Download or read book Conceptual Design for a Fast Reactor Safety Test Facility. Preliminary Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In May 1975 Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory issued a preliminary report on a study of Fast Reactor Safety Test Facilities. The study addressed itself to three closely related tasks. (1) A review of the current understanding of fast reactor safety with the aim of identifying important areas of uncertainty which cannot be adequately resolved using analysis, out of pile and/or existing in-pile facilities. (2) Conceptual design studies of one or more new in-pile facilities having characteristics identified in (1) above. (3) An examination of advanced data acquisition techniques for possible incorporation in the new facilities. The work reported is an extension of the earlier work in task area (2) above. Based largely on conclusions drawn from the earlier work the scope of the current effort has been narrowed to the design study of a Type A facility operating in the Class III mode, i.e., a facility capable of accommodating up to 37 test pins and capable of imposing a burst on top of a high steady state power level. This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Based on a recommendation from the Technical Working Group on Fast Reactors, this publication is a regular update of previous publications on fast reactor technology. The publication provides comprehensive and detailed information on the technology of fast neutron reactors. The focus is on practical issues that are useful to engineers, scientists, managers, university students and professors. The main issues of discussion are experience in design, construction, operation and decommissioning, various areas of research and development, engineering, safety and national strategies, and public acceptance of fast reactors. In the summary the reader will find national strategies, international initiatives on innovative (i.e. Generation IV) systems and an assessment of public acceptance as related to fast reactors."--Résumé de l'éditeur.

Book Synopsis Improvement and Verification of Fast Reactor Safety Analysis Techniques by :
Download or read book Improvement and Verification of Fast Reactor Safety Analysis Techniques written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An initial analysis of the KIWI-TNT experiment using the VENUS-II disassembly code has been completed. The calculated fission energy release agreed with the experimental value to within about 3 percent. An initial model for analyzing the SNAPTRAN-2 core disassembly experiment was also developed along with an appropriate equation-of-state. The first phase of the VENUS-II/PAD comparison study was completed through the issuing of a preliminary report describing the results. A new technique to calculate a P-V-work curve as a function of the degree of core expansion following a disassembly excursion has been developed. The technique provides results that are consistent with the ANL oxide-fuel equation-of-state in VENUS-II. Evaluation and check-out of this new model are currently in progress. (auth).

Download or read book Fast Fuel Test Reactor - written by and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fast Fuel Test Reactor (FFTR) is a nuclear facility for the purpose of irradiating samples of fuels and structural components for use in fast reactors. The core consists of a plate type element in a square configuration. Beryllium metal between the fuel elements is used to obtain a neutron energy spectrum in the hard intermediate region. Cooling of the core and test specimens is accomplished by means of liquid sodium. The design concept was carried through in sufficient degree in the following areas of preliminary concern: number and size of irradiation facilities, sample power requirements, plant layout to evaluate site requirements, plant and nuclear design parameters to evaluate essential equipment requirements. plant-capital-cost estimate, annual- operating-cost estimate, and estimate of construction time schedule.
