Book Synopsis Native Languages of the Americas by : Thomas Sebeok
Download or read book Native Languages of the Americas written by Thomas Sebeok and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 637 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirteen of the chapters that comprise the contents of this first volume of Native Languages of the A mericas were originally commissioned by the undersigned in his capacity as Editor of the fourteen volume series (1963-1976), Current Trends in Linguistics. All appeared, in 1973, under Part Three of the quadripartite Vol. 10, subtitled Linguistics in North America. Two additional chaplers are being held over for the volume to follow shortly, devoted to Central and South American lan guages and linguistics, where they more appropriately belong. A fourteenth chapter, on the" Historiography of native North A merican linguistics," was written similarly by invitation, for Vol. 13, subtitled Historiography of Linguistics, published in 1975. Both Volumes 10 and 13 were jointly financed by the United States National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities, with an enhancing contribution to the former by the Canada Council. The generosity of these funding agencies was, of course, previously acknowledged in my respective Editor's Introductions to the two books mentioned, but cannot be repeated too often: without their welcome and timely assistance, the global project could scarcely have been realized on so comprehensive a scale. The Current Trends in Linguistics series was a long-term venture of Mouton Publishers, of The Hague, under the imaginative in-house direction of Peter de Rid der. Various spin-offs were foreseen, and some of them happily realized.
Book Synopsis PLANTATION HILL (book 1) by : Jackie Lynaugh
Download or read book PLANTATION HILL (book 1) written by Jackie Lynaugh and published by Southern Soul Novels. This book was released on 2020-10-10 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A quest for the last ultimatum until death do us part happily ever after. Tee Hart is the lovable savvy southern hero who lives on a plantation in Orange County, Florida. Tee opens his heart to a new life after the death of his first wife until the unthinkable happens. For years, rumors have haunted the small rural town of Orlando. In late 1990, when handsome Tee went missing. The locals immediately suspected his second wife, Irene, the so-called local Orange Queen. But Irene yearns to be loved, and marriage is her key to having it all. Tee was intrigued by Irene’s wild beauty and learned the hard way. Then, he had to choose what generations of Hart’s fought the hardest to keep, their legacy. Plantation Hill is an enchanting world most have not lived in. A heartbreaking southern story and a surprising tale of a potential murder. Ms. Lynaugh reminds us that over time we become our parents. What our parents teach us shapes our world, and we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets kept from one generation to another. An awakening in how decisions, desires, and expectations can alter a family's destiny. Success or failure—life and death—all turn into Nectar, the (second series) of Plantation Hill. Followed by Hart to Hart (third series). Ask yourself the important questions: Are you living a sweet life? Is your legacy in safe hands? If not, you will want to read PLANTATION HILL. + + + “The story of Plantation Hill offers a hefty dose of reality. There’s also a final, damning piece of evidence in the courtroom scene that feels very much like a deus ex machina. A family saga with a worthwhile premise. Ms. Lynaugh has a distinct knack for worldbuilding and setting scenes.” – KIRKUS Reviews "First, I always have trouble expressing my thoughts, either on paper or speaking. This is a magnificent book that will remain with me forever. I've you love reading about the South, this is definitely the book. I love everything about the South and I am from the North, born and raised. This book has so much detail starting from the beautiful cover to the end. The characters are all unforgettable and each with their own story to tell. It's a book you can't put down once you start. Definitely a page turner, and definitely one to recommend to your family and friends. The author goes into detail about the enormous land and pastures and of course the home. Did I say home? Oh no! The exquisite plantation, that's the right word. I fell in love with Plantation Hill and all it contained. This is an exceptional book that I wouldn't be surprised when it becomes a movie! How wonderful would that be? Ah! I would watch it over and over. That's how good this book is, and more!" Anne

Book excerpt: Single Dad Next Door: Every girl in my sorority wants the smoking hot mechanic next door, myself included, but a man is the last thing I need in my life—especially a tattooed single dad with a reputation as a badass. A man like that draws attention, and a woman hiding out from an abusive ex needs to keep a low profile—but then my car breaks down and I have no way to pay. Single Dad on Tap: When the guy next door, the same one I’ve been crushing on forever, mistakes my interest in a hot firefighter, I want to set him straight, until he begins worshipping every single inch of my curvy body. Yeah, only a fool would put a stop to that, and I don’t consider myself a fool—until the lines between what’s real and what isn’t begin to blur, and I almost forget Jesse is helping me to attract another man. How the hell am I going to get myself out of this mess? Then again, who says I have to? Single Dad Burning Up: Callan is big, athletic and tough, a man haunted by his past, but beneath the rough exterior, he’s gentle and tender. And he makes me feel safe. He’s the perfect person to have a pretend relationship with when my ex, an overbearing cop who frightens me, decides he wants me back. We have to be realistic for this to work—my ex can spot a lie in a second, and Callan plays the lover well. So well that it isn’t long before we’re playing house for real, until a secret and a surprise hit at the same time, and threatens everything we’ve built.
