Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six were taken. Eleven years later, five come back--with no idea of where they've been. A riveting mystery for fans of We Were Liars. Eleven years ago, six kindergartners went missing without a trace. After all that time, the people left behind moved on, or tried to. Until today. Today five of those kids return. They're sixteen, and they are . . . fine. Scarlett comes home and finds a mom she barely recognizes, and doesn't really recognize the person she's supposed to be, either. But she thinks she remembers Lucas. Lucas remembers Scarlett, too, except they're entirely unable to recall where they've been or what happened to them. Neither of them remember the sixth victim, Max--the only one who hasn't come back. Which leaves Max's sister, Avery, wanting answers. She wants to find her brother--dead or alive--and isn't buying this whole memory-loss story. But as details of the disappearance begin to unfold, no one is prepared for the truth. This unforgettable novel--with its rich characters, high stakes, and plot twists--will leave readers breathless.
Book Synopsis Hollywood and Africa by : Opio Dokotum
Download or read book Hollywood and Africa written by Opio Dokotum and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hollywood and Africa - recycling the Dark Continent myth from 19082020 is a study of over a century of stereotypical Hollywood film productions about Africa. It argues that the myth of the Dark Continent continues to influence Western cultural productions about Africa as a cognitive-based system of knowledge, especially in history, literature and film. Hollywood and Africa identifies the colonial mastertext of the Dark Continent mythos by providing a historiographic genealogy and context for the terms development and consolidation. An array of literary and paraliterary film adaptation theories are employed to analyse the deep genetic strands of HollywoodAfrica film adaptations. The mutations of the Dark Continent mythos across time and space are then tracked through the classical, neoclassical and new wave HollywoodAfrica phases in order to illustrate how Hollywood productions about Africa recycle, revise, reframe, reinforce, transpose, interrogate and even critique these tropes of Darkest Africa while sustaining the colonial mastertext and rising cyberactivism against Hollywoods whitewashing of African history.

Well, one thing is for sure, he'll have to be creative. Like, if you want to keep your heart from breaking, just make sure it's well padded and protected by tying a pillow around your chest. Want to keep your hands attached? Simple-stick them on with gloves and lots of glue. Just be careful not to laugh your head off!

This book was released on 2012-08-07 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Imagination. It’s an innate quality that every child seems to possess in immeasurable quantities. Imagination allows children to create wonderful worlds in which to relate to their friends, envision their futures, and, of course, play with their toys. More often than not, imagination is a quality that diminishes with age, as fantasy worlds are replaced by “the real world” and inquiring young minds are forced to grow up. But there are those among us, who, like Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, never stop using their imaginations, envisioning their futures, and, most importantly in this context, playing with their toys. A select group of these individuals—and their unfettered imaginations—are the reason that the Toy Story films came to be. The Toy Story Films: An Animated Journey tells the tale of the incredibly talented visionaries who conceived, developed, and ultimately shared Woody, Buzz, and the rest of Andy’s toys with the entire world. Their story is recounted within these pages through candid interviews with the animators, directors, and voice actors who brought the films to life; artwork that inspired, grew into, or became a part of the iconic movies; and untold details of the growth and development of one of the most lucrative and artistically significant film series ever. It serves as a lesson to us all that we are never too old to use our imagination—and play with our toys.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Amusement park rides are the ultimate battleground in this Locus Award–winning dystopian sci-fi novel by the acclaimed author of Little Brother. In the near-future world of the Bitchun Society, scarcity is a thing of the past, death has been conquered, and a constant internal interface allows everyone to monitor their ultimate pursuit: the esteem of others. At barely a century old, Jules is still a young man when he realizes his dream of living and working at Disney World. He devotes himself to keeping the classic attractions intact, with only minor adjustments to their original twentieth-century designs. But when the Hall of Presidents is overtaken by a rival group, the old animatronic designs are replaced with a new, direct-to-brain immersive experience. For Jules, this assault on the artistic purity of Disney World cannot stand. And it only upsets him more when someone has him killed. After rebooting in a new body, Jules is ready for war. “A black-comedic sci-fi prophecy on the dangers of surrendering our consensual hallucination to the regime. Fun to read, but difficult to sleep afterwards.” —Douglas Rushkoff, author of Cyberia
Book Synopsis The Final One Eighty by : Dennis Donoghue
Download or read book The Final One Eighty written by Dennis Donoghue and published by . This book was released on 2020-04-27 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Final One Eighty, a day-by-day account of author's last year as a sixth-grade teacher. The memoir reveals what it's like to teach in a public school these days, highlighting conflicts, frustrations, and successes with humor and introspection, all from the point of view of someone who'd been at it for 37 years. Each of the 180 days is a stand-alone chapter, an essay really, with a particular anecdote examined to reveal a deeper significance. Written after a full career of over three and a half decades, its perspective differs vastly from typical teacher memoirs which tend to document the first year (or else are authored by journalists who teach for the purpose of producing a memoir about the experience). Certainly, new, and veteran teachers would see themselves reflected in this work. And since most people have attended public schools and send their kids to them, they would also find it appealing, as it provides an intimate look at daily maneuverings of not only the teacher but everyone around him-- students, colleagues, administrators and parents. Dennis Donoghue retired as an elementary school teacher in 2014. His work had appeared in various journals, magazines, and anthologies, including Blue Lake Review, Brandeis Review, Broad River Review, Full Circle Review, and Georgetown Review. He lives in Massachusetts.
