Book Synopsis New Strategies for the Treatment of Coxsackievirus-induced Myocarditis by : Elizaveta Padalko
Download or read book New Strategies for the Treatment of Coxsackievirus-induced Myocarditis written by Elizaveta Padalko and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a Ph.D. dissertation. Coxsackieviruses B (CBV) are considered to be the principal etiological agent of viral myocarditis. In analogy to many other viral illnesses, both direct viral injury as well as the immune response plays an important role in the pathogenesis of viral heart disease. At the present moment not a single specific therapeutic agent is available for the treatment of CVB-induced myocarditis. The main goal of this work was to explore new strategies for the treatment of viral myocarditis based on the current scientific knowledge about the pathogenesis of this disease.

Download or read book Pet-to-Man Travelling Staphylococci written by Vincenzo Savini and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2018-03-14 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pet-to-Man Travelling Staphylococci: A World in Progress explores Staphylococci, a dangerous pathogen that affects both humans and animals with a wide range of infection states. This bacteria can spread rapidly as a commensal organism in both humans and pets, and is an agent of disease. Staphylococci are potentially highly virulent pathogens which require urgent medical attention. In addition, Staphylococci remain a threat within hospital environments, where they can quickly spread across a patient population. This book explores the organisms' resistance to many compounds used to treat them, treatment failure and multidrug resistant staphylococci, amongst other related topics. Focuses not only on man and animal staphylococcal diseases, but on the role of shared household in man-to-pet (and vice versa) transmission Underlines the importance of professional exposure to mammals (i.e. veterinary and farm personnel) in the establishment of shared colonization's and related diseases Highlights the impact of shared staphylococci and virulence determinants in human and veterinary pathology Sheds light on the way staphylococci may be recognized in clinical laboratories

Download or read book Modulation of Androgen Receptor Activity by P160 Coactivators and a Study of Environmental Contaminants written by Valerie Christiaens and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 2005 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The development, growth and survival of eukaryotic organisms require the proper regulation of tens of thousands of genes. Therefore, a correct temporal and spatial expression of genes is crucial. These expression patterns are controlled by a wide variety of mechanisms, but a major level of gene expression occurs at the transcription initiation process. In this part, the basic mechanisms of eukaryotic gene transcription will be discussed. Contents include: 1) General Introduction, 2) Characterization of the two coactivator interacting surfaces of the androgen receptor and their relative role in transcriptional control, 3) Screening for environmental (anti)androgenic activity, 4) Detection of endocrine disrupting activities in pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls, and 5) General Discussion / Future Perspectives.
