Download or read book Year of No Sugar written by Eve Schaub and published by Sourcebooks, Inc.. This book was released on 2014-04-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fans of the New York Times bestseller I Quit Sugar or Katie Couric's controversial food industry documentary Fed Up, A Year of No Sugar is a "delightfully readable account of how [one family] survived a yearlong sugar-free diet and lived to tell the tale...A funny, intelligent, and informative memoir." —Kirkus It's dinnertime. Do you know where your sugar is coming from? Most likely everywhere. Sure, it's in ice cream and cookies, but what scared Eve O. Schaub was the secret world of sugar—hidden in bacon, crackers, salad dressing, pasta sauce, chicken broth, and baby food. With her eyes opened by the work of obesity expert Dr. Robert Lustig and others, Eve challenged her husband and two school-age daughters to join her on a quest to quit sugar for an entire year. Along the way, Eve uncovered the real costs of our sugar-heavy American diet—including diabetes, obesity, and increased incidences of health problems such as heart disease and cancer. The stories, tips, and recipes she shares throw fresh light on questionable nutritional advice we've been following for years and show that it is possible to eat at restaurants and go grocery shopping—with less and even no added sugar. Year of No Sugar is what the conversation about "kicking the sugar addiction" looks like for a real American family—a roller coaster of unexpected discoveries and challenges. "As an outspoken advocate for healthy eating, I found Schaub's book to shine a much-needed spotlight on an aspect of American culture that is making us sick, fat, and unhappy, and it does so with wit and warmth."—Suvir Sara, author of Indian Home Cooking "Delicious and compelling, her book is just about the best sugar substitute I've ever encountered."—Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ron Powers

Book Synopsis Reconciling food law to competitiveness by : Bernd van der Meulen
Download or read book Reconciling food law to competitiveness written by Bernd van der Meulen and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The food sector is the third most regulated industry in the EU. It is the most important production sector, but its competitiveness and innovativeness are under pressure. This book reports on a legal research into the question if there is a connection between the sector’s declining innovativeness and competitiveness on the one hand and the increasing regulatory burden on the other hand. The aim is to indicate opportunities to remove avoidable obstacles for the food industry in general and small and medium enterprises in particular. The book brings to light several shortcomings in the regulatory framework and makes concrete recommendations for simplifying and improving EU food legislation. The findings are based on fundamental legal analyses. They are combined with the following three empirical case studies: -premarket approval schemes, for novel foods in particular; -the application of the EU food hygiene package in the dairy sector in selected regions in Italy and France; and -private standards in the Dutch dairy sector. The book shows that compliance by the EU legislator and authorities with EU food law principles and requirements is key to improving the position of food businesses.

Book Synopsis Aliphatic Compounds by : Malcolm Sainsbury
Download or read book Aliphatic Compounds written by Malcolm Sainsbury and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-06-24 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rodd's Chemistry of Carbon Compounds, Volume I: Aliphatic Compounds focuses on the chemistry of polyhydric alcohols and saccharides. The chemistry of polyhydric alcohols is a vast and crucially important area, not only because of the prominent roles that polyols have in their own right, but because of the way they and their modified forms are incorporated into natural products. The topics covered include the analogues, derivatives, and oxidation products of trihydric and tetrahydric alcohols; phospholipids; polyhydric alcohols and their oxidation products; synthesis, chemistry, structure and physical properties, and use in the synthesis as chiral templates and asymmetric synthesis of natural products of monosaccharides; and disaccharides and oligosaccharides. This text also discusses the applications of carbohydrates as chiral auxiliaries, templates, and starting materials in syntheses. This volume is a useful reference for students and organic chemists.
