Book Synopsis Theoretical Study on Graphite and Lithium Metal as Anode Materials for Next-Generation Rechargeable Batteries by : Gabin Yoon
Download or read book Theoretical Study on Graphite and Lithium Metal as Anode Materials for Next-Generation Rechargeable Batteries written by Gabin Yoon and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-08 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis describes in-depth theoretical efforts to understand the reaction mechanism of graphite and lithium metal as anodes for next-generation rechargeable batteries. The first part deals with Na intercalation chemistry in graphite, whose understanding is crucial for utilizing graphite as an anode for Na-ion batteries. The author demonstrates that Na ion intercalation in graphite is thermodynamically unstable because of the unfavorable Na-graphene interaction. To address this issue, the inclusion of screening moieties, such as solvents, is suggested and proven to enable reversible Na-solvent cointercalation in graphite. Furthermore, the author provides the correlation between the intercalation behavior and the properties of solvents, suggesting a general strategy to tailor the electrochemical intercalation chemistry. The second part addresses the Li dendrite growth issue, which is preventing practical application of Li metal anodes. A continuum mechanics study considering various experimental conditions reveals the origins of irregular growth of Li metal. The findings provide crucial clues for developing effective counter strategies to control the Li metal growth, which will advance the application of high-energy-density Li metal anodes.

Book Synopsis Lithium Batteries by : Gianfranco Pistoia
Download or read book Lithium Batteries written by Gianfranco Pistoia and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1994 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. Research in the area of lithium batteries has been quite eventful in the past few years. Some examples of recent achievements in the field are: the substitution of the Li anode with Li+-inserting carbonaceous materials, the discovery of polymer electrolytes with liquid-like conductivities at, or below, room temperature and the introduction of new oxide-based cathode materials with enhanced cyclability and energy density. This book aims at providing a factual and updated review of all new concepts which are emerging in research leading to the realization of commercial lithium batteries. An adequate balance of fundamental and applied research work is presented.A detailed description is given of systems ranging from thin-film, integrable batteries for microelectronics to high power, large batteries for industrial applications. Problem areas such as cost, safety and reliability are considered. The book will be of interest to materials

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accurate determination of the structure of molecular systems provides information about the consequences of weak interactions both within and between molecules. These consequences impact the properties of the materials and the behaviour in interactions with other substances. The book presents modern experimental and computational techniques for the determination of molecular structure. It also highlights applications ranging from the simplest molecules to DNA and industrially significant materials. Readership: Graduate students and researchers in structural chemistry, computational chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, crystallography, supramolecular chemistry, solid state chemistry and physics, and materials science.

Book Synopsis Intercalation Chemistry by : Stanley M Whittingha
Download or read book Intercalation Chemistry written by Stanley M Whittingha and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 614 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercalation Chemistry introduces the specialist reader to the breadth of intercalation chemistry and the newcomer to the diverse research opportunities and challenges available in synthetic and reaction chemistry and also in the controlled modification of physical properties. Topics covered range from graphite chemistry to sheet silicate intercalates, diffusion and shape-selective catalysis in zeolites, organic and organometallic intercalation compounds of the transition metal dichalcogenides, and solvated intercalation compounds of layered chalcogenide and oxide bronzes. This book is comprised of 18 chapters and begins with an introduction to intercalation chemistry. The discussions that follow focus on the intercalation chemistry of graphite and of complex oxides with both two (clays and acid phosphates)- and three (zeolites)-dimensional structures, along with organic conversions that have been discovered using essentially smectite (i.e., montmorillonite- and hectorite-based) intercalates. The next chapters focus on ß-aluminas, acid salts of tetravalent metals with layered structure, and layered chalcogenides and halides with simple and hydrated cations as well as organic and organometallic ions. The book also considers the chemistry, thermodynamics, and applications of intermetallic compounds that incorporate hydrogen, intercalation in the context of biological systems, crystallographic shear structures, and intercalation reactions of oxides and chalcogenides of vanadium, molybdenum, and tungsten. The final chapter touches on the physical properties of some intercalation compounds of the dichalcogenides. This book is intended for researchers in the various materials science disciplines.
