Book Synopsis Algebras and Orders by : Ivo G. Rosenberg
Download or read book Algebras and Orders written by Ivo G. Rosenberg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the summer of 1991 the Department of Mathematics and Statistics of the Universite de Montreal was fortunate to host the NATO Advanced Study Institute "Algebras and Orders" as its 30th Seminaire de mathematiques superieures (SMS), a summer school with a long tradition and well-established reputation. This book contains the contributions of the invited speakers. Universal algebra- which established itself only in the 1930's- grew from traditional algebra (e.g., groups, modules, rings and lattices) and logic (e.g., propositional calculus, model theory and the theory of relations). It started by extending results from these fields but by now it is a well-established and dynamic discipline in its own right. One of the objectives of the ASI was to cover a broad spectrum of topics in this field, and to put in evidence the natural links to, and interactions with, boolean algebra, lattice theory, topology, graphs, relations, automata, theoretical computer science and (partial) orders. The theory of orders is a relatively young and vigorous discipline sharing certain topics as well as many researchers and meetings with universal algebra and lattice theory. W. Taylor surveyed the abstract clone theory which formalizes the process of compos ing operations (i.e., the formation of term operations) of an algebra as a special category with countably many objects, and leading naturally to the interpretation and equivalence of varieties.

Taylor, and G. Wenzel) and a well selected additional bibliography of over 1250 papers and books which makes this an indispensable new edition for students, faculty, and workers in the field.

Book Synopsis Algebras, Lattices, Varieties by : Ralph S. Freese
Download or read book Algebras, Lattices, Varieties written by Ralph S. Freese and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the third of a three-volume set of books on the theory of algebras, a study that provides a consistent framework for understanding algebraic systems, including groups, rings, modules, semigroups and lattices. Volume I, first published in the 1980s, built the foundations of the theory and is considered to be a classic in this field. The long-awaited volumes II and III are now available. Taken together, the three volumes provide a comprehensive picture of the state of art in general algebra today, and serve as a valuable resource for anyone working in the general theory of algebraic systems or in related fields. The two new volumes are arranged around six themes first introduced in Volume I. Volume II covers the Classification of Varieties, Equational Logic, and Rudiments of Model Theory, and Volume III covers Finite Algebras and their Clones, Abstract Clone Theory, and the Commutator. These topics are presented in six chapters with independent expositions, but are linked by themes and motifs that run through all three volumes.

Book Synopsis A Guide to the Literature on Semirings and their Applications in Mathematics and Information Sciences by : K. Glazek
Download or read book A Guide to the Literature on Semirings and their Applications in Mathematics and Information Sciences written by K. Glazek and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a short guide to the extensive literature concerning semir ings along with a complete bibliography. The literature has been created over many years, in variety of languages, by authors representing different schools of mathematics and working in various related fields. In many instances the terminology used is not universal, which further compounds the difficulty of locating pertinent sources even in this age of the Internet and electronic dis semination of research results. So far there has been no single reference that could guide the interested scholar or student to the relevant publications. This book is an attempt to fill this gap. My interest in the theory of semirings began in the early sixties, when to gether with Bogdan W ~glorz I tried to investigate some algebraic aspects of compactifications of topological spaces, semirings of semicontinuous functions, and the general ideal theory for special semirings. (Unfortunately, local alge braists in Poland told me at that time that there was nothing interesting in investigating semiring theory because ring theory was still being developed). However, some time later we became aware of some similar investigations hav ing already been done. The theory of semirings has remained "my first love" ever since, and I have been interested in the results in this field that have been appearing in literature (even though I have not been active in this area myself).

Book Synopsis Mathematics, Logic, and their Philosophies by : Mojtaba Mojtahedi
Download or read book Mathematics, Logic, and their Philosophies written by Mojtaba Mojtahedi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-09 with total page 493 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of essays in honour of Professor Mohammad Ardeshir. It examines topics which, in one way or another, are connected to the various aspects of his multidisciplinary research interests. Based on this criterion, the book is divided into three general categories. The first category includes papers on non-classical logics, including intuitionistic logic, constructive logic, basic logic, and substructural logic. The second category is made up of papers discussing issues in the contemporary philosophy of mathematics and logic. The third category contains papers on Avicenna’s logic and philosophy. Mohammad Ardeshir is a full professor of mathematical logic at the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, where he has taught generations of students for around a quarter century. Mohammad Ardeshir is known in the first place for his prominent works in basic logic and constructive mathematics. His areas of interest are however much broader and include topics in intuitionistic philosophy of mathematics and Arabic philosophy of logic and mathematics. In addition to numerous research articles in leading international journals, Ardeshir is the author of a highly praised Persian textbook in mathematical logic. Partly through his writings and translations, the school of mathematical intuitionism was introduced to the Iranian academic community.

Book Synopsis Polynomial Completeness in Algebraic Systems by : Kalle Kaarli
Download or read book Polynomial Completeness in Algebraic Systems written by Kalle Kaarli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-07-21 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of polynomial completeness of algebraic systems has only recently matured, and until now, lacked a unified treatment. Polynomial Completeness in Algebraic Systems examines the entire field with one coherent approach. The authors focus on the theory of affine complete varieties but also give the primary known results on affine completeness in special varieties. The book includes an extensive introductory chapter that provides the necessary background and makes the results accessible to graduate students as well as researchers. Numerous exercises illustrate the theory, and examples-and counterexamples-clarify the boundaries of the subject.
Book Synopsis Decidability and Boolean Representations by : Stanley Burris
Download or read book Decidability and Boolean Representations written by Stanley Burris and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1981 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In part I we address the question: which varieties have a decidable first order theory? We confine our attention to varieties whose algebras have modular congruence lattices (i.e., modular varieties), and focus primarily on locally finite varieties, although near the end of the paper Zamjatin's description of all decidable varieties of groups and rings, and offer a new proof of it. In part II, we show that if a variety admits such sheaf representations using only finitely many stalks, all of which are finite, then the variety can be decomposed in the product of a discriminator variety and an abelian variety. We continue this investigation by looking at well-known specializations of the sheaf construction, namely Boolean powers and sub-Boolean powers, giving special emphasis to quasi-primal algebras A, such that the sub-Boolean powers of A form a variety (this extends the work of Arens and Kaplansky on finite fields).
