This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 405 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sudbury, Ontario is one of the world's most polluted areas. A century of industrial activities has resulted in thousands of acidified lakes and vast areas of denuded land. This book describes, in a manner accessible to a wide audience, the damage and the efforts at environmental restoration at Sudbury which resulted in its winning a United Nations award in 1992 for land reclamation. The book has been written by a distinguished group of contributors, ranging from experts in acid rain and land reclamation to environmental engineers and toxicologists.

Download or read book Springer Handbook of Petroleum Technology written by Chang Samuel Hsu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 1243 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook provides a comprehensive but concise reference resource for the vast field of petroleum technology. Built on the successful book "Practical Advances in Petroleum Processing" published in 2006, it has been extensively revised and expanded to include upstream technologies. The book is divided into four parts: The first part on petroleum characterization offers an in-depth review of the chemical composition and physical properties of petroleum, which determine the possible uses and the quality of the products. The second part provides a brief overview of petroleum geology and upstream practices. The third part exhaustively discusses established and emerging refining technologies from a practical perspective, while the final part describes the production of various refining products, including fuels and lubricants, as well as petrochemicals, such as olefins and polymers. It also covers process automation and real-time refinery-wide process optimization. Two key chapters provide an integrated view of petroleum technology, including environmental and safety issues.Written by international experts from academia, industry and research institutions, including integrated oil companies, catalyst suppliers, licensors, and consultants, it is an invaluable resource for researchers and graduate students as well as practitioners and professionals.

Book Synopsis Characterization of Sulfur Recovery in Oil and Natural Gas Production by : Keshava S. Murthy
Download or read book Characterization of Sulfur Recovery in Oil and Natural Gas Production written by Keshava S. Murthy and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. oil and natural gas production and processing systems are described. The sources of sulfur emissions in these systems as well as the current methods of control of such emissions are traced. Fourteen major and four minor processes for sweetening (removing H2S) sour gas, two processes (Claus and Stretford) for production of sulfur and six processes for tail gas cleanup are described. Some factors that may help choose a process of a particular application are also indicated. The location of 84 Claus sulfur production plants used in natural gas facilities, their design capactiy, and production data are tabulated. The contribution of SO2 emissions from the natural gas processing industry to the national SO2 emission is compared and described. Control options available for different levels of hypothetical allowable sulfur emissions from the natural gas inudstry are described.
