Book Synopsis Statistical Analysis of Climate Extremes by : Manfred Mudelsee
Download or read book Statistical Analysis of Climate Extremes written by Manfred Mudelsee and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The risks posed by climate change and its effect on climate extremes are an increasingly pressing societal problem. This book provides an accessible overview of the statistical analysis methods which can be used to investigate climate extremes and analyse potential risk. The statistical analysis methods are illustrated with case studies on extremes in the three major climate variables: temperature, precipitation, and wind speed. The book also provides datasets and access to appropriate analysis software, allowing the reader to replicate the case study calculations. Providing the necessary tools to analyse climate risk, this book is invaluable for students and researchers working in the climate sciences, as well as risk analysts interested in climate extremes.

Book Synopsis Design of Buildings and Bridges for Wind by : Emil Simiu
Download or read book Design of Buildings and Bridges for Wind written by Emil Simiu and published by Wiley. This book was released on 2006-03-10 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design of Buildings and Bridges for Wind is a practical guide that uses physical and intuitive approaches, and practical examples, to demonstrate how to interpret and use provisions of the ASCE-7 Standard and design structures for strength and serviceability. Written by two of the world's foremost wind engineering experts, this unique text is written specifically for designers and structural engineers. Covering routine buildings, tall buildings, and bridges, Design of Buildings and Bridges for Wind contains a wealth of step-by-step numerical examples to assist structural engineers in understanding and using the elements of wind and structural engineering required for design. This hands-on guide features: * Information on how to determine design wind loads and wind effects for both routine and special structures * Information allowing structural engineers to effectively scrutinize estimates of wind effects submitted by wind engineering consultants * Clear, transparent procedures for developing estimates of wind effects based on aerodynamic data supplied in electronic form by wind tunnel operators * Access to wind speed databases and software for determining wind effects on rigid and flexible structures (nist.gov/wind)

Book Synopsis Wind Forces in Engineering by : Peter Sachs
Download or read book Wind Forces in Engineering written by Peter Sachs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind Forces in Engineering, Second Edition covers the various aspects, principles, and engineering applications of wind forces. This book is composed of 10 chapters and starts with an introduction to the history of wind forces. The subsequent chapters consider the wind speeds for various topographies; particular "shape factors" for general and special structures; oscillatory wind forces of a random or single-frequency type; and the dynamic response of structures to oscillatory wind forces. Other chapters deal with specific structures, such as buildings, bridges, towers, radar antennas, for static and dynamic wind loadings. The final chapter provides the Code of Practice which has been republished since 1972, including those for Australia, Canada, Great Britain and the U.S.A. These codes do not provide similar responses and are all essentially in a transitional state between the old static force concept and an improved statistical analysis to be based on more experimental evidence. This book will prove useful to engineers and researchers.

Book Synopsis Analysis of a Rotatable Wind Turbine Tower by means of Aero-Servo-Elastic Load Simulations by : Struve, Achim
Download or read book Analysis of a Rotatable Wind Turbine Tower by means of Aero-Servo-Elastic Load Simulations written by Struve, Achim and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2021-04-12 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work highlights how the costs and CO2-emissions of land-based wind turbines can be reduced by means of an innovative and material efficient support structure concept. Thereby the yaw system is placed at the tower base, allowing the whole wind turbine tower to be rotated. The potential of a rotatable inclined lattice tower concept was analysed by means of aero-servo-elastic load simulations in the FAST environment. A balance between different cost aspects revealed significant savings.
