Book excerpt: Excerpt from Successful Selling The discoveries Of the centuries upon which we look with pride are not only the work of the inventive mind fired with the flame of genius, but are the reflex results Of the world's demands. Sellers as much as inventors stand behind them. It was the sellers who rebuilt San Francisco after the great fire. The Panama Canal was sold and bought and sold again. Sellers have flooded our highways with the fleet automobile; they have bridged rivers and mountains and united nations. In their endless creations of desire for the new, the better, the sellers will shortly lift the populace into airships. Book excerpt: Dr. Orison Swett Marden was an American inspirational author who wrote about achieving success in life and founded Success magazine in 1897. His writings discuss common-sense principles and virtues that make for a well-rounded, successful life. Many of his ideas are based on New Thought philosophy. Orison Swett Marden was part of a group called 'The New Thought Movement.' It was a spiritual group that emphasized metaphysical beliefs and personal development. While it had religious overtones, it had at its base infinite insight and intelligence. Marden was influenced and inspired - as were many - by one of the original personal development writers, Samuel Smiles. It's more interesting to note who followed Orison Swett Marden, most notably Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie. Orison Swett Marden wrote more than 60 books in a period of 30 years without a word processor, and barely with a typewriter. Also keep in mind that he was an educated person, having graduated from Boston University, Andover Theological Seminary, and Harvard University with an MD and LL.B. degrees. He also went back to school to master oratory skills.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is one of Wilde’s most intriguing essays. Part biography, part social commentary, and part philosophical debate, he writes the biography of an art critic, who was also convicted of murder. However, in true Wildean style, there’s more to the essay than meets the eye. While documenting the life and crimes of Thomas Griffiths Wainwright, Wilde explores the ideas of dual identity, sin in the formation of the personality, and the relationship between crime and culture. ‘Pen, Pencil, and Poison’ is a fascinating insight into some of the conventions of the time. Oscar Wilde (1854 – 1900) was an Irish novelist, poet, playwright, and wit. He was an advocate of the Aesthetic movement, which extolled the virtues of art for the sake of art. During his career, Wilde wrote nine plays, including ‘The Importance of Being Earnest,’ ‘Lady Windermere’s Fan,’ and ‘A Woman of No Importance,’ many of which are still performed today. His only novel, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ was adapted for the silver screen, in the film, ‘Dorian Gray,’ starring Ben Barnes and Colin Firth. In addition, Wilde wrote 43 poems, and seven essays. His life was the subject of a film, starring Stephen Fry.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Successful Salesman The beginner in salesmanship, the young man just starting out to gain his initial experience in selling, can learn much about the work and about proper methods without waiting to pick it up as he goes along. The old salesman, too, can learn a great deal other than by experience. No man ever gets to where he knows all about his line of work, least of all when it is salesmanship. And no man gets to where he can assume that it is not worth while for him to study his kind of work in the available text books and literature on the subject. This book was released on 2017-12-24 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Creation of a Selling Organization The first essential to the creation of a successful selling organization is that it be recognized as the most important part of the business. This is true without regard to the price of the product which is to be sold, its quality or quantity. Disregard of this fact has caused many failures. Articles pos sessing unusual merit frequently go down unheard of in the swallowing sea of competitive commerce because their disposal has been entrusted to sales organizations devoid of merit, whereas inferior articles often obtain a wide market by reason of having a good sales organization behind them. There is no concern so big, nor is there one so small, that those who are responsible for its success can, without courting disaster, do other than give their best thought, their greatest energy and their closest personal attention to the sales department. Econ omy of manufacture, or, in the case of a wholesaler, close and careful buying, are things which should be both desired and accomplished, but they will count for little unless there is created a sufficient demand for the goods to make possible the distribu tion of the fixed charges over a large output. Ourgreatest manufacturing and mercantile concerns are great, chiefly because they have mastered the art of marketing their products with a maximum of return at a minimum of expense. It is important that the man directly in charge of the sales department should himself be a successful salesman. If the president of the company is quali fied for this position, so much the better; in any event, it should generally be filled by an officer, with title and authority no less than that of a vice-presi dent, if the best results are to be attained. Not only does this insure that close personal supervision which the management should always exercise, but it digni fies the department with the result that the men in it will take a greater pride in their work and in their organization than they are likely to take if they were working under a salaried employer.
