Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years the development of the NMR method has been closely linked to the creation of the theory of the NMR in solids and with the elaboration on their basic principles and methods of high resolution in solids. The aim of this volume is to explain simply and clearly the principles for the understanding of the NMR in solid polymers, to show what kind of information can be gained using NMR investigations of bulk polymers, and to demonstrate the ways of obtaining this information, their correctness and their place in comparison with other methods. The discussion is restricted to the most important and typical nuclei 1H, 13C, and (briefly) 2D, and, in connection with that, to the dipolar and quadrupolar interaction and to the chemical shift.

Book excerpt: Since the introduction of FT-NMR spectroscopy around five decades ago, NMR has achieved significant advances in hardware and methodologies, accompanied with the enhancement of spectral resolution and signal sensitivity. Rapid developments in the polymers field mean that accurate and quantitative characterization of polymer structures and dynamics is the keystone for precisely regulating and controlling the physical and chemical properties of the polymer. This book specifically focuses on NMR investigation of complex polymers for the polymer community as well as NMR spectroscopists, and will push the development of both fields. It covers the latest advances, for example high field DNP and ultrafast MAS methodologies, and show how these novel NMR methods characterize various synthetic and natural polymers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This work consists of two topics. The first part deals with deuterium nuclear magnetic resonance (2H NMR) study of bulk and adsorbed polymers. Segmental dynamics of poly(methyl acrylate) is examined in bulk and when adsorbed to anopore, alumina and silica as a function of temperature. The second part investigates diffusion of small molecules in polymer solutions by pulsed field-gradient proton nuclear magnetic resonance (PGSE 1H NMR). The diffusion of solvents in polymer solutions is investigated. The diffusion of N-N, dimethylformamide in polystyrene is studied as a function of concentration and temperature. The diffusion coefficients of solvents in binary solvent mixtures of methylene chloride/toluene and chloroform/acetonitrile in poly(methyl methacrylate) solutions as functions of concentration are also reported"--Introduction, leaf 1.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R.N.IBBETT This book provides a source of information on all major aspects of NMR spectroscopy of synthetic polymers. It represents a deliberate attempt to pull together the numerous strands of the subject in a single comprehensive volume, designed to be readable at every scientific level. It is intended that the book will be of use to the vast majority of polymer scientists and NMR spec troscopists alike. Readers new to NMR will find extensive information within the book on the available techniques, allowing full exploration of the many polymer science applications. Readers already established within a branch of NMR will find the book an excellent guide to the practical study of polymers and the inter pretation of experimental data. Readers who have specialised in polymer NMR will find the book a valuable dictionary of proven methodologies, as well as a guide to the very latest developments in the subject. Workers from all of the main branches of polymer NMR have been invited to contribute. Each chapter therefore contains information relating to a parti cular investigative topic, indentified mainly on the basis of technique. The book is loosely divided between solution and solid-state domains, although the numerous interconnections confirm that these two domains are parts of the same continuum. Basic principles are explained within each chapter, combined with discussions of experimental theory and applications. Examples of polymer investigations are covered generously and in many chapters there are discussions of the most recent theoretical and experimental developments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the time since this book was written, the application of NMR in the study of polymers has continued to develop rapidly. The main trends of the work have remained as before, namely, the study of the structure of polymers, molecular motion in them, and chemical conversions of high-molecular-weight substances. How ever, as a result of the refinement of experimental techniques and development of the theory, new progress has been achieved, par ticularly in the NMR spectroscopy of polymer solutions. We therefore decided that it was worthwhile to provide an ad ditionallist of literature, covering papers published in 1965, 1966, and the beginning of 1967. By using the bibliographic directory appended to the list, the reader can readily find references to the latest literature for all sections of the book. I. Ya. Slonim A. N. Lyubimov v Preface to the Russian Edition The aim of this book is mainly to answer the questions which inevitably arise for a chemist who wishes to use NMR in his work on polymers.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid-State NMR is a branch of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance which is presently experiencing a phase of strongly increasing popularity. The most striking evidence is the large number of contributions from Solid-State Resonance at NMR meetings, approaching that ofliquid state resonance. Important progress can be observed in the areas of methodological developments and applications to organic and inorganic matter. One volume devoted to more or less one of each of these areas has been published in the preceding three issues. This volume can be considered an addendum to this series. Selected methods and applications of Solid-State NMR are featured in three chapters. The first one treats the recoupling of dipolar interactions in solids, which are averaged by fast sample rotation. Following an introduction to effective Hamiltonians and Floquet theory, different types of experiment such as rotary resonance, dipolar chemical shift correlation spectroscopy, rotational resonance and multipulse recoupling are treated in the powerful Floquet formalism. In the second chapter, the different approaches to line narrowing of quadrupolar nuclei are reviewed in a. consistent formulation of double resonance (DaR) and dynamic angle spinning (DAS). Practical aspects of probe design are considered as well as advanced 2D experiments, sensitivity enhancement techniques, and spinning sideband manipulations. The use of such techniques dramatically increases the number of nuclei which can be probed in high resolution NMR spectroscopy. The final chapter describes new experimental approaches and results of structural studies of noncrystalline solids.
