Book Synopsis Jazz and the Classical Guitar by : Ken Hatfield
Download or read book Jazz and the Classical Guitar written by Ken Hatfield and published by Mel Bay Publications. This book was released on 2011-12-06 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is designed to familiarize classical guitarists with the musical vocabulary of jazz, and to encourage jazz guitarists to explore the beautiful sonorities and limitless expressive potential of the classical guitar. the first half of the book contains theoretical explanations focused on harmonic analysis of the types of chord changes and song forms one routinely encounters in the jazz repertoire, as it demonstrates the application of all twelve notes of the chromatic scale to any chord in any situation. the second half of the book is comprised of Ken Hatfield's original compositions and transcriptions of his improvised solos. Both the tunes and the transcribed solos demonstrate how the theoretical material in the first half of the book can be artfully applied within the context of compositions representing three musical genres that have served as wellsprings of renewal throughout jazz's deep and illustrious history: blues, rhythm changes, and standards. the 14-track companion CD includes all the music from the second half of the book. the music is recorded in a variety of contexts, including solo, duo, trio, and quartets of differing strumentations. Two of the songs are designed so that the student can play along with the rhythm section. Twelve songs feature Ken playing the heads and the solos. Ten of these are transcribed in their entirety, while two leave the solos for the student to transcribe (in total or in part) as ear training exercises.

Trouble comes to Abilene in an unexpected armed attack on the town and its residents in 1971 by KKK and "rugged individualists" out for revenge for the conviction and imprisonment in Abilene of their relatives and cronies in past years. Following the "troubles," the author writes of protagonists Mike and Mariah's teaching at the Dwight D. Eisenhower College in Abilene, the birth of their daughter Ariel Sarah O'Brien Palafox, and the Palafox family's travel to Spain. With the passage of time and events in Abilene, Mike and Marah make a life changing move back east and work and teaching at Harvard. Book Two - a Novella - Ballad of the "Smoky Hill River Rambler" tells the story of Abilene's Mickey Clancy's dream of performing (singing and playing guiitar, including classical guitar) in the restaurants and bars in Durango and other towns of Southwest Colorado. Book Synopsis All Fourths: A Method For EADGCF Tuning On Guitar by : Masaya Yamaguchi
Download or read book All Fourths: A Method For EADGCF Tuning On Guitar written by Masaya Yamaguchi and published by Masaya Music. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Guitar Method utilizing all fourths tuning (E, A, D, G, C, F - low to high). If I was starting to learn to play the guitar today, and somebody gave me a guitar today, I'd tune it in straight fourths without a doubt. Just like the six-string bass, 'cause to find that B string is a pain, and it's unnecessary, 'cause you play ... you know ... there's only a few of us that go around bashing out power chords anymore, so you don't need that anyway, so if I was to learn again, it's just that it's been so many years trying to beat the B string that I can't go and un-beat it. --Allan Holdsworth
Book Synopsis YAMAGUCHI Guitar Method by : Masaya Yamaguchi
Download or read book YAMAGUCHI Guitar Method written by Masaya Yamaguchi and published by Masaya Music. This book was released on 2013-05-22 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to answer guitarists demands for my lessons. Ultimately, it depends on who will learn it and how they utilize my method. Over the years, I had been asked to compile my guitar method book, but I was very reluctant to do so until I completed my improvisation book Yamaguchi Improvisation Method (New York: Masaya Music, 2012). Because after all, my priority is to teach music, especially improvised music --- not how to play the guitar. Though this book required a huge amount of work to complete, I finished it for all my fellow guitar players, who regularly use my The Complete Thesaurus of Musical Scales. The YAMAGUCHI Guitar method in this book is highly original and much different from most books in today s jazz pedagogy. This is a new kind of guitar method book that will leave no student behind if you interpret my words correctly. I hope the YAMAGUCHI Guitar method will guide you to unlock melodic possibilities and broaden your musical vocabulary. GOOD LUCK!
