (Mg) - 1925 (Li) - 1950 (Fe), seems rather remarkable. The increasing group of metallocenes is not only of high theoretical and, due to the potential chirality of its members, stereochemical interest, but offers also a wide variety of extremely useful catalysts, especially for stereoselective reactions. The Austrian Chemical Society took this development into account by organizing the Twelfth International Conference on Organometallic Chemistry held in Vienna in 1985.

Book Synopsis Synthesis of Low-coordinate Transition Metal Bis(alkoxide) Complexes and Their Reactivity Toward Small Molecules by : Maryam Yousif
Download or read book Synthesis of Low-coordinate Transition Metal Bis(alkoxide) Complexes and Their Reactivity Toward Small Molecules written by Maryam Yousif and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation focused on the synthesis of new transition metal complexes in bis(alkoxide) ligand environments and the investigation of their reactivity in nitrene-group transfer catalysis and small molecule activation. Treatment of Cr(N(SiMe3)2)2(THF)2 with two equivalents of HOR (OR = OCtBu2Ph) led to the formation of the chromium(II) alkoxide dimer, Cr2(OR)4. Upon the reaction with bulky aryl and alkyl azides, Cr2(OR)4 led to the stable Cr(IV) mono(imido) complexes, Cr(OR)2(NR), featuring trigonal planar metal centers. In contrast, less bulky aryl azides led to the formation of chromium (VI) bis(imido) complexes Cr(OR)2(NR)2, independent of the amount of azide used. Chromium(IV) mono(imido) species Cr(OR)2(NR) is capable of nitrene transfer to isocyanides to form asymmetric carbodiimides (RNCNR'). When excess isocyanide is added to Cr(OR)2(NR), a new chromium(II) complex, Cr(OR)2(CNR2)4, was identified by X-ray crystallography. This tetrakis(isocyanide) chromium(II) complex is also capable of forming carbodiimide when azide is introduced. Efficient catalytic formation of carbodiimides was obtained using 2.5 mol% of Cr2(OR)4 for the mixtures of bulky organoazides and isocyanides; no catalytic reactivity was observed for the non-bulky aryl azides. DFT calculations suggest that trigonal CrIV(OR)2(NR) intermediate is the key species in the reaction mechanism as, due to it coordinative unsaturation, it allows isocyanide binding to the metal, which enables subsequent C-N bond formation. A bulkier alkoxide ligand HOR' (R = CtBu2(3,5-Ph2Ph)) was synthesized by lithium halogen exchange reaction. The protonolysis of the metal complexes, M(N(SiMe3)2(THF)x, with HOR' enabled an easy isolation of new bis(alkoxide) precursors M(OR')2(THF)2 (where M = Cr, Co, Fe) featuring cis-divacant octahedral geometry. The chemistry of the iron bis(alkoxide) compound Fe(OR')2(THF)2 with the variety of aryl azides was investigated.
