Everyone who survived that time was hidden away in the bowels of the earth, or so it was believed. Disease, famine, and evil men forced those buried under the great mountain out into a new world. Men carry swords, drive wagons, ride horses, and live a life free of all the things that created the great desolation. Seeking Power Darius the Conqueror overthrew King Franklin and put his family to the sword. Tareate was wounded but escaped, as did a few others, and there was a rumor of the survival of a rightful heir to the throne. It's been twenty years since that evil act. A sword maker, a magician, and a thief found themselves all condemned by King Rinus of Sareno. They escaped his prison and stumbled onto a quest forged by fate for just those three. Plagued by demons, evil, and injustice, they form the L?Chaim Covenant, a pledge of life to one another and perhaps to their whole world, too.

Each poem is a stone from the river of life that Hashem has directed me to be a remembrance of the wonderful and great things He has done for me. I don't consider myself to know more than others, or to be more enlightened, I am still a vessel in His great hands, learning and practicing what He directs me into. I pray that somewhere in these covers there is a blessing for you the reader and in that blessing you will give all honor and glory to our L-rd and Savior Yeshua.

Book excerpt: The bold, bright colors of India leap off the page in this picture book retelling of how Ganesha helped write the epic Hindu poem, the Mahabharata. Ganesha is just like any other kid, except that he has the head of an elephant and rides around on a magical mouse. And he loves sweets, but when Ganesha insists on biting into a super jumbo jawbreaker laddoo, his tusk breaks off! With the help of the wise poet Vyasa, and his friend Mr. Mouse, Ganesha learns that what seems broken can be quite useful after all. With vibrant, graphic illustrations, expressive characters, and offbeat humor, this is a wonderfully inventive rendition of a classic tale. Praise for Ganesha’s Sweet Tooth “Pink elephants haven’t looked this good since Dumbo.” —The New York Times “Beautifully presented. . . . So sweet we almost want to pop it in our mouths.” —Entertainment Weekly “Stylish. . . . A fresh and comedic introduction to a Hindu legend, with a winning combination of both eye candy and actual candy.” —Publishers Weekly “Bright, elaborately detailed illustrations. . . . Grade-schoolers. . . . will enjoy the story’s turnarounds and focus on luscious sweets, and many will be ready for the classic Hindu myth.” —Booklist

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the motif of the spiritual journey and its evolution in Western literature. A spiritual journey can be broadly defined as a search for the divine. Such a search can occur either internally as a psychological process or in some cases may involve an actual geographic journey. Spiritual journeys can be conducted by individuals or groups. In exploring this topic, various kinds of texts will be reviewed, including autobiographies, novels, and short stories, as well as myths, folktales, and mystical writings. The book classifies spiritual journey narratives into four categories: theological journeys, mystical journeys, mythopoetic journeys and allegorical journeys. Representative texts have been selected in the history of Western religious literature that illustrate the basic features of each of these four categories.

Book excerpt: Poetry. "'Against Suicide' is the title of one sequence in STRIVEN, THE BRIGHT TREATISE but could just as easily stand for the whole. A lyric manifesto, by turns probing and furious, STRIVEN, THE BRIGHT TREATISE enlarges upon the poet's brother's death in 2007. 'Can you psalm / this limit-work, ' Pethybridge asks, echoing Zukofsky; the limit of such work-in-language, such unpronounceable grief, is, ultimately, a Nessus-garment of a text, 'a shirt of beautiful / noise.'" G. C. Waldrep "In his cunningly evolving repetitions, in his provocative use of constraints, and in his adaptations of great works (from Dante's to David Bowie's), Pethybridge's STRIVEN, THE BRIGHT TREATISE exemplifies every element of Theodor Adorno's assertion that the unresolved antagonisms of reality reappear in art in the guise of immanent problems of artistic form. Pethybridge reveals a complex of eroding societal values and human failings as he navigates the impossibility of coming to terms with his brother's suicide. But, even as he reveals, he uses his formal range to query the vanity of trusting any lyric as a device capable of conveying the enormity of revelation that suicide engenders. Each formal design strives to bring to light more of the irresolvable elements that constitute this crisis of loss, though the poems are, in fact, testament to the possibility of shedding the brightest light on the motivations activating the agency of such striving. It is not a book bent upon understanding, and certainly not condoning, the choice of suicide though Pethybridge unearths many of the societal and personal antecedents of such a choice. Rather it is a text that formally explores every interstice of the zone between the irretrievable past and ongoing present, which the grammatical form of the word 'striven' suggests (past participle, used in the perfect tenses). This is a poetry that helps us to perceive that interminable bridge between past and present in all of its terrible normalcy, a bridge that carries us to the core of our human condition." Rusty Morrison "Sleeplessness and boundless sleep. These two poles constrain Jeffrey Pethybridge's STRIVEN, THE BRIGHT TREATISE. Rather, these are two obvious limits within which the book is made. Pethybridge is a formalist of the best sort, wracked into song by relentless reconsideration of the impossible situation any limit presents in itself: stretched between his bonds and singing in 'middle living.' This study in fraternal grief is also an anatomy of the process whereby we bear directly into pain, not that we 'lose the name of action, ' as Hamlet would have it, but as the only way to act and effectively to live out 'the haul of days.'" Aaron McCollough"
