Book Synopsis The Hydrogen Economy by : National Academy of Engineering
Download or read book The Hydrogen Economy written by National Academy of Engineering and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-09-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The announcement of a hydrogen fuel initiative in the President's 2003 State of the Union speech substantially increased interest in the potential for hydrogen to play a major role in the nation's long-term energy future. Prior to that event, DOE asked the National Research Council to examine key technical issues about the hydrogen economy to assist in the development of its hydrogen R&D program. Included in the assessment were the current state of technology; future cost estimates; CO2 emissions; distribution, storage, and end use considerations; and the DOE RD&D program. The report provides an assessment of hydrogen as a fuel in the nation's future energy economy and describes a number of important challenges that must be overcome if it is to make a major energy contribution. Topics covered include the hydrogen end-use technologies, transportation, hydrogen production technologies, and transition issues for hydrogen in vehicles.

Book Synopsis A Solar—Hydrogen Energy System by : E.W. Justi
Download or read book A Solar—Hydrogen Energy System written by E.W. Justi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns one of the more persistent of the ideas that have been discussed in journals devoted to energy science during the last few years. It deals with the concept that hydrogen should be the medium of energy and the sun should be the source (and, in the interim, perhaps also coal, biomass, or nuclear fuel). The translation has been carried out by Dr. W. Schuh and Mrs. K. Claus in collaboration with me. Certain difficulties confronted us at an early stage, and our resolution of them requires some explanation. First, the chapters that we received from the original German authors were written at varying times during the 1980s. Some years later, for the anticipated publication in the United States, about half of the chapters were completely rewritten. The translation was done in 1984-1986. Second, the original volume is a German book. Most of the examples in it refer to the Federal Republic of Germany, although some extend to Europe in general.

Book Synopsis Solar-Hydrogen Energy Systems by : Tokio Ohta
Download or read book Solar-Hydrogen Energy Systems written by Tokio Ohta and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solar-Hydrogen Energy Systems is a collection of papers that discusses the advancements in the research of alternative energy technologies that utilizes solar-hydrogen energy systems. The text first introduces the concept of solar-hydrogen energy system, and then proceeds to covering the technical topics in the subsequent chapters. The next chapters talks about the thermodynamics of water-splitting and water electrolysis. Next, the selection details direct thermal decomposition of water. The selection also discusses different processes to produce hydrogen, such as thermochemical, photochemical, and biochemical. The ninth chapter talks about solar energy storage by metal hydride, and the last chapter deals with direct solar energy conversion at sea. The book will be of great interest to scientists, engineers, and technicians involved in the research, development, and implementation of alternative energy technology.

Book Synopsis Advances in Cryogenic Engineering by : K. Timmerhaus
Download or read book Advances in Cryogenic Engineering written by K. Timmerhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 1973 marked the first time that Atlanta, one of the cultural centers of the South, has hosted the Cryogenic Engineering Conference since its beginning in 1954. The Cryogenic Engineering Conference gratefully acknowledges the hospital ity of the Georgia Institute of Technology and the assistance of W. T. Ziegler and his staff in making the visit to Atlanta a pleasant and memorable one. Several significant changes were initiated at the 1973 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. These included a Conference theme on the subject of "Energy and the Environment," a new Conference format, and the beginning of a new Conference frequency of biennial meetings. While retaining the traditional topics of previous meetings, the 1973 Cryogenic Engineering Conference focused on the role of cryo genic engineering in the generation, distribution, and conversion of energy, and the related environmental effects. In these areas, much of the current interest stems from the environmental effects of LNG and liquid hydrogen as compared with other competing energy forms. These rapidly expanding areas may provide the impetus to cryogenic engineering in the 1970's that the space program provided in the 1960's. The Conference format was altered by the use of numerous invited papers highlighting the theme. These presentations were concentrated in plenary sessions initiating each day's activities, and in seminars designed to summarize the various aspects of the theme.
