Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered: "Is there a Roadmap to Success?" That's the question I started with. Since I know there isn't a formula for success, is there a well worn path that I can take to go from where I'm at to 10x, 100x, 1,000x more than I expected? Synaptic Alchemy is all about discovering that roadmap to success. There are patterns of success. There are ways that people who have been successful think. There is a mindset of success. That is what Synaptic Alchemy explores. A mindset that is both new and ancient at the same time. It is a mindset that can be used by executives, entrepreneurs, coaches, managers, and product developers alike. After starting and selling a successful software company, learning everything possible from being in the trenches then synthesizing all the lessons learned, the author started to identify patterns for success. The patterns that has been in place for millennia and were the basis of the oldest inventors around: the Alchemists.Taking the ancient foundations of chemistry, which started with Alchemy, and combining them with modern day innovation theory, Cardinale creates a framework that organizations, executives, entrepreneurs and thought leaders can use to walk a well understood path towards success. A path that has been used to turn ideas into gold.

Book excerpt: Attention, self-consciousness, insight, wisdom, emotional maturity: how Zen teachings can illuminate the way our brains function and vice-versa. When neurology researcher James Austin began Zen training, he found that his medical education was inadequate. During the past three decades, he has been at the cutting edge of both Zen and neuroscience, constantly discovering new examples of how these two large fields each illuminate the other. Now, in Selfless Insight, Austin arrives at a fresh synthesis, one that invokes the latest brain research to explain the basis for meditative states and clarifies what Zen awakening implies for our understanding of consciousness. Austin, author of the widely read Zen and the Brain, reminds us why Zen meditation is not only mindfully attentive but evolves to become increasingly selfless and intuitive. Meditators are gradually learning how to replace over-emotionality with calm, clear objective comprehension. In this new book, Austin discusses how meditation trains our attention, reprogramming it toward subtle forms of awareness that are more openly mindful. He explains how our maladaptive notions of self are rooted in interactive brain functions. And he describes how, after the extraordinary, deep states of kensho-satori strike off the roots of the self, a flash of transforming insight-wisdom leads toward ways of living more harmoniously and selflessly. Selfless Insight is the capstone to Austin's journey both as a creative neuroscientist and as a Zen practitioner. His quest has spanned an era of unprecedented progress in brain research and has helped define the exciting new field of contemplative neuroscience.

Book excerpt: Early successes in programming digital computers to exhibit simple forms of intelligent behavior, coupled with the belief that intelligent activities differ only in their degree of complexity, have led to the conviction that the information processing underlying any cognitive performance can be formulated in a program and thus simulated on a digital computer. Attempts to simulate cognitive processes on computers have, however, run into greater difficulties than anticipated. An examination of these difficulties reveals that the attempt to analyze intelligent behavior in digital computer language systematically excludes three fundamental human forms of information processing (fringe consciousness, essence/accident discrimination, and ambiguity tolerance). Moreover, there are four distinct types of intelligent activity, only two of which do not presuppose these human forms of information processing and can therefore be programmed. Significant developments in artificial intelligence in the remaining two areas must await computers of an entirely different sort, of which the only existing prototype is the little-understood human brain. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the dawn of the industrial age, we have unleashed a bewildering number of potentially harmful chemicals. But out of this vast array, how do we identify the actual threats? What does it take to prove that a certain chemical causes cancer? How do we translate academic knowledge of the toxic effects of particular substances into understanding real-world health consequences? The science that answers these questions is toxicology. In The Alchemy of Disease, John Whysner offers an accessible and compelling history of toxicology and its key findings. He details the experiments and discoveries that revealed the causal connections between chemical exposures and diseases. Balancing clear accounts of groundbreaking science with human drama and public-policy relevance, Whysner describes key moments in the development of toxicology and their thorny social and political implications. The book features discussions of toxicological problems past and present, including DDT, cigarettes and other carcinogens, lead poisoning, fossil fuels, chemical warfare, pharmaceuticals—including opioids—and the efficacy of animal testing. Offering valuable insight into the science and politics of crucial public-health concerns, The Alchemy of Disease shows that toxicology’s task—pinpointing the chemical cause of an illness—is as compelling as any detective story.

Book excerpt: It has been a long tradition among the Hebrews to use the pesher (dream interpretation code) which had encoded messages regarding two levels of information written within a story. One level was written as an allegory that told a message about morality. The other level was written about esoteric instruction and political events which mirrored inner growth. Each of the 22 chapters are inspired by the 22 Hebrew alphabet letters. In this book The Alchemy of Christ: The Book of Revelation I give a commentary on the Book of Revelations Apocalypse means revealing, and it is the revealing of the Christ within. The final battle of Armageddon takes place within us. This is an inner war that will transform us and bring us back to recovery to the state of Christ Consciousness. The political struggles within the world mirror the transformation of the individual. Just as we recover, the earth as a whole will recover as well leading to an enlightened Civilization.

Book excerpt: Renowned channeler Paul Selig shares the wisdom of The Guides "The gift of the times you sit in, humanity at a crossroads, is the gift of the unknown, the unseen, the unprepared for. “How can I prepare for a future, when all I have trusted and believed in seems to be falling away?”...You say yes to the uncertain moment. You agree that the path before you will be lit as you walk it, and not a moment before. " In Alchemy: A Channeled Text, The Guides offer us a way to engage the transformational process of moving beyond a limited interpretation of the self and into a place of true manifestation. As humanity stands at a crossroads, the voices of The Guides offer insight and a path forward. Paul Selig, the author of Beyond the Known: Realization, is one of the foremost spiritual channels in the world. Alchemy is composed of the pure, unedited words of The Guides as they have been channeled through Paul. Their message is poignant and beautifully written, humming with wisdom and insight for all who are ready and willing to receive their words.

Book excerpt: Alchemical practices have been reborn in our contemporary world under the rubric of Jungianism, transpersonal psychology, or depth psychology. But in Alchemical Psychology, Thom F. Cavalli, Ph.D., takes us directly to the source—and on a wonderful adventure into the true nature of our hearts and minds. In a book that sparkles with verve, life, and practicality, Dr. Cavalli explains how alchemy was one of humankind’s earliest efforts to transform the nature of consciousness. What little-known or underground arts did alchemists practice in pursuit of self-transformation—and how can they enrich us today? Using the same practices that he employs with patients, Dr. Cavalli offers readers a plethora of personal exercises that, among other things, enables them to “type” themselves according to ancient alchemical identifiers of nature and personality. He then provides practices that can help free them from the grip of familiar problems and foster true personal growth. Beautifully illustrated with medieval prints from the alchemical tradition, Alchemical Psychology gives readers both a richer understanding of their own natures and of the traditions on which many of our modern therapies are based.

Book excerpt: ♥♥♥♥ Mastering Alchemy: A Journey of Cultivating Power from Within ♥♥♥♥ ✔Alchemy is the art of transmutation. We are all alchemists, but due to our constant state of deprivation, most people are operating in survival mode and we cannot create lasting peace from a constant state of distress. What we end up creating is a cycle of repeating patterns that create feelings of hopelessness and scarcity. What we really hope to achieve is the ability to create lasting joy in our lives, and that's what this journal is going to help you accomplish. We want to use our alchemical powers to transform our negative beliefs and situations into an abundant mindset of joy, health, love, peace, wealth, and prosperity. ✔There are great lessons in each adversity we encounter. We are encouraged to overcome these obstacles by discovering our hidden nature through self-realization. We do this through a series of exercises that help us reframe our thoughts and behaviors so that we can cultivate feelings of happiness from within. We magnify our power by creating heart-centered intentions and activating our energetic field by establishing a healthy coherence of mind and body. Constant congruency of these behaviors helps us build resiliency in our cognitive abilities and open up possibilities for greater manifestation by elevating our frequency. ✔Usually, we tend to respond to negative and difficult life events with low-frequency emotions such as anger. It is both natural and normal to feel distressed when these situations happen. The degree of stress will depend partly on the severity of the situation and the meaning and feelings we attach to given events. The way you think and act about aspects of your life experiences can move you from a healthy state to distress and further prolonged states of dis-ease, depression, anxiety, rage, or guilt and can become very troublesome and painful to overcome when not addressed. Because we feel the way we think, the way we act is often determined by how you feel and can have either a positive or negative influence on your emotions if we repeat the same habitual patterns of behavior. ✔The interaction between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors is at the core of our belief system. Therefore, a close examination at how we think, feel, and act can help overcome behavioral and emotional difficulties. Understanding that the way you view things is vital to your mood, and your perspective affects both how you feel and what you do or respond to events. Change the one (thoughts) and you also change the other (emotions). Once you begin to think differently, or adopt a different point of view, you will also begin to feel differently. With this journal, I hope you get to explore and discover the magic behind alchemy in order to feel inspired to harness its power to manifest abundance in all areas of your life. ★★★★★

Book excerpt: A comprehensive alchemical guide to plant extractions and their health benefits • Shows how spagyric methods “open” medicinal plants completely to release powerful healing properties • Provides a history and philosophy of spagyrics that reveal why Western medicine fails to recognize the full benefit to health offered by plants • Connects spagyrics to classical alchemical, hermetic, and ayurvedic traditions The practice of spagyrics is the application of ancient alchemical working methods to the preparation of tinctures, essences, and other products from medicinal plants. While ordinary tinctures and infusions use only a part of the great curative potential of plants, spagyric methods “open” medicinal plants completely to reveal their more powerful healing properties. Drawing on the rich imagery and symbolism of ancient source materials, Manfred M. Junius describes these methods in great detail, showing readers how to prepare plant remedies alchemically for their own use as well as imparting a knowledge of the ideological world in which alchemistic and hermetic thought flowered. Spagyrics includes the Plant Magistery of Paracelsus and the Life Elixir recipe of Andreas Libavius among its historic techniques as well as a wealth of scientific information that demonstrates the greater efficacy of alchemical methods of plant essence extraction. This classic source text preserves the nearly forgotten but highly valuable methods of this true hermetic art for preparing natural remedies.

Book excerpt: This is the ninth book in the 21 Brotherhood of Light Course series by C. C. Zain on the Hermetic Sciences, Astrology, Alchemy, Tarot, Kabbalah and the Occult. This book teaches that character is destiny and that character is thought-built, being the result of the various complex thought-cell structures that reside in the astral body or unconscious mind, and their interaction with the individual’s physical form, mental faculties and the environment. Thus an individual’s fortune and success in the various departments of life is determined by a combination of mental, biological and environmental factors. While the individual may have less control over biological factors, the environment can be manipulated to advantage, and thought-cell structures organized within the astral body on the inner plane may be modified or reconditioned. These thought cells were initially formed before birth and are mapped by the various elements in the astrological chart of birth. They continue to be modified after birth by experience, dominant trends of thinking and environmental circumstances. This book explains in detail how to recondition discordant mental elements and reveals the inner nature of poverty, failure and disease, and how to find and apply mental antidotes and absent treatments.
