This book was released on 2006-11-15 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains articles based on talks given at the Symposium on several complex variables, Park City, March 30 - April 3, 1970. The papers herein represent a broad spectrum of mathematical research (e.g. function algebras, sheaf theory, differential operators, manifolds) but are related by the fact that they are all related to some degree to the area of several complex variables.
Book Synopsis Several Complex Variables and Banach Algebras by : Herbert Alexander
Download or read book Several Complex Variables and Banach Algebras written by Herbert Alexander and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-17 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A development of some of the principal applications of function theory in several complex variables to Banach algebras. The authors do not presuppose any knowledge of several complex variables on the part of the reader, and all relevant material is developed within the text. Furthermore, the book deals with problems of uniform approximation on compact subsets of the space of n complex variables. This third edition contains new material on maximum modulus algebras and subharmonicity, the hull of a smooth curve, integral kernels, perturbations of the Stone-Weierstrass Theorem, boundaries of analytic varieties, polynomial hulls of sets over the circle, areas, and the topology of hulls. The authors have also included a new chapter commenting on history and recent developments, as well as an updated and expanded reading list.

This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past twenty years many connections have been found between the theory of analytic functions of one or more complex variables and the study of commutative Banach algebras. On the one hand, function theory has been used to answer algebraic questions such as the question of the existence of idempotents in a Banach algebra. On the other hand, concepts arising from the study of Banach algebras such as the maximal ideal space, the Silov boundary, Gleason parts, etc. have led to new questions and to new methods of proof in function theory. Roughly one third of this book isconcerned with developing some of the principal applications of function theory in several complex variables to Banach algebras. We presuppose no knowledge of severalcomplex variables on the part of the reader but develop the necessary material from scratch. The remainder of the book deals with problems of uniform approximation on compact subsets of the space of n complex variables. For n > I no complete theory exists but many important particular problems have been solved. Throughout, our aim has been to make the exposition elementary and self-contained. We have cheerfully sacrificed generality and completeness all along the way in order to make it easier to understand the main ideas.

Book excerpt: The contributions to this volume are devoted to a discussion of state-of-the-art research and treatment of problems of a wide spectrum of areas in complex analysis ranging from pure to applied and interdisciplinary mathematical research. Topics covered include: holomorphic approximation, hypercomplex analysis, special functions of complex variables, automorphic groups, zeros of the Riemann zeta function, Gaussian multiplicative chaos, non-constant frequency decompositions, minimal kernels, one-component inner functions, power moment problems, complex dynamics, biholomorphic cryptosystems, fermionic and bosonic operators. The book will appeal to graduate students and research mathematicians as well as to physicists, engineers, and scientists, whose work is related to the topics covered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This meeting has been motivated by two events: the 85th birthday of Pierre Lelong, and the end of the third year of the European network "Complex analysis and analytic geometry" from the programme Human Capital and Mobility. For the first event, Mathematicians from Poland, Sweden, United States and France, whose work is particularly related to the one ofP. Lelong have accepted to participate; for the second, the different teams of the Network sent lecturers to report on their most recent works. These teams are from Grenoble, Wuppertal, Berlin, Pisa and Paris VI; in fact, most of their results are also related to Lelong's work and, a posteriori, it is difficult to decide whether a talk is motivated by the first or by the second event. We chose only plenary lectures, usually of one hour, except a small number, given by young mathematicians, which have been shorter. A two hours problem session has been organized. The Proceedings gather papers which are exact texts of the talks, or are closely related to them. The members from the Network and five other lecturers sent us papers; the other lecturers published the content of their talks in mathematical Journals. All the presented texts have been submitted to referees independent of the organizing committee; the texts of the problems have been approved by their authors.
