In order to maintain viability and profitability in view of various global players and competition from the tigers of S.E Asia, the industry has to incorporate the tools and practices followed internationally. Local companies have been encouraged to enter the field with the indigenization "Make in India" policies of the Government. However, their competitiveness and survival in the market depend on various factors involving Productivity, Management, Lean Manufacturing, and Finance. The parameters obtained in the study were analyzed for a local company chosen for testing some of these concepts. The objectives of this study were to review the operations of a local company engaged in export-oriented activities and illustrate adherence to and deficiencies of typical management principles applicable to such activities. It is hoped that the study would be useful to other students and businesses attempting to enter the market.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a company ecosystem the supply chain manager is tasked with duties and objectives primarily aimed at controlling and reducing costs, while optimizing the material flows. Yet, in many organizations, common perception limits supply chain management to product logistics, materials handling and warehouse management. The supply chain manager must learn how to communicate the results of his work to show the importance and impact supply chain management operations have on a company. In this book, Enrico Camerinelli provides the supply chain manager and the chief financial officer with the means to link the value of the supply chain to an organization's bottom line. He explores the problem with current supply chain metrics, shows how to close the gap between financial decisions and supply chain performance, suggests a model to provide a lingua franca for supply chain, financial and other managers throughout the company and points to ways in which new technology can help measure the value of the supply chain. Using case studies and interviews with supply chain and financial experts, Measuring the Value of the Supply Chain will help financial and supply chain managers achieve strategic advantage through effective supply chain management.

Book excerpt: Different management strategies and diversification of business entities make the concept of "supply chain" dynamic and evolve in the theory and practice of business. The semantic concept of the words "supply chain" is questionable. A literature review identifies three main perceptions of supply chain. Supply chain management is a decision-making process related to the synchronization of the physical, information and financial flows of demand and supply flowing between its participants in order to achieve their competitive advantage, create added value and value for the customer, for the benefit of all its links, including suppliers, recipients and other stakeholders. The book is a concise and in-depth analysis of the materials used for my doctoral dissertation in economics in the field of management. I also included material that I have presented in scientific studies and books. It presents a new perspective on supply chains, which according to this concept are divided with regard to the acting forces of synergy. Synergy contradicts the idea of 2 + 2 =5. While analyzing the groups, I conducted experiments which showed that a synergistic group aims to maintain its shared energy at a certain level. Therefore, I formulated an innovative rule supported by the formula E1 + E2 + E3 = constant to explain the formation of small social groups. This book provides the first explanation of group consciousness.

Book excerpt: Supply Chain Strategy and Financial Metrics is a step-by-step guide to balancing the triangle of service, cost and cash which is the essence of supply chain management. Supply chains have become increasingly strategy-driven, and this Supply Chain Triangle approach puts the supply chain at the heart of the strategy discussion instead of seeing it as a result. Supply Chain Strategy and Financial Metrics fully reflects the 'inventory' or 'working capital' angle and examines the optimisation of the supply chain and Return on Capital Employed. Including case studies of Barco, Casio and a selection of food retail companies, this book covers building a strategy-driven KPI dashboard, target setting and financial benchmarking. Regular examples and diagrams illustrate how different types of strategies lead to different trade-offs in the Supply Chain Triangle. This ground-breaking text links supply chain, strategy and finance through financial metrics, therefore creating value for the shareholder. Online supporting resources include worksheets covering basic financial concepts such as cash flow and working capital, with example data sets and guidelines/exercises to make it interactive.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Against this current trend of low growth and high uncertainty, business directors must work with their shareholders to set strategic objectives and define business models. The great number of possible strategies makes this type of management very complex, and the actual deployment of strategic choices is often limited by a lack of overall coherence within the organization. This problem calls for an appropriate and renewed response. In strategic management today, a closer, permanent dialogue is needed between operational and financial performance. Based on a supply chain approach, the Value Added Supply Chain (VASC) model focuses on driving operational performance, but aims to achieve a greater and more dynamic integration between these two dimensions of the company's value creation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need to contain costs across the business is as strong as ever and the search for cost reduction opportunities is intensifying. There still remains one last major opportunity to take out costs - through the supply chain. Ultimately all costs will make their way to the final marketplace to be reflected in the price paid by the end user. Smart companies instead seek to make the supply chain more competitive through the value it creates and the costs it reduces overall. They have realized that the real competition is not company against company but rather supply chain against supply chain. Supply Chain Management Accounting looks at how the evolution of supply chains has been dramatic over the last few years, with more and more companies moving to sourcing overseas, distributing finished goods to overseas markets, and increasing their international operations. The seeking of low-cost country sourcing, optimizing manufacturing, and exporting products and services has created new challenges to demand forecasting and supply chain planning. Supply Chain Management Accounting presents a wide range of approaches and ground-breaking research findings. The book covers profitability, liquidity and asset utilization, product costing, activity-based costing, investment appraisal, customer profitability analysis, budgeting and sales and operations planning. Online supporting resources include invaluable study questions and worked solutions to reinforce the learning as well as multiple-choice questions with solutions and PowerPoint activities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Financing the End-to-End Supply Chain provides readers with a real insight into the increasingly important area of supply chain finance. It demonstrates the importance of the strategic relationship between the physical supply of goods and services and the associated financial flows. The book provides a clear introduction, demonstrating the importance of the strategic relationship between supply chain and financial communities within an organization. It contains vital information on how supply chain finance is operationalised and put into place. It is written in a user-friendly style, starting with the purchasing function, and linking together treasury, banking, supply chain, systems, IT, and key stakeholders. Financing the End-to-End Supply Chain will help senior supply chain and procurement practitioners to build collaboration, improve relationships and enhance trust between supply chain partners. With its combination of theory and practice it tackles vital issues including physical, information and financial flows, and tailoring supply chain finance to individual organisations' circumstances. Recognising that supply chain finance means different things in different countries, the authors also consider various initiatives to harmonize and develop cross-border financing from the World Bank and other institutions, as well as including an agenda for national and international policy makers. Financing the End-to-End Supply Chain offers a mix of academic and industrial expertise and is written by three authors who are experts in the field. The book contains ground-breaking research and data from the Cranfield School of Management.
