This book was released on 1974 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A simulator study of STOL airworthiness criteria was conducted using a model of an augmentor wing transport. This study covered the approach, flare and landing, go-around, and takeoff phases of flight. The two volumes of this report document the results of that investigation. Volume One summarizes the results and discusses possible implications with regard to airworthiness criteria. The results provide a data base for future STOL airworthiness requirements and a preliminary indication of potential problem areas. The results are also compared to the results from an earlier simulation of the Breguet 941S. Where possible, airworthiness criteria are proposed for consideration.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes the results of a joint NASA-FAA research program directed toward development of civil airworthiness flight-criteria for power-lift transports. Tentative criteria are proposed for performance and handling characteristics for powered-lift transport aircraft in commercial service. The aircraft considered are primarily wing-supported vehicles which rely upon the propulsion system for a significant portion of lift and control. VTOL aircraft are excluded. The flight criteria treat primarily the approach and landing flight phases, because it is in these flight phases that the greatest use of powered lift is made, and the greatest differences from conventional aircraft tend to appear. Consequently, the flight task tends to become most demanding. The tentative criteria are based on simulation and flight experience with a variety of powered-lift concepts. These concepts have not employed flight director, advanced displays, or advanced augmentation systems. The tentative criteria proposed were formulated by a working group comprised of representatives of the U.S., British, French, and Canadian airworthiness authorities, as well as research personnel of the NASA and other organizations. It is recognized that more work is needed to assure general applicability of the critera. (Author).

Book excerpt: Airworthiness: An Introduction to Aircraft Certification and Operations, Third Edition, once again proves to be a valuable, user-friendly reference guide for certification engineers engaged in professional training and practical work in regulatory agencies and aircraft engineering companies. The discussions reflect the recent changes in the EASA-FAA regulations and also include the concepts of flight safety and airworthiness; the ICAO and civil aviation authorities; airworthiness requirements; type certifications and the type-certification process; production of products, parts, and appliances; certifications of airworthiness; and rules for spaceworthiness. Since publication of the second edition, airworthiness regulation and certification around the world have gone through significant changes. For example, EASA structure has completely changed, FAA rules are no longer applicable, substantial changes have been made in the international airworthiness regulations and certification procedures, and unmanned aircraft have evolved technically and operationally. The changes in airworthiness regulations in the last five years have been striking, changing the way in which we look at airworthiness and certification processes around the world. - Includes updates throughout to reflect changes to the airworthiness regulations of the two most influential ruling authorities—EASA and FAA - Includes an update on remotely piloted air systems as well as space vehicles - Provides guidelines to shape a comprehensive 'certification map' including comparisons, explanations, and backgrounds of institutions and processes - Features a new chapter "Certificates of Airworthiness and Permits to Fly" that provides an overall description of the requirements governing the certificates of airworthiness

Book excerpt: A simulation program was conducted to examine specific airworthiness criteria proposed by the STOL Standards Development Working Group. The simulation included an airplane model which was deliberately designed to just meet as many of the proposed criteria as possible. The specific areas of investigation were longitudinal flight path/flight reference control, limiting flight conditions and safety margins, and propulsion system failure. Simulation results largely confirmed the approaches taken by the Working Group and aided in providing additional numerical definition of criteria. (AUthor).

Book excerpt: Harmonization of Airworthiness Standards-Miscellaneous Structures Requirements (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Harmonization of Airworthiness Standards-Miscellaneous Structures Requirements (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 This final rule amends certain airworthiness regulations for transport category airplanes, based on recommendations from the FAA-sponsored Aviation Rulemaking Advisory Committee (ARAC). This amendment eliminates regulatory differences between the airworthiness standards of the FAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This final rule does not add new requirements beyond what manufacturers currently meet for EASA certification and does not affect current industry design practices. This final rule revises the structural test requirements necessary when analysis has not been found reliable; clarifies the quality control, inspection, and testing requirements for critical and non-critical castings; adds control system requirements that consider structural deflection and vibration loads; expands the fuel tank structural and system requirements regarding emergency landing conditions and landing gear failure conditions; adds a requirement that engine mount failure due to overload must not cause hazardous fuel spillage; and revises the inertia forces requirements for cargo compartments by removing the exclusion of compartments located below or forward of all occupants in the airplane. This book contains: - The complete text of the Harmonization of Airworthiness Standards-Miscellaneous Structures Requirements (US Federal Aviation Administration Regulation) (FAA) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section
