Book Synopsis Navigating the Highway to Holiness by : Florence Koleszar
Download or read book Navigating the Highway to Holiness written by Florence Koleszar and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2014-11-24 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WHERE ARE YOU ON THE HIGHWAY TO HOLINESS? Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion - it is a daily process whereby we grow to be more and more like Christ. When we no longer desire to grow and please our Lord, we stifle the work of the Holy Spirit by telling Him to move out from behind the steering wheel and into the back seat; essentially telling Him we are happy to have Him along for the ride, but we want to maintain control of our lives. Christians are only as holy as they want to be. John the Baptist addresses this thought head on when he said, "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30). Here in this short scripture John identifies the main battleground for all Christians - to become more like Christ while simultaneously conquering our sinful nature. The church as a whole has pulled off of the Highway to Holiness into a rest area where we have become comfortable parked under the shade tree of contentment. We have become satisfied with our spiritual growth telling ourselves that, while we are not what we are suppose to be, we are much better than what we use to be before Christ. We have grown weary of battling our own flesh which has extinguished the passion and desire we once had to pursue holiness and righteousness. However, complacency with Christ is the graveyard where Christians go to die. Supported by numerous scriptures, "Navigating the Highway to Holiness" identifies areas within the church that have been weakened by false doctrine and the spirit of compromise, while simultaneously challenging Christians to continually move towards perfection through the power of the Holy Spirit, and by allowing Christ to assume His rightful place on the throne of our hearts.

Book Synopsis Numbers: An Introduction and Study Guide by : Eryl W. Davies
Download or read book Numbers: An Introduction and Study Guide written by Eryl W. Davies and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-12 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Davies outlines the composition and date of Numbers, and the various attempts that have been made to establish a coherent and meaningful structure in its arrangement. Davies also shows how the application of reader-response criticism, feminist criticism and postcolonial criticism have contributed to our understanding of selected passages in the book. Addressing theological issues, Davies considers three themes that occupy much of the content of Numbers, namely; land, purity and holiness, and rebellion. The concluding chapter considers the contentious issue of the historicity of the book of Numbers in the light of recent discussions concerning the historical value of the Old Testament. Davies shows how some of the issues Numbers raises – war, disease, survival, hunger, race relations – are among the perennial problems faced by nations across the centuries and across cultures. While individual passages within Numbers may reflect a questionable sense of morality, Davies demonstrates that the book, when viewed in its totality, encompasses a number of important theological themes which recur throughout the Old Testament: the interplay of forgiveness and judgment, and of sin and punishment, and the need to trust in the power of God rather than human might.

Book Synopsis The Practice of Holiness by : Tony Miano
Download or read book The Practice of Holiness written by Tony Miano and published by . This book was released on 2023-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study guide is written in such a way that it can be used with any unabridged publication of Holiness. Even if you are working through it with a group of people, it is not necessary for everyone in the group to have the same publication of Holiness, so long as everyone's copy is unabridged. If you've already flipped through the pages of this study guide, you immediately noticed it looks a little different than other study guides you may have used. You may have even said to yourself, "Where are the blanks on which to write my answers?"Well, there are none. You're welcome to write in this study guide, if you like. It's yours, after all. But there isn't enough room for you to do all the work. That's also intentional. For this study, you are going to need a notebook or a journal or your computer (if you prefer typing). You will likely not find a single question that will allow for a one word, yes or no-type answer. In The Practice of Holiness, I don't want you to simply go find information in Ryle's book and transpose it onto an empty blank on a page. The goal isn't to pass a test or write a book report. I don't want you to regurgitate information. I want you to think.
