Book excerpt: It is, of course, a real challenge to summon together an International Sym posium in and around the Brain Stem and Third Ventricle. Up to this mo ment the various experiences and papers on this subject were distributed throughout the world literature, making it very difficult for someone in terested in the matter to have access to the actual state of knowledge. Therefore I believe such a meeting was long overdue and is a considerable attempt to open closed doors for present and future ambitious neurosurgi cal activities. After succeeding in previous symposiums of similar interest in Hanno ver, it was obvious that Prof. Madjid Samii and his coworkers took the in itiative of organizing such a meeting, bringing together - in the pure sense of the word - Neurosurgeons with Anatomists, Neurologists, Neuro physiologists, Neuroradiologists, ENT-, Maxillofacial-, Stereotactic-, and Radiosurgeons as well as other colleagues. One contribution after the other followed, from the basic sciences up to the operative management con sidering very new and actual concepts. Through the application of new microsurgical techniques and the incorporation of new understanding for the many problems afflicting the midline of the eNS, and based on a growing closer cooperation between the various disciplines, a wide field has opened up which concerns us all.

Book excerpt: In the last ten years the pediatric neurosurgeon has witnessed a real revolution in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric hydrocephalus, the most frequently encountered condition in everyday clinical practice. The evolution of MRI and the advent of neuroendoscopic surgery have resuscitated the interest in the classification, etiology and pathophysiology of hydrocephalus. The book offers an updated overview on the recent progress in this field, and a new approach to hydrocephalus: the reader will find in it a modern and new presentation of an old disease, where genetics, endoscopy, cost-effectiveness analyses and many other aspects of the various therapies are extensively discussed. The volume will be useful not only for neurosurgeons, but for all specialists interested in the various aspects of hydrocephalus: pediatricians, radiologists, endocrinologists, pathologists and geneticists.
Book Synopsis Endoscopic Anatomy of the Third Ventricle by : Wolfgang Seeger
Download or read book Endoscopic Anatomy of the Third Ventricle written by Wolfgang Seeger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-01 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated atlas of anatomical aspects important for combinations of microsurgical and endoscopic approaches. The basis for Professor Seeger’s renowned drawings has been anatomical preparations, cadaver dissections and intraoperative pictures. The correct proportions are derived by measuring the distances of anatomical landmarks of cranial preparations and from CT and MR Images. A concise text supports the understanding of the anatomical figures. Numerous common anatomical variants are demonstrated with reference to their impact for the surgical technique.
Book Synopsis Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy by : Roberto Alexandre Dezena
Download or read book Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy written by Roberto Alexandre Dezena and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-10 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endoscopic third ventriculostomy is the most widely performed neuroendoscopic procedure around the world. Several scientific papers appear in the scientific literature every month, with an increasing number, given the great interest neuroendoscopy has aroused as well as controversies about certain aspects of endoscopic third ventriculostomy. With this reasoning, the goal of this book is to be a reference in the revision of classic concepts and scientifically proven aspects about the indications and techniques of endoscopic third ventriculostomy, as well as new neuroendoscopic tendencies. The book is structured in 2 parts and into 7 chapters. Part I – Classic Concepts – comprises the first 2 chapters, covering general aspects of neuroendoscopy such as historical notes, endoscopic anatomy and ventricular system physiology. Part II – State-of-the-Art – comprises chapters 3 to 7. From chapters 3 to 6 the book will discuss general principles of endoscopic ventricular technique and the applications of endoscopic third ventriculostomy in different age groups, and its association to choroid plexus coagulation. Chapter 7 deals with alternative ways of communicating the ventricular system with the cisterns of the subarachnoid space. All chapters are richly illustrated with high resolution images; there are links to online access to demonstrative surgical videos. Designed for neurosurgeons at every level, the book will be unique in the market, as there is no similar book in the current scientific literature that specifically discusses endoscopic third ventriculostomy in its broadest sense.

Download or read book Surgery of the Diencephalon written by Robert Holtzman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problems of surgical intervention in and about the diencephalic region have stimu lated the interest of neurosurgeons throughout the world. It was therefore not totally surprising when Professor A. N. Konovalov proposed this topic for discussion at the Fifth Annual Stonwin Medical Conference. Bringing the leading figures in this area to New York for a roundtable conference was an exciting challenge. Professor Russel H. Patterson, Jr., generously consented to be our guest of honor. The conference was held at the Winston Estate on July 13-14, 1987, and met our every expectation for a vigorous exchange of individual experiences and more importantly for a dialogue directed toward present and future expectations in the surgery of this region. In addition, the discussions at that small dinner at the Harvard Club of New York led to the creation of an exchange program for neurosurgical residents, fellows, and faculty members of the N. N. Burdenko Neurosurgical Institute, Academy of Medical Science, and the Department of Neurosurgery of the New York Neurological Institute, which was planned for the spring and summer of 1988. The Stonwin Conference and the exchange agreement and program fostered by the Harry Winston Medical Foundation, Inc., represent the fulfillment of goals con ceived by Harry Winston and promulgated by his sons Ronald and Bruce. Henry B. Roberts, Jr.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Pediatric Surgery by : Chandrasen K. Sinha
Download or read book Handbook of Pediatric Surgery written by Chandrasen K. Sinha and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-25 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although pediatric surgery is a distinct and evolving specialty, it still remains an integral part of most general surgical and paediatric medical practice. Nevertheless, surgery in children does differ from adult practice in various fundamental ways, and there are key physiological and anatomical differences that constantly need underlining. Progress and improvement in outcome has also been rapid but it is sometimes difficult for practitioners to keep themselves up-to-date with the usual surgical or paediatric text books. This book will give a concise overview of all important topics and is designed to provide information in order to recognise the common surgical conditions; namely typical symptoms and signs, investigation and then treatment management. It will also provide an anatomical and physiological background to aid understanding, in addition to emphasising logical, and where possible, evidence-based practice by the use of flow charts, tables and algorithms. Authored by an international range of leading contributors, this is the first book of its kind to offer comprehensive coverage to this topic in a quick reference, pocket-book format.
