This book was released on 2013 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classic Magnus' Green Salt and several tetracyanoplatinates represent one-dimensional coordination polymers. They have been examined previously for their unique optical properties and electrical conductivity. Mixed valence tetracyanoplatinates have an appearance and conductivity similar to a metal. Both of these traits are attributed to the close distance between platinum centers in the extended one dimensional structures of these complexes. The aim of this research was to synthesize and characterize a series of new 1D oximes-based platinum complexes with a primary interest in their anisotropic properties. I selected a group of N,O mixed donor chelating ligands with various steric and electronic properties. Therefore, complexes formed are tunable for a particular application as 1D solids. Ten compounds of PtL2 compositions were prepared and used in this study. A visual indication of the formation of the 1D solids with close metallophilic Pt···Pt interactions is in the dark green, blue or purple color of the complexes: Thus, complexes show a charge-transfer band 600-900 nm in the UV-visible spectra. Synthesized Pt-complexes were studied using IR, UV-visible spectroscopy and X-ray analysis. Solutions studies also included dynamic light scattering. Isotopic labeling with 15N of some of the ligands allowed better understanding of their IR and NMR spectra. Four out of ten studied Pt-complexes demonstrated presence of metallophilic Pt···Pt interactions.

This book was released on 2009 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Synthetic, structural, spectroscopic, and redox studies of platinum(II) and palladium(II) compounds with mer-coordinating ligands have been undertaken in an effort to better understand the role of the metal and the ligands in controlling d^6/d^8 electron-transfer reactions. A series of Pd(pip2NCN)X (pip2NCNH=1,3-bis(piperdylmethyl)benzene) and [Pd(pip2NNN)X]X (X=Cl, Br, I) (pip2NNN=2,6- bis(piperdyl-methyl)pyridine) complexes are reported. Electronic spectra are consistent with stabilization of ligand-to-metal-charge-transfer states as the ancillary ligand is varied along the ClBr

This book was released on 2010 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Platinum(II) biphenyl diimine complexes have been synthesized and characterized. Single crystal X-ray structures from seven complexes show two types of configurations about the platinum coordination sphere in the solid state: X and B (butterfly). The two configurations give different circular dichroism spectra (CD) based on their C2 or Cs symmetry. The metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) bands which occur at ~440 nm are transitions from d orbitals on the platinum metal center to * orbitals of the diimine ligands. This agrees with the time dependant density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations where the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals (LUMO) are located on diimine ligands. Emission spectra of the complexes can be divided into three groups according to different emission excited states: group I, ligand centered transitions (LC); group II, ligand field transitions (LF) and group III, metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT). Emission profiles from the groups are different from one another: LC transitions have vibronic structures; LF transitions have sharp peaks without vibronic structure and MLCT transitions have a broad peak without vibronic structure. Linear free energy correlations were found between emission maxims, reduction potentials and emission lifetimes with Hammett sp values. The diimine with electron donating substituents have the higher energy emission maxima and the longer emission life time. The diimine with electron withdrawing substituents has the lower energy emission maxima and the shorter emission life time.

This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six iminopyridine ligands were prepared from the condensation of 6-methyl-2-pyridinecarboxyaldehyde and the corresponding primary amines containing bulky cycloalkyl groups. Addition of these ligands to [PtCl2(coe)]2 (coe=cis-cyclooctene) gave the desired platinum(II) coordination complexes in moderate to high yields. All compounds were fully characterized using FT-IR and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy. Solid compounds were subjected to melting point analysis. Elemental analysis (EA) was performed on three of the platinum(II) complexes. Future work will involve completing elemental analysis studies and performing biological testing. X-ray diffraction studies must be performed to support the existing characterization data.
