Book Synopsis Urban Stormwater Management in the United States by : National Research Council
Download or read book Urban Stormwater Management in the United States written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2009-03-17 with total page 611 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rapid conversion of land to urban and suburban areas has profoundly altered how water flows during and following storm events, putting higher volumes of water and more pollutants into the nation's rivers, lakes, and estuaries. These changes have degraded water quality and habitat in virtually every urban stream system. The Clean Water Act regulatory framework for addressing sewage and industrial wastes is not well suited to the more difficult problem of stormwater discharges. This book calls for an entirely new permitting structure that would put authority and accountability for stormwater discharges at the municipal level. A number of additional actions, such as conserving natural areas, reducing hard surface cover (e.g., roads and parking lots), and retrofitting urban areas with features that hold and treat stormwater, are recommended.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential addition to the landscape design library Nature devises ingenious systems for the management and delivery of water in all its phases. No additional infrastructure is required—the water systems are in place, naturally. But once the natural environment has been disrupted by human development, stormwater becomes an issue that requires intervention and ongoing management. Sustainable Stormwater Management, by leading expert Tom Liptan, provides landscape students and professionals with a green approach to landscape design. The hardworking book includes comprehensive information on how to design, install, and maintain a landscape for sustainable stormwater management. It addresses stormwater in the urban environment, relevant environmental and economic policies, and shares case studies of exemplary projects from around the world.

Book Synopsis Development and Application of a Simplified Stormwater Management Model by : John A. Lager
Download or read book Development and Application of a Simplified Stormwater Management Model written by John A. Lager and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simplified stormwater management model has been created to provide an inexpensive, flexible tool for planning and preliminary sizing of stormwater facilities. The model delineates a methodology to be used in the management of stormwater and consists of a series of interrelated tasks that combine small computer programs and hand computations. The model successfully introduces time and probability into stormwater analysis, promotes total system consciousness on the part of the user, and assists in establishing size-effectiveness relationships for facilities.
