Book Synopsis Airmen and air theory a review of the sources by : Phillip S. Meilinger
Download or read book Airmen and air theory a review of the sources written by Phillip S. Meilinger and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2001 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This part of the book reviews the state of American airpower biography and autobiography. I have set certain parameters to define the boundaries of my discussion. I discuss biographies and autobiographies, anthologies, and oral histories of military officers who served in senior positions. Thus, although the stories of great aviators like Eddie Rickenbacker, Charles Lindbergh, and Chuck Yeager are important, those men did not command large forces either in combat or in peace; they had only a temporary effect on the development of strategy and doctrine. Similarly excluded are civilian political leaders and industrialists like Stuart Symington and Donald Douglas, even though they played key roles In their own spheres. What follows are the stories, some published, some not of America's greatest military airmen-some told by themselves, others by biographers. The order of presentation is roughly chronological, according to the time during which these men served. The fact that a surprising number of air luminaries do not appear here means that much work remains to be done.

Written by Henry Kissinger, one of the foremost experts on foreign policy, this book provides a comprehensive examination of the role of nuclear weapons in shaping international relations. First published in 1957, this book remains as relevant today as it was when it was first written. In it, Kissinger offers a clear-eyed and insightful analysis of the strategic calculations and geopolitical realities that have driven the development and deployment of nuclear weapons. Drawing on his extensive experience as a scholar and policymaker, Kissinger provides a detailed examination of the ways in which nuclear weapons have influenced the behaviour of states and shaped the course of world events. He explores the complex relationships between nuclear powers, the dangers of nuclear proliferation, and the potential for nuclear war. Throughout this book, Kissinger argues that a deeper understanding of the strategic dynamics of nuclear weapons is essential to the development of effective foreign policy. He contends that a careful consideration of the risks and benefits of nuclear weapons is essential for policymakers to make informed decisions that promote peace and security. With its seminal analysis and penetrating insights, Nuclear Weapons and Foreign Policy is an essential read for anyone interested in the intersection of nuclear weapons and international relations. It is a valuable resource for scholars, students, policymakers, and anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of this critical issue.

Download or read book Human Rights at the UN written by Roger Normand and published by Indiana University Press. This book was released on 2008-01-09 with total page 528 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Human rights activists Roger Normand and Sarah Zaidi provide a broad political history of the emergence and development of the human rights movement in the 20th century through the crucible of the United Nations, focusing on the hopes and expectations, concrete power struggles, national rivalries, and bureaucratic politics that molded the international system of human rights law. The book emphasizes the period before and after the creation of the UN, when human rights ideas and proposals were shaped and transformed by the hard-edged realities of power politics and bureaucratic imperatives. It also analyzes the expansion of the human rights framework in response to demands for equitable development after decolonization and organized efforts by women, minorities, and other disadvantaged groups to secure international recognition of their rights.

Book Synopsis The Japanese Navy in World War II by : David C. Evans
Download or read book The Japanese Navy in World War II written by David C. Evans and published by Naval Institute Press. This book was released on 2017-02-15 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1986 and lauded by historians and World War II buffs eager for the Japanese viewpoint, this collection of essays makes significant contributions to the field of World War II literature. In it, top-ranking Japanese officers offer their personal perspectives of the Pacific War. This second edition adds five articles to the original twelve to present a full picture of the Japanese navy’s role in the war. Most of these moving accounts were written in the 1950s and retain the immediacy felt by the writers when they participated in the events. They provide valuable information on the strategy, tactics, and operations of the Japanese fleet, as well as insights into the personalities and motives of its leaders. Here, Vice Admiral Shigeru Fukudome comes to grips with allegations that the assault on Pearl Harbor represented strategic folly, political blundering, and tactical stupidity. Captain Mitsuo Fuchida describes how his bombing group unleashed “devils of doom” on Battleship Row, and Mitsuru Yoshida gives an eye-witness account of the sinking of the famous battleship Yamato. The new contributions to the volume discuss operations in the Indian Ocean, the battle of the Philippine Sea, the protection of merchant shipping, submarine warfare, and Japan’s overall naval strategy.
