Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions László P. Csernai University of Bergen, Norway Written for postgraduates and advanced undergraduates in physics, this clear and concise work covers a wide range of subjects from intermediate to ultra-relativistic energies, thus providing an introductory overview of heavy ion physics. The reader is introduced to essential principles in heavy ion physics through a variety of questions, with answers, of varying difficulty. This timely text is based on a series of well received lectures given by Professor L. Csernai at the University of Minnesota, and the University of Bergen, where the author is based.
Book Synopsis Heavy Ion Collisions by : Paul Bonche

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1984 Cargese Advanced Study Institute was devoted to the study of nuclear heavy ion collisions at medium and ultrarelativis tic energies. The origin of this meeting goes back to 1982 when the organizers met at the GANIL laboratory in Caen, France which had just started accelerating argon ions at 44 MeV per nucleon. We then realized that 1984 should be the appropriate time to review the first results obtained with such new kinds of facilities. The material contained in this volume, presenting many beautiful re sults on nuclei at high excitation, fully confirms this point. Many stimulating exchanges between experts in rather diffe rent fields already took place during the school and we hope that this cross fertilization will lead to further developments. About half of the present volume is also devoted to the field of relativistic heavy ion collisions, which is now expanding rapidly. As an illustration, let us recall that the construction of a 30 on 30 GeV per nucleon collider at Brookhaven has been recognized last year as one cf the major priorities by the US Nuclear Science Advisory Committee. We would like to express our gratitude to NATO for its ge nerous financial support which made this institute possible. We also wish to thank the Institut de Physique Nucleaire et de Physique des Particules (France), the Commissariat a l'energie atomique (France) and The National Science Foundation (USA) for the attribution of travel grants.
Book Synopsis Tours Symposium On Nuclear Physics by : M Ohta
Download or read book Tours Symposium On Nuclear Physics written by M Ohta and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-03-31 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mesoscopic domain encompasses structures that are best described in terms of the time and length scales which lie between the two extremes of the molecular and the phenomenological description of materials. Important examples of such structures are self-assemblies, emulsions, gels, colloids aggregates and macromolecules networks. Discussing the key advances made in recent years in our understanding of both equilibrium and dynamic aspects of mesoscopic structures, most talks at the conference were given by world class researchers in the field, who included, among others, Prof J S Higgins, CBE, FRS (Imperial College, London), Prof D Frenkel (FOM, Amsterdam), Prof M E Cates (Edinburgh), Prof R C Ball (Warwick), Prof S Ramaswamy (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore), Prof R Pandit (Bangalore), Dr J A Yeomans (Oxford), Prof S Puri (JNU, New Delhi), Dr D Langevin (CRPP, Bordeaux), and Prof W G M Agterof (Unilever Research, Vlaardingen).
Book Synopsis Theory of Nuclear Fission by : Hans J. Krappe
Download or read book Theory of Nuclear Fission written by Hans J. Krappe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-06 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together various aspects of the nuclear fission phenomenon discovered by Hahn, Strassmann and Meitner almost 70 years ago. Beginning with an historical introduction the authors present various models to describe the fission process of hot nuclei as well as the spontaneous fission of cold nuclei and their isomers. The role of transport coefficients, like inertia and friction in fission dynamics is discussed. The effect of the nuclear shell structure on the fission probability and the mass and kinetic energy distributions of the fission fragments is presented. The fusion-fission process leading to the synthesis of new isotopes including super-heavy elements is described. The book will thus be useful for theoretical and experimental physicists, as well as for graduate and PhD students.
