Since fat-free margarine has been found to be a substitute for dead man's toe, she's hopeful that she'll find one. Then there's all the so-called normal stuff. Like high school, her annoyingly selfish "friend" Anya, and her crush on Anya's ex-boyfriend Jake. Now, Zoe's dad is dating Jake's mom, and things are getting more and more complicated. If only Zoe could brew a potion or two and set everything straight. Zoe can't. If she brews a self-serving potion, bad things will happen to her appearance. Like a crooked nose, giant wart, green skin, rotting teeth--the whole ugly witch stereotype. Zoe's tired of fate interfering so cruelly in her life. Can you really blame her for putting her potions to not-so-good use and stirring up trouble?"--Publisher's description.

Pillow. When Scottish Warlock Fergus MacGregor is around their new neighbor Donna Montgomery, he feels something he hasn't felt for a long time. He is still holding on to the memory of his first love who died centuries ago. He's tried everything to bring Elspeth back from the dead. None of his magic spells, potions, sorcery or incantations have worked. His family thinks it's time he moves on. Is fate giving him a second chance at love, or will falling for Donna stir a powerful supernatural force that intends to cause nothing but trouble? From the Highlands of Scotland to the valleys of Wisconsin... Book Three of the Warlocks MacGregor® series by NY Times and USA TODAY Bestselling Author, Michelle M. Pillow. This is a novella length story. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ About the Warlocks MacGregor® Series People know magic is fake--card tricks and illusions, magicians and entertainers. But there is an older magick, a powerful force hidden from modern eyes, buried in folklore and myths, remembered by the few who practice the old ways and respect the lessons of past generations. The term "warlock" is a variation on the Old English word waerloga, primarily used by the Scots. It meant traitor, monster or deceiver. This fiction-based family includes males and females of magick. The MacGregors do not agree with how history has labeled them, or other supernaturals. To them, warlock means magick, family, and immortality. This series is not a portrayal of modern-day witchcraft or those who hold such beliefs. The MacGregors are a magickal class all their own. Warning: Contains yummy, hot, mischievous MacGregors who may or may not be wearing clothing and who are almost certainly up to no good on their quest to find true love. Praise For Stirring Up Trouble 5 Stars! "Author Michelle M Pillow never fails to entertain - especially with this series. It is another rollicking good time with the MacGregor clan - a clan of ancient warlocks." Kathy Brenzi, Bookbub (2021) 5 Stars! "The Scottish shenanigans are back again with this book and they will have you rolling on the floor laughing. Well when you aren’t shedding tears for lost love and new love that seems lost already." Sydneyn06 Bookbub (2020) 5 Stars! "The next in this engaging series about modern day Scottish warlocks. ... Settle down for a great mixture of fantasy, magic, mischief, adventure and hot romance." Book excerpt: It’s a surprise twist for an adventuresome author when sparks fly in the Blue Ridge Mountains in this romance novel by the USA Today bestselling author. Romance author Sloane Russo turned a decade of whimsical travel into a career writing steamy novels set in exotic places. Now she needs to take a temporary job in the Blue Ridge Mountains to bankroll her next far-flung adventure. But tutoring thirteen-year-old Bree comes with a seriously distracting temptation: Bree’s half-brother is hot, handsome, and oh-so-hard-headed. Gavin Carmichael isn't some impulsive Don Juan like the men in Sloane's novels. Working hard to raise Bree on his own, he acts like he's never even heard of fun. But behind his gruff exterior is a broken heart that longs for something more. Sloane is way too unpredictable to be his idea of a good tutor, but the sexy anti-nanny may be his perfect match.

Book excerpt: In a series of feisty and ultimately hopeful essays, one of America's sharpest social critics casts a shrewd eye over contemporary culture to reveal the worst -- and the best -- of our habits of discourse, tendencies in education, and obsessions with technological novelty. Readers will find themselves rethinking many of their bedrock assumptions: Should education transmit culture or defend us against it? Is technological innovation progress or a peculiarly American addiction? When everyone watches the same television programs -- and television producers don't discriminate between the audiences for Sesame Street and Dynasty -- is childhood anything more than a sentimental concept? Writing in the traditions of Orwell and H.L. Mencken, Neil Postman sends shock waves of wit and critical intelligence through the cultural wasteland.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For seven days in April 1968, students occupied five buildings on the campus of Columbia University to protest a planned gymnasium in a nearby Harlem park, links between the university and the Vietnam War, and what they saw as the university’s unresponsive attitude toward their concerns. Exhilarating to some and deeply troubling to others, the student protests paralyzed the university, grabbed the world’s attention, and inspired other uprisings. Fifty years after the events, A Time to Stir captures the reflections of those who participated in and witnessed the Columbia rebellion. With more than sixty essays from members of the Columbia chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, the Students’ Afro-American Society, faculty, undergraduates who opposed the protests, “outside agitators,” and members of the New York Police Department, A Time to Stir sheds light on the politics, passions, and ideals of the 1960s. Moving beyond accounts from the student movement’s white leadership, this book presents the perspectives of black students, who were grappling with their uneasy integration into a supposedly liberal campus, as well as the views of women, who began to question their second-class status within the protest movement and society at large. A Time to Stir also speaks to the complicated legacy of the uprising. For many, the events at Columbia inspired a lifelong dedication to social causes, while for others they signaled the beginning of the chaos that would soon engulf the left. Taken together, these reflections present a nuanced and moving portrait that reflects the sense of possibility and excess that characterized the 1960s.

The consequences of the choices we make in life determine which way it will be. We cant control many of lifes events, but we can control how we deal with them. Our responsibility is to build a successful life in a world of confusion, pain, and disorientation. In Choices: Responsible Decisions for a Godly Life, author Dr. Robert F. Kirk explains that each of us is responsible for the outcome of our life. The individual choices we make in life determine what we will become. Kirk discusses the natural and spiritual choices that determine our success or failure, and he recommends the Book of Proverbs as a guide for Godly wisdom to assist us in those decisions. The Book of Proverbs, a powerful book that provides instruction and guidance, instructs us to partner with God in our choices using His wisdom. We dont have to travel the road of life alone. However, we must make our own choices and we need to choose wisely to be successful. Choices: Responsible Decisions for a Godly Life will help you make a plan for wise decisions in your life.

Book excerpt: The present volume is based on a conference held in October 2019 at the Faculty of Theology of Humboldt University Berlin as part of a common project of the Australian Catholic University, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Humboldt University Berlin. The aim is to discuss the relationships of “Jews” and “Christians” in the first two centuries CE against the background of recent debates which have called into question the image of “parting ways” for a description of the relationships of Judaism and Christianity in antiquity. One objection raised against this metaphor is that it accentuates differences at the expense of commonalities. Another critique is that this image looks from a later perspective at historical developments which can hardly be grasped with such a metaphor. It is more likely that distinctions between Jews, Christians, Jewish Christians, Christian Jews etc. are more blurred than the image of “parting ways” allows. In light of these considerations the contributions in this volume discuss the cogency of the “parting of the ways”-model with a look at prominent early Christian writers and places and suggest more appropriate metaphors to describe the relationships of Jews and Christians in the early period.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three decades after the end of World War II saw the rise and fall of a particular version of liberalism in which the state committed itself to promoting a modest form of economic egalitarianism while simultaneously embracing ethnic, racial, and religious pluralism. But by the mid-1970s, postwar liberalism was in a shambles: while its commitment to pluralism remained, its economic policies had been abandoned, and the Democratic Party, its primary political vehicle, was collapsing. Schiller attributes this demise to the legal architecture of postwar liberalism, arguing that postwar liberalism's goals of advancing economic egalitarianism and promoting pluralism ultimately conflicted with each other. Through the use of specific historical examples, Schiller demonstrates that postwar liberalism was riddled with legal and institutional contradictions that undermined progressive politics in the mid-twentieth-century United States.
