Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary analysis of low-energy ee− collision data produced via initial state radiation (ISR) has been performed using 22 fb−1 of BABAR data. The selection of data samples corresponding to the?+?−,?+?−, K+K−, p{bar p}, K+K−?°, 3?, 4?, 5?, 6?, 7? final states accompanied by the emitted ISR hard photon has been demonstrated. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective collision c.m. energy, and so BABAR ISR data can be compared to the relevant direct e+e− measurements. The resulting distributions are already competitive with DCI and ADONE data in the 1.4-3.0 GeV energy range. In particular, they do not suffer from the relative normalization uncertainties observed for certain reactions when results from different experiments are combined. Eventually, such data may be used to measure the energy dependence of R, the ratio of the e+e− hadrons and e+e− →?+?− cross sections, in the low-energy regime where precise measurements will have an impact on the interpretation of the new (g-2){sub {mu}} measurements.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ee− 2!p{bar p} cross-section is determined over a range of p{bar p} masses, from threshold to 4.5 GeV/c2, by studying the ee− 2!p{bar p}[gamma] process. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 232 fb−1, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring, at an e+e− center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV. The mass dependence of the ratio of electric and magnetic form factors,

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The process ee− -->?+?−?°? has been studied at a center-of-mass energy near the?(4S) resonance using a 89.3 fb−1 data sample collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. From the measured 3? mass spectrum the authors have obtained the products of branching fractions for the? and? mesons, B(? --> e+e−)B(? --> 3?) = (6.70 ± 0.06 ± 0.27) x 10−5 and B(? --> e+e−)B(? --> 3?) = (4.30 ± 0.08 ± 0.21) x 10−5, and evaluated the e+e− -->?+?−?° cross section for the e+e− center-of-mass energy range 1.05 to 3.00 GeV. About 900 e+e− --> J/?? -->?+?−?° events have been selected and the branching fraction B(J/? -->?+?−?°) = (2.18 ± 0.19)% has been measured.

Book Synopsis Inclusive Hadron Production and Two Particle Correlations in Ee− Annihilation at 29 GeV Center-of-mass Energy by :
Download or read book Inclusive Hadron Production and Two Particle Correlations in Ee− Annihilation at 29 GeV Center-of-mass Energy written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied hadron production in ee− annihilation at 29 GeV center-of-mass energy using the PEP-4 Time Projection Chamber Detector. The inclusive cross sections and mean multiplicities for .pi./sup + -/, K/sup + -/ and (p + anti p) production have been measured using ionization energy loss to separate particle species. We find on average 10.7 +- 0.6 .pi./sup + -/, 1.35 +- 13 K/sup + -/ and 0.60 +- 0.08 (p + anti p) per multihadron event. The differential cross section is well described by a number of Monte Carlo hadronization models. In addition, we have observed correlations in rapidity space for identified pions and kaons. Short-range KK correlations provide evidence for local flavor compensation during hadronization. Long-range .pi pi. and KK correlations indicate that the initial partons carry flavor. We also observe significant long-range .pi. K correlations as a result of heavy quark decays. 85 references, 67 figures, 11 tables.
Book Synopsis Glauber Monte-Carlo Study of 200 GeV U+U Collisions at RHIC by : Christopher E. Flores
Download or read book Glauber Monte-Carlo Study of 200 GeV U+U Collisions at RHIC written by Christopher E. Flores and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Collisions of deformed uranium (238U) nuclei are studied using Glauber Monte-Carlo simulations in an effort to elucidate the effects of the non-symmetric rotations of prolate spheroid nucleus geometry and impact parameter. The nucleon density distribution is given by a three parameter Woods-Saxon density function and a Glauber Model is used in a Monte-Carlo simulation of U+U collisions. The number of participant nucleons and number of nucleon-nucleon collisions is determined and compared to the results found for gold using the same model. Simulations of uranium collisions shows that tip to tip U+U collisions increase energy density by 35% while body to body collisions decrease energy density by 10% compared to central Au+Au collisions. It is also shown that a cut on the top 5% of the charged multiplicity density per unit transverse area results in no significant increase or decrease in collision energy density. Finally, plots of predicted Upsilon production values show expected Upsilon production of collisions at various impact parameters and full overlap orientations.

Download or read book Direct Electrons at the CERN ISR. II. A Study of the Transverse Momentum Dependence Above 0.6 GeV/c written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The previously reported observation of direct electrons produced in proton-proton collisions at the CERN ISR was extended to transverse moments, p*/ sub T/, as low as 0.6 GeV/c. The ratio of electron to pion cross sections seems to rise as p*/sub T/ is decreased. It increases by at most a factor of 2 between p*/sub T/ of 2 and 0.6 GeV/c. Results on the s-dependence of this ratio and on correlated charged particles are presented for p*/sub T/ greater than or equal to 1 GeV/c in another work. (auth).
Book Synopsis The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon by : Fred Jegerlehner
Download or read book The Anomalous Magnetic Moment of the Muon written by Fred Jegerlehner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews the present state of knowledge of the anomalous magnetic moment a=(g-2)/2 of the muon. The muon anomalous magnetic moment is one of the most precisely measured quantities in elementary particle physics and provides one of the most stringent tests of relativistic quantum field theory as a fundamental theoretical framework. It allows for an extremely precise check of the standard model of elementary particles and of its limitations.

Central to this new initiative is publication under full open access
Book Synopsis Bayesian Reasoning In Data Analysis: A Critical Introduction by : Giulio D'agostini
Download or read book Bayesian Reasoning In Data Analysis: A Critical Introduction written by Giulio D'agostini and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-06-13 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a multi-level introduction to Bayesian reasoning (as opposed to “conventional statistics”) and its applications to data analysis. The basic ideas of this “new” approach to the quantification of uncertainty are presented using examples from research and everyday life. Applications covered include: parametric inference; combination of results; treatment of uncertainty due to systematic errors and background; comparison of hypotheses; unfolding of experimental distributions; upper/lower bounds in frontier-type measurements. Approximate methods for routine use are derived and are shown often to coincide — under well-defined assumptions! — with “standard” methods, which can therefore be seen as special cases of the more general Bayesian methods. In dealing with uncertainty in measurements, modern metrological ideas are utilized, including the ISO classification of uncertainty into type A and type B. These are shown to fit well into the Bayesian framework.
