Book excerpt: Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Toni Morrison’s Beloved is a spellbinding and dazzlingly innovative portrait of a woman haunted by the past. Sethe was born a slave and escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not free. She has borne the unthinkable and not gone mad, yet she is still held captive by memories of Sweet Home, the beautiful farm where so many hideous things happened. Meanwhile Sethe’s house has long been troubled by the angry, destructive ghost of her baby, who died nameless and whose tombstone is engraved with a single word: Beloved. Sethe works at beating back the past, but it makes itself heard and felt incessantly in her memory and in the lives of those around her. When a mysterious teenage girl arrives, calling herself Beloved, Sethe’s terrible secret explodes into the present. Combining the visionary power of legend with the unassailable truth of history, Morrison’s unforgettable novel is one of the great and enduring works of American literature.

Download or read book The Fleeing Youth written by Richard Distasi and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-07-17 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is commonly accepted that the mission of Christ was an act that was independent of any corresponding and requisite deed on the part of humanity. Though, in part, this is true this book asserts that the future spiritual evolution of humanity was dependent on human comprehension and understanding of the Event of Golgotha. Comprehension and understanding are defined in this work as one's capacity to spiritually follow Christ through His entire Passion, Death and resurrection. The Apostles were chosen for this very task but eventually failed at the critical hour.Golgotha,Esoteric Christianity,Young Man in Tomb, Birth of Jesus,Evolution of Christ,Richard Distasi
Book Synopsis Confederate Sheet Music by : E. Lawrence Abel
Download or read book Confederate Sheet Music written by E. Lawrence Abel and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2011-06-03 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the American Civil War, songs united and inspired people on both sides. The North had a well-established music publishing industry when the war broke out, but the South had no such industry. The importance of music as an expression of the South's beliefs was obvious; as one music publisher said, "The South must not only fight her own battles but sing her own songs and dance to music composed by her own children." Southern entrepreneurs quickly rose to the challenge. This reference book is distinguished by three major differences from previously published works. First, it lists sheet music that is no longer extant (and listed nowhere else). Second, it gives complete lyrics for all extant songs, a rich source for researchers. And third, a brief historical background has been provided for many of the songs. Each entry provides as much of the following as possible (staying faithful to the typography of each title page): the title as published, names of all lyricists, composers and publishers; dates of publication; cities of publication; and if applicable, the names of catalogs or magazines in which the song appeared. Music published in Southern cities under Federal occupation is excluded.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carl Jung called this book a commentary on the prodromal stages of schizophrenia. The object of his research was the writings of the American performer Miss Frank Miller. After reading her papers, Jung decided the lady was developing an early stage of schizophrenia. Although he was eventually wrong, the work is considered one of his main works and belongs to his major opus "Symbols of Transformation" under the name "Miller Fantasies." Later in his life, Jung acknowledged that, in fact, he was trying to analyze his own psyche and referred to personal problems.

Two orphans grow into powerful young women as they face countless threats to find their way back to each other. Farleigh is just an orphanage. At least, that's what the church would have the people believe, but beautiful orphans Nox and fae-touched Amaris know better. They are commodities for sale, available for purchase by the highest bidder. So when the madame of a notorious brothel in a far-off city offers a king's ransom to purchase Amaris, Nox ends up taking her place — while Amaris is drawn away to the mountains, home of mysterious assassins. Even as they take up new lives and identities, Nox and Amaris never forget one thing: they will stop at nothing to reunite. But the threat of war looms overhead, and the two are inevitably swept into a conflict between human and fae, magic and mundane. With strange new alliances, untested powers, and a bond that neither time nor distance could possibly break, the fate of the realms lies in the hands of two orphans — and the love they hold for each other.
