The marketing bill statistics usually are published in the July issue. Methods employed in estimating the market basket statistics are described in Part II of M. P. 741. The nature of these data and factors affecting farm-retail Spreads are discussed in Part I. The market basket contains the estimated average quantities of farm food products bought by urban wage-earner and clerical-worker families in1952. Data are published also for 47 individual products and 7 product groups. M. P. 741 and this supplement give only annual data for some of these products; quarterly data may be obtained by Writing the Marketing Information Division, Agricultural Marketing Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture, Washington 25, D. C. Copies of Miscellaneous Publication 741, farm-retail may be purchased from the Government Printing Office Washington 25, D. C., for each.
