This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was a great honour and a mark of our friendship that RENE DJINDJIAN asked me to present this new work from the Lariboisiere neuroradiological school. Professor DJINDJIAN died on 11th October. Introducing this book now, I feel that I am dealing with a fatherless child, where feelings of admiration and pleasure are mixed with the sadness of the loss and the bitterness of an unfinished task. This work on the superselective angiography of the branches of the external carotid artery is a direct continuation of the previous studies of Professor DJINDJIAN, whose name will continue to be closely associated with the development and progress of arteriography in recent years, particularly with arteriography of the spinal cord. It was realised together with his pupil, JEAN-JACQUES MERLAND, whose remarkable thesis for the Doctorat en Medecine a few years ago also dealt with this subject, and with the collaboration of JACQUES THERON, also for many years a pupil of RENE DJINDJIAN, and is translated here by his friend I.F. MOSELEY.

Book Synopsis External Carotid Artery by : Hiro Kiyosue
Download or read book External Carotid Artery written by Hiro Kiyosue and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-12 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas presents the detailed anatomy of the external carotid arterial branches for interventional radiology. In the last decade, interventional neuroradiology (endovascular treatment via the cerebral arteries) has advanced rapidly thanks to the development of new technological devices, such as detachable coils for brain aneurysm. Anatomical knowledge of the target vessels is essential for interventional neuroradiology, and innovative new imaging techniques like 3D angiography and image fusion techniques can depict the detailed anatomy of small vessels together with surrounding organs. This compilation provides not only 2D angiography images, but also 3D and cross-sectional images, as well as fusion images mainly based on 3D angiography, CT and MRI to further readers’ understanding of the complicated anatomy of the small branches of the external carotid artery. It also describes the branches’ clinical significance in endovascular treatment. The book offers a valuable resource for interventional neuroradiologists, neurosurgeons and neurologists, as well as otolaryngologists, plastic surgeons, radiology technicians, and all medical staff involved in interventional radiology.
Download or read book Cerebral Angiomas written by H.W. Pia and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The basic principles of the management of cerebral arteriovenous mal formations were established during the first phase of the neurological attack on these problems between 1930 and 1960. The leaders were CUSHING, BAILEY and DANDY, but principally OUVECRONA, and in Ger many TONNIS. The experience gained showed that complete excision of the arteriovenous angioma was the only certain cure, and therefore was the procedure of choice. In the present second phase important advances should be made and indeed are occurring. New diagnostic techniques such as total angio graphy, selective and superselective angiography, intraoperative and fluorescein angiography, and the EMI-scanner have been developed. The pathophysiological aspects have been further investigated by indirect and direct measurement of local and general cerebral blood flow. Parallel with these developments operative technique itself has been improved and modified by new methods. A more aggressive attitude has been stimulated towards those angiomas, which had to be regarded as inoperable only a few years ago. Among these many im provements and technical advances include microsurgical techniques, combined stereotactic and microsurgical procedures, artificial emboliza tion of different kinds and the cryosurgical management. Multiple variables such as the age of the patient, the type, localization, and size of the angioma, its clinical picture and the possible complica tions, such as hemorrhage have been analysed and are understood better. These factors influence the indication for, and choice of, the appropriate procedure to a great extent.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 28th annual conference of the German Society for Neurosurgery was held in Cologne, West Germany, from the 18th to the 21st of September 1977. The conference dealt with problems concerning craniocerebral injuries and space-occupying processes in the posterior cranial fossa as well as general topics on clinical practice and research with special attention paid to the work of younger neurosurgeons. This volume is a presentation of the conference results. Within the scope of the general topics, special interest was directed toward the que stion of the current status of cytostatic treatment for brain tumors. In addition to experimental investigations, the results concerning cerebral tumors and medulloblas tomas are reported. Cerebellar tumors represent two further focal points: 1. From the diagnostic viewpoint, specific results from computerized tomography are discussed, especially with regard to the more extensive anatomic difficulties involved in the posterior cranial fossa. 2. With emphasis on cerebellar processes, the results of long-term measurements of intracranial pressure during the postoperative follow-up period are reported.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this age when we are witnessing a veritable explosion in new modalities in diagnos tic imaging we continue to have a great need for detailed studies of the vascularity of the brain in patients who have all types of cerebral vascular disease. Much of the understanding of cerebral vascular occlusive lesions which we developed in the last two decades was based on our ability to demonstrate the vessels that were affected. Much experimental work in animals had been done where major cerebral vessels were obstructed and the effects of these obstructions on the brain observed pathologically. However, it was not until cerebral angiography could be performed with the detail that became possible in the decades of the '60 's and subsequently that we could begin to understand the relationship of the obstructed vessels observed angiographically to the clinical findings. In addition, much physiologic information was obtained. For instance, the concept ofluxury perfusion which is used to describe non-nutritional flow through the tissues was observed first angiographically although the term was not used until LASSEN described it as a pathophysiological phenomenon observed during cerebral blood flow studies with radioactive isotopes. The concept of embolic occlusions of the cerebral vessels as against thrombosis was clarified and the relative frequency of thrombosis versus embolism was better understood. The concept of collateral circulation of the brain through so-called meningeal end-to end arterial anastomoses was vastly better understood when serial angiography in obstructive cerebral vascular disease was carried out with increasing frequency.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few years ago, at the Symposium of Neuroradiology in Rome, ZIEDSES DES PLANTES made a decisive contribution to cerebral angiography with photographic subtraction. From this time on, technical advances, anatomical findings, therapeutic tests such as embolization, development of stereo taxy, and computerized axial tomography have opened a wide field for cerebral angiography. These important findings became the subject of a scientific meeting. The quality of the presentations and the results of each re port made this a most interesting symposium. I am very grateful to all those who contributed to make it a success. G. Book Synopsis Radiology Today 1 by : Martin W. Donner
Download or read book Radiology Today 1 written by Martin W. Donner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book encompasses the proceedings of a very successful post graduate course entitled "Radiology Today" held in Salzburg in June 1980. It was organised by Dr. Martin W. Donner of Baltimore and Dr. F. H. W. Heuck of Stuttgart. It was attended by 230 radiologists from 17 countries. The aim was to select a certain number of subjects in diagnostic radiology and in each to have a broad spectrum overview reviewing recent advances presented by an acknowledged expert, followed by a series of rather more detailed papers on various aspects of that field, again given by acknowledged experts drawn from countries throughout Europe and also from the United States of America. This series of presentations on a theme was then followed later the same day by a "workshop" discussion at which the speakers, sometimes joined by other experts from collateral fields of interest, acted as a panel for discussion with the over-view speaker acting as moderator.
