Book Synopsis The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold by : A. G. Massey
Download or read book The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold written by A. G. Massey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-01-31 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Copper, Silver and Gold deals with the chemistry of copper, silver, and gold and covers topics ranging from the occurrence and metallurgy of copper to copper compounds and compounds containing copper-metal bonds, compounds of silver, and gold alloys. Hydrides and halides, cyanides and oxides, hydroxides and oxyacids, and thiocyanates and selenocyanates are also discussed. This volume is comprised of three chapters and opens with a brief history of copper, along with its occurrence and metallurgy, analysis, and compounds. The next chapter is devoted to silver and its compounds, while the last chapter describes gold, its isotopes and alloys, chemistry, and gold hydrides and halides, cyanides and oxides, hydroxides and oxyacids. Gold sulfides, selenides and tellurides, and nitrates are also considered, along with nitrides, azides, phosphides, and arsenides; and thiosulfates, selenates, selenites, thiocyanates, and selenocyanates. The final sections look at gold complexes and the organometallic and analytical chemistry of gold. This book will be a valuable source of information for inorganic chemists.
Book Synopsis Mines of Silver and Gold in the Americas by : Peter Bakewell
Download or read book Mines of Silver and Gold in the Americas written by Peter Bakewell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-13 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume focuses on Latin America, since it was mainly there that Europeans (or their colonial descendants) actually engaged in mining in the 16th-19th centuries; elsewhere they traded metals mined by others. The principal metals produced, and in prodigious quantities, were silver, in the Spanish colonies, and gold, mainly in Brazil in the 18th century. These articles analyse the volume and pattern of production and the forms of labour found in mining. Particular attention is given to the technologies of extraction and refining, notably the adoption of the mercury amalgamation process: this had a major impact, driving down silver production costs; because the mercury mines were a royal monopoly, it also handed control to the Spanish crown.

Book Synopsis Liganded silver and gold quantum clusters. Towards a new class of nonlinear optical nanomaterials by : Rodolphe Antoine
Download or read book Liganded silver and gold quantum clusters. Towards a new class of nonlinear optical nanomaterials written by Rodolphe Antoine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-10-04 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Metallic quantum clusters belonging to intermediate size regime between two and few hundred of atoms, represent unique building blocks of new materials. Nonlinear optical (NLO) characteristics of liganded silver and gold quantum clusters reveal remarkable features which can be tuned by size, structure and composition. The two-photon absorption cross sections of liganded noble metal quantum clusters are several orders of magnitude larger than that of commercially-available dyes. Therefore, the fundamental photophysical understanding of those two-photon processes in liganded clusters with few metal atoms deserve special attention, in particularly in context of finding the mechanisms responsible for these properties. A broad range of state-of-the-art experimental methods to determine nonlinear optical properties (i.e. two-photon absorption, two-photon excited fluorescence and second harmonic generation) of quantum clusters are presented. The experimental setup and underlying physical concepts are described. Furthermore, the theoretical models and corresponding approaches are used allowing to explain the experimental observations and simultaneously offering the possibility to deduce the key factors necessary to design new classes of nanoclusters with large NLO properties. Additionally, selected studied cases of liganded silver and gold quantum clusters with focus on their NLO properties will be presented as promising candidates for applications in imaging techniques such as fluorescence microscopy or Second-Harmonic Generation microscopy.
