Book Synopsis Structures, Properties, and Dynamics of Metal Clusters from Infrared Laser Spectroscopy by : Richard J. Saykally
Download or read book Structures, Properties, and Dynamics of Metal Clusters from Infrared Laser Spectroscopy written by Richard J. Saykally and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two new types of infrared spectrometers have been developed for the study of gas-phase cluster species. A tunable far-infrared (FIR) laser was combined with an apparatus for producing planar supersonic beams of laser vaporized clusters, and used in the measurement of the 64.1 cm-1 bending vibration of c sub 3. A mid-IR diode laser system was constructed with a similar cluster source, and used in studies of the C sub 4, C sub 5, C sub 7, and C sub 9 clusters. Structures and internal dynamics of the clusters were determined. Extensions to metal cluster systems are currently underway. A new type of spectrometer was developed for measuring electronic spectra of supersonic metal clusters. Cavity Ringdown Laser Absorption Spectroscopy (CRLAS) was utilized in a study of the Cu sub 3 cluster in the initial application of the method.

Download or read book Metal Clusters at Surfaces written by Karl-Heinz Meiwes-Broer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the interaction with the contact medium, the properties of clusters may change or even disappear. Thus the physics of cluster-on-surface systems -- the main subject of this book -- is of fundamental importance. The book addresses a wide audience, from the newcomer to the expert. Starting from fundamental concepts of adsorbate-surface interactions, the modification of electronic properties through electron confinement, and concepts of cluster production, it elucidates the distinct properties of the new metallic nanostructures.

Download or read book Progress in Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Clusters written by Tamotsu Kondow and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The cluster which is an ensemble of two thousands of atoms or molecules, has emerged as a completely new class of materials at the frontier of materials science. The frontier of cluster science extends so rapidly that the map of the science is renewed day by day. In order to provide basic knowledge and recent information on this growing field, 14 world-renowned scientists who are actively involved experimentally and theoretically in cluster science have written this book, which is concise, comprehensive, suitable for students at both the undergraduate and the graduate level, as well as people who work outside cluster science. Contents: Survey of Structure, Energetics and Dynamics of Clusters (R S Berry & R D Levine); Molecular and Ionic Cluster Spectroscopy (J M Lisy); Physical and Chemical Properties of Metal Clusters in the Gas Phase and on Solid Surfaces (A Terasaki); Femtosecond Spectroscopy on Metal Clusters (a Vajda et al.); Core Level Excitation of Clusters (E Rhl); Laboratory Experiments on Single Levitated Aerosol Particles (T Leisner); Cluster Formation from Liquid Phase (F Mafun(r)). Readership: Researchers in atomic physics, molecular physics and physical chemistry."
Book Synopsis Structure and Properties of Atomic Nanoclusters by : Julio A. Alonso
Download or read book Structure and Properties of Atomic Nanoclusters written by Julio A. Alonso and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2012 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atomic clusters are aggregates of atoms containing a few to several thousand atoms. Due to the small size of these pieces of matter, the properties of atomic clusters in general are different from those of the corresponding material in the macroscopic bulk phase. This monograph presents the main developments of atomic clusters and the current status of the field. The book treats different types of clusters with very different properties: clusters in which the atoms or molecules are tied by weak van der Waals interactions, metallic clusters, clusters of ionic materials, and network clusters made of typical covalent elements. It includes methods of experimental cluster synthesis as well as the structural, electronic, thermodynamic and magnetic properties of clusters, covering both experiments and the theoretical work that has led to our present understanding of the different properties of clusters. The question of assembling nanoclusters to form solids with new properties is also considered. Having an adequate knowledge of the properties of clusters can be of great help to any scientist working with objects of nanometric size. On the other hand, nanoclusters are themselves potentially important in fields like catalysis and nanomedicine.
Book Synopsis Structure and Dynamics in Metal-Containing Clusters by :
Download or read book Structure and Dynamics in Metal-Containing Clusters written by and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gas phase clusters were produced composed of a metal ion bound to one or more molecular "ligands" (e.g., water, nitrogen, acetylene, methanol, etc.). These gas phase complexes were studied with mass-selected laser photodissociation spectroscopy and laser photoelectron spectroscopy (ZEKE) . These studies determine the structures and energetics of these clusters and they probe the dynamics of nascent solvation processes. Other metal clusters and metal-organic complexes were produced in the gas phase and evaluated for their potential for isolation in macroscopic quantities. Mass spectrometry and laser photodissociation measurements were employed for metal carbides, metal-C60 complexes and complexes of metal with polyaromatic hydrocarbons. These studies provide detailed experimental data which can be compared to theory to improve the overall understanding of metal-molecular interactions.

Book Synopsis Metal Clusters and Their Reactivity by : Zhixun Luo
Download or read book Metal Clusters and Their Reactivity written by Zhixun Luo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-10-31 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses current techniques and instrumentation for cluster chemistry. It addresses both the experimental and theoretical aspects of gas-phase metal cluster reactivities, especially those pertaining to pollution removal, energetic reactions and corrosion and anticorrosion. These metal cluster systems have attracted enormous interest as they display a completely new class of physical, chemical, electronic, magnetic and catalytic properties. As these properties change with size and composition, it can thus be understood how their nature evolves from atoms to bulk solids. The book offers readers a basic understanding of the structural chemistry and reactivity of metal clusters in both gas-phase and wet chemistry. Further, the lessons they learn here regarding metal cluster chemistry will prepare researchers for the study of condensed phase dynamics that pertain to wet chemical synthesis, soft-landing deposition and cluster assembly.
