Book Synopsis Mechanisms for Selective Agglomeration of Coals by :
Download or read book Mechanisms for Selective Agglomeration of Coals written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement and control of the surface properties of coal and pyrite are important in the application of selective oil agglomeration for coal beneficiation and both received further study and consideration. One method of surface characterization involves measuring the heat of immersion of coal in water or other liquids. To develop a useful and consistent measurement technique, numerous measurements were conducted with Illinois No. 6 coal to study the effects of coal particle size and moisture content on the heat of immersion in heptane, water, hexadecane and methanol. The effect of particle size was also studied. Also, ground mineral pyrite was pretreated with dilute solutions of sodium sulfide at various Ph and then agglomerated with heptane. To achieve better control over the oil agglomeration process, oil agglomeration experiments were conducted with aqueous suspensions of graphite which were first degassed with a vacuum pump. 7 refs., 16 figs., 2 tabs.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overall objective of this work is to determine the important principles and basic mechanisms which underlie various selective oil agglomeration processes for beneficiating fine-size coal in order to facilitate the technical development and application of such processes to various types of coal. The recent work described herein has involved a more detailed study of the effects of mild oxidation on the surface properties of different types of coal and the relationship between the agglomerability of oxidized coals and their surface properties. In addition, the work has involved developing more effective means for separating coal and pyrite by finding and applying selective depressants for pyrite.

Book Synopsis Flotation and Selective Agglomeration of Western Coals by : Douglas Winston Fuerstenau
Download or read book Flotation and Selective Agglomeration of Western Coals written by Douglas Winston Fuerstenau and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of an investigation undertaken to provide a basis for improving the beneficiation of raw coals, with particular attention to processing of fine western coals by two surface chemical methods, froth flotation and selective oil agglomeration. Nine western coals from Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, ranging from subbituminous, class C, to high-volatile bituminous, class A, were selected for study and were characterized with respect to chemical composition, physical structure, and wettability. Excellent correspondence was found between chemical composition, particularly the concentration of active oxygen functional groups, and the flotation response of the nine coals. In addition, it was shown that hydrophobic interactions also have an important role in the adsorption of frothers on coals. A process involving a combination of oil agglomeration followed by froth flotation, using viscous oils at dosage rates less than 1 percent, was demonstrated to have potential for cleaning black water from coal operations.

This book was released on 1993 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface properties of coal-oil agglomerates were incorporated into a model based on the resolved hydrodynamics of the flotation process. The overall result was an integrated model where individual local mechanisms could be summed to determine recovery values which compared very well to a wide range of data. Download or read book The Coal Handbook: Towards Cleaner Production written by Dave Osborne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 787 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coal is an important fossil fuel resource for many nations due to its large remaining resources, relatively low production and processing cost and potential high energy intensity. Certain issues surround its utilisation, however, including emissions of pollutants and growing concern about climate change. The coal handbook: Towards cleaner production Volume 1 reviews the coal production supply chain from analysis to extraction and distribution.Part one explores coal characterisation and introduces the industrial use of coal as well as coal formation, petrography, reserves, sampling and analysis. Part two moves on to review coal extraction and preparation. Chapters highlight advances in coal mining technology, underground coal gas extraction, coal sizing, comminution and cleaning, and solid-liquid separation technologies for coal. Further chapters focus on economic factors affecting coal preparation, post-treatment of coal, coal tailings treatment, and the optimisation, simulation and control of coal preparation plants. Finally, part three considers aspects of the coal supply chain including the management approach and individual functions such as coal blending and homogenisation, transportation and handling along the entire supply chain. With its distinguished editor and international team of expert contributors, The coal handbook Volumes 1 and 2 is a comprehensive and invaluable resource for professionals in the coal mining, preparation, and utilisation industry, those in the power sector, including plant operators and engineers, and researchers and academics interested in this field. - Reviews the coal production supply chain from analysis to extraction and distribution - Explores coal characterisation, formation, petrography, reserves, sampling and analysis - Examines coal extraction and preparation and highlights advances in coal mining technology, underground coal gas extraction, coal sizing, comminution and cleaning, and solid-liquid separation technologies

Book Synopsis Agglomeration Processes by : Wolfgang B. Pietsch
Download or read book Agglomeration Processes written by Wolfgang B. Pietsch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agglomeration is integral to the processes of modification of powders, production of composites and creation of new materials which are required in pharmaceuticals, foods, chemicals, fertilizers and agrochemicals, minerals, ceramics, metallurgy and all material producing industries. The binding mechanisms and the particle behavior as well as the characteristics of the processes and the resulting agglomerates are the same whether they are occuring in the 'ultra-clean' pharmaceutical or food industries or in 'dirty' minerals or waste processing plants. The book introduces the interdisciplinary approach to the development of new concepts and the solution of problems. It is a complete and up-to-date practical guide describing the various agglomeration phenomena and industrial techniques for size enlargement. In addition to introducing the properties of agglomerates and the characteristics of the different methods, descriptions of the machinery and discussions of specific equipment features are the main topics. The detailed evaluation of the subject is based on the authors experience as student, researcher, teacher, developer, designer, vendor, and user as well as expert and consultant in the field of agglomeration, its technologies and products, and is complemented by the know-how of colleagues who are active in specific areas and information from vendors. It is intended for everybody working in industries that process and handle particulate solids as it aims to help understand and control unwanted agglomeration as well as use, improve, and develop methods for the beneficial size enlargement by agglomeration.
Book Synopsis Coal Flotation and Fine Coal Utilization by : J. Laskowski
Download or read book Coal Flotation and Fine Coal Utilization written by J. Laskowski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-07-04 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To stay profitable while complying with environmental regulations requires that the coal industry not only improve fine coal recovery but also finds better ways for its utilization. This is the first monograph on the processing of fine coal which recognizes that all unit operations that handle fine coal depend on coal surface properties, and which in one single volume provides a comprehensive introduction to coal surface chemistry, using it rigorously in treating coal flotation fundamentals and engineering, fine coal manipulation, pelletization and briquetting, and coal-water slurries. Readers involved in mineral processing, chemical engineering, mining and metallurgical engineering; technical personnel working for reagent suppliers; and scientists researching the field of coal surface chemistry, flotation and fine coal utilization will find this volume of great interest.
