Book Synopsis Progress in Liver Diseases by : Hans Popper
Download or read book Progress in Liver Diseases written by Hans Popper and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 567 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in Liver Diseases, Volume II presents the progress made in the understanding of bilirubin metabolism and secretion. This book discusses the mechanisms underlying the transport of bilirubin in the liver, intestine, and kidney. Organized into 31 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of bilirubin metabolism and secretion from the point of view of transport within the liver cell. This text then discusses the relation of hematopoietic factors and coagulation mechanisms to hepatic function. Other chapters consider the etiology of viral hepatitis. This book discusses as well the appearance of genetic considerations in liver disease, as a reflection of progress in this discipline. The final chapter deals with the effects of closer relations with other nations and of migration from foreign lands and vice-versa, which have continued the interest in geographic pathology. This book is a valuable resource for pathologists, physicians, biochemists, physiologists, clinicians, and clinical researchers.
Book Synopsis Ultrastructural Pathology of the Cell and Matrix by : Feroze N. Ghadially

This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrastructural Pathology of the Cell and Matrix: Third Edition Volume I present a comprehensive examination of the intracellular lesion. It discusses the analysis of pathological tissues using electron microscope. It addresses the experimental procedures made on the cellular level. Some of the topics covered in the book are the physiological analysis of the nucleus; nuclear matrix, interchromatin, and perichromatin granules; structure and function of centrioles; characteristics of mitochondria; Golgi complex in cell differentiation and neoplasia; and degranulation of rough endoplasmic reticulum. The intracytoplasmic and intranuclear annulate lamellae are fully covered. An in-depth account of the classification, history, and nomenclature of lysosomes are provided. The morphology and normal variations of melanosomes and anchoring fibrils are completely presented. A chapter is devoted to the endocytotic structures and cell processes. Another section focuses on the classification and nomenclature of fibrous components. The book can provide useful information to cytologists, scientists, students, and researchers.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Electron Microscopy by : Saul Wischnitzer

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Electron Microscopy, Second Edition provides an introduction to the foundations of electron microscopy; an outline of some practical aspects of instrument operation; and discussion of the rationale of the methodology of biological specimen preparation. The book seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of the theoretical and operational aspects of the electron microscope. This edition consists of two parts. Part One deals with the history, basic theory, and operation of the electron microscope. Part Two discusses steps used in material preparation for electron microscope investigation such as fixation, embedding, and staining techniques. Biomedical researchers, molecular biologists, toxicologists, forensic investigators, and medical students will find this book a very useful reference.
Book Synopsis The Hepatobiliary System by : W. Taylor
Download or read book The Hepatobiliary System written by W. Taylor and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 643 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A volume on the biliary system appeared in 1965, based on a symposium of the NATO Advanced Institute held in September, 1963, in Newcastle upon Tyne in England. It soon became an authorita tive text on the problems of the biliary tract and, for instance, the discussion on the biliary secretion of organic anions, organic cations and inorganic ions were classic references. The worn pages of the volume in many libraries, including my own, bespeak its usefulness over ten long years. The initiative and energy of the Director of the first Institute have to be admired, even more so since he was able to assemble a Second Institute in Aalborg, Denmark, in 1975. His wisdom is reflected in the selection of the subjects discussed. The comparison between the two volumes tells something about the advancement in the time interval in knowledge about liver and biliary tract diseases, about the turnover of researchers interested in the liver and its diseases, and also about the present philosophy in biologic science. For this com parison, this volume is particularly suited because, in contrast to many other recent conferences, the more leisurely pace of the NATO Institutes permits more comprehensive but still scholarly reviews of the problems. The foreword of the first volume, written by my colleague, the late Harry Sobotka, expresses his, now dated, astonishment about the progress of knowledge of biology of the bile, so much less accessible to study than urine.
Book Synopsis Symposium on Biophysics and Physiology of Biological Transport by : Liana Bolis
Download or read book Symposium on Biophysics and Physiology of Biological Transport written by Liana Bolis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of cell membranes began to attract increasing interest before the turn of the present century with the observations of 0 verton. Since that time many investigators have become interested in the broad problem of structure and function of the membrane and today we find ourselVes at a stage in which several branches of research, particularly physical chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology and pharmacology have come together, leading to the possibility of obtaining a better perspective of the overall problems. The purpose of this Symposium was to assemble in an orderly sequence representations of the knowledge of membranes achieved to date in the areas of the various disciplines. It was thought that to bring together many points of view on a problem should allow the conferees to see better what had been accomplished, what has been overlooked and what needs further development. It is to be hoped that efforts of this type have and will fulfill the desired purpose. This volume contains the majority of the papers contributed by the participants in the Symposium. In addition, it seemed logical to place at the beginning of each chapter at least one general survey of the subject which would help those who were less acquainted with the problem to derive the most benefit from their reading.

Book Synopsis Microbodies and Related Particles by : Z. Hruban
Download or read book Microbodies and Related Particles written by Z. Hruban and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-11-06 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microbodies and Related Particles: Morphology, Biochemistry, and Physiology focuses on the reactions, properties, transformations, and technologies involved in microbodies and related particles. The book first offers information on cytoplasmic particles limited by a single membrane and microbodies of various animal species. Topics include multivesicular and heterogeneous dense bodies, rodents, lower vertebrates, birds, monotremes, marsupials, insectivores, primates, and carnivores. The text also underscores the marginal plate and crystalloid, including structure of the marginal plate, structures resembling the marginal plate, finely polytubular type, and crystalloids of other tissues. The publication takes a look at the distribution of microbodies and topographical relationship of microbodies to cellular organelles, as well as hepatic lobule and renal cortex and intracellular distribution. The text also examines the microbodies of fetal and newborn animals, formation of microbodies, and effect of tissue preparation on microbodies. The book is a valuable source of data for readers interested in microbodies and related particles.
