A er two years of college in 1964 he joined the United States Marine Corps where he spent the next five years flying helicopters. He also flew helicopters for Air America for a year a er the service. Returning to Arizona in 1971 he finished college and graduated from Arizona State University in 1975. He settled in Pinetop, Arizona in 1976 where he gained employment in the Land Surveying profession. He lives here today with his wife and teenage son and continues to work in Land Surveying. There have been many books written about the Viet Nam War covering such subjects as the ground war, the air war, the great battles and operations as well as the political aspects of the event. Over 60,000 Americans and 1.4 million Vietnamese soldiers, sailors and airmen and Marines made the supreme sacrifice during this war of insurgency. This book attempts to describe the horrors of the helicopter crews who spent most of their efforts saving lives of wounded Americans, Vietnamese, and even enemy soldiers. The author survived over 600 missions as a helicopter pilot during the period when the DMZ was being militarized and the battle of Khe Sanh, when the U. S. Marines took the area away from the North Vietnamese regulars, as well as many missions of mercy to save lives in areas where small skirmishes were the order of the day. Not many people have heard of the H-34 helicopter because the military historians have largely ignored it due to the desire of the promoters to tout the newer developments in rotary wing phenomena like the ubiquitous huey and Boeing Vertol H-46 and Chinook models. The vast majority of lives saved during the periods mentioned above were saved in the H-34 helicopter. The crews of these obsolete flying machines were some of the best men to ever come into the field of aviation.

It is a controversial theory, and it has many opponents. Yet effective debate among realists and those who identify with other schools of thought has diminished dramatically over time. As Patrick James argues in Realism and International Relations, scholars in the field have become dissatisfied with results from exchanges in words alone. He contends that translation of the vast amount of information in the field into knowledge requires a greater emphasis on communication beyond the use of text. Given the challenges posed by existing and intensifying information overload, he develops a new model that relies on the graphic representation of analytical arguments. As James explains, realist scholarship in the post-World War II era is the natural domain for the application of systemism, a graphic form of expression with straightforward rules for portrayal of analytical arguments, notably cause and effect within theories. Systemism goes beyond prior iterations of systems theory to offer a visualization technique borrowed and adapted from the philosophy of science. The theme provided an organizing principle for Roger Kaplan's analysis of the evolution of the French left in the wake of events for which it was politically and intellectually unprepared. Kaplan provides a basis for understanding the performance of a French socialist regime in power, one more uncertain of its mission than at any other time in its history. The paradox of French radicalism is that when it was out of office, it was quite certain about its mission. When it attained power, it lost its sense of mission, and hence its confidence as to the proper uses of power. "Conservative Socialism" for Kaplan is not simply an invention of the Mitterand Era, but an ideology rooted in French history. Unwilling or unable to embrace the social democratic idea of the "third way," French socialism became a force to conserve particularism in French culture and nationalism in its foreign policies. While socialism had long become a force to inhibit the rise of capitalism and freedom in France, the decline of its radicalism was inevitable. This is because in a country as conservative as France it was necessary for socialists and their assorted allies, to project a conservative image to be trusted. In France, the Left has abandoned the idea of radicalism so as to exercise power. He argues persuasively and fairly that the French Left is alive if not well. The Left rose to power in France despite its policy failures, embarrassments, because it transcended the "end" to which its political dogma would have consigned it.
