Book Synopsis Christian Labyrinths by : Daniel Mitsui
Download or read book Christian Labyrinths written by Daniel Mitsui and published by . This book was released on 2017-08-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Color your way through intricately detailed labyrinths to discover the spiritual richness within. As you color, you will reveal prayers and verses hidden in the Celtic patterns. Acclaimed artist Daniel Mitsui draws on such medieval manuscripts as the Book of Kells to create thirty original coloring pages that will help you contemplate your faith and grow closer to Christ. In his third and most ambitious adult coloring book, Mitsui creates illustrations inspired by medieval manuscripts such as the Book of Kells and the Lindisfarne Gospels. This Celtic style is characterized by intricate knot or spiral decorations and highly stylized calligraphy. Also fascinated by the tile labyrinths decorating the floors of medieval churches, Mitsui combines these two popular genres into beautifully detailed coloring pages. Christian Labyrinths features three types of artwork, each offering a unique meditative experience: Labyrinths pages portray Biblical scenes surrounded and connected by paths made up of interconnected knots and spirals. "Carpet" pages feature richly detailed patterns forming traditional Christian shapes. Cryptogram pages contain hidden messages in the design that are revealed when color fills them. Following the practice of great monastic scribe Eadfrith of Lindisfarne, Mitsui has included a single, small, deliberate mistake on each page of the book, providing an extra level of challenge and interest to coloring enthusiasts.

Book Synopsis Stations of the Cross by : Mary Jane MIller
Download or read book Stations of the Cross written by Mary Jane MIller and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Stations of the Cross became a Christian devotional practice in the thirteenth century. This collection of image and text highlights new perspectives on an ancient tradition. Miller has used the ritual metaphorically to journey with Jesus Christ from his trial to his entombment. The participants use Christian art to meditation on the Biblical story. The story of Jesus Christ's final sufferings reveal themselves like a passion play as we walk with Him to Mount Calvary. Sacred Art is more than biblical story telling. These 15 Stations of the Cross were designed to help navigate through a prescribed set of messages and motif to understand better how we humans fit into Christ's message of love. Three times he meets the Women, three times he falls and is only helped once, He is stripped of his dignity yet is resurrected into light and loving energy. The hope is to understand the ritual practice, which is no longer limited to only church, but speaks of our human capacity to go beyond suffering. Stations of the Cross is an ancient prayer form. Catholics and most Christians use religious rituals and prayer forms for meditation and reflection. The Biblical story of Jesus Christ's final sufferings reveal themselves like a passion play as we walk with Him to Mount Calvary. The visual art is a beautiful contemporary compliment.
Book Synopsis Sweet Jesus, Is It June Yet? by : Amy J. Cattapan
Download or read book Sweet Jesus, Is It June Yet? written by Amy J. Cattapan and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2021-08-20 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: You work hard to motivate your students every day, but where can you find the inspiration you need when teaching gets tough or your passion for the classroom starts to wane? Veteran teacher Amy J. Cattapan invites you to look to the greatest teacher of all time—Jesus. With humor and stories from the trenches, Cattapan draws valuable insight and tools from the Gospels and shares ten life-changing principles every teacher can learn from Jesus. In Sweet Jesus, Is It June Yet?, she’ll help you hang onto your sanity and fulfill your calling even when you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and on the verge of burnout. Classroom burnout is real. About 44 percent of new teachers in New York leave the profession by their fourth year and 40 percent of new teachers leave Chicago schools within five years. All over the country, managing online instruction has only added to the pressures teachers face. In order to combat frustration and burnout, Cattapan will help you: remember where your calling began; rediscover who this is all about; know when to lean on others for help; learn how Jesus dealt with challenges; and understand that God’s grace really is enough. Whether you’re a brand new teacher, a veteran educator, or a homeschooling parent, you’ll find wisdom—and more than a few laughs—in Cattapan’s reflections on the Great Teacher and in classroom stories straight from the front lines.

Book Synopsis Through the Day, Through the Night by : Jan Vansina
Download or read book Through the Day, Through the Night written by Jan Vansina and published by University of Wisconsin Pres. This book was released on 2014-05-20 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of twelve children in a close-knit, affluent Catholic Belgian family, Jan Vansina began life in a seemingly sheltered environment. But that cocoon was soon pierced by the escalating tensions and violence that gripped Europe in the 1930s and 1940s. In this book Vansina recalls his boyhood and youth in Antwerp, Bruges, and the Flemish countryside as the country was rocked by waves of economic depression, fascism, competing nationalisms, and the occupation of first Axis and then Allied forces. Within the vast literature on World War II, a much smaller body of work treats the everyday experiences of civilians, particularly in smaller countries drawn into the conflict. Recalling the war in Belgium from a child’s-eye perspective, Vansina describes pangs of hunger so great as to make him crave the bitter taste of cod-liver oil. He vividly remembers the shock of seeing severely wounded men on the grounds of a field hospital, the dangers of crossing fields and swimming in ponds strafed by planes, and his family’s interactions with occupying and escaping soldiers from both sides. After the war he recalls emerging numb from the cinema where he first saw the footage of the Nazi death camps, and he describes a new phase of unrest marked by looting, vigilante justice, and the country’s efforts at reunification. Vansina, a historian and anthropologist best known for his insights into oral tradition and social memory, draws on his own memories and those of his siblings to reconstruct daily life in Belgium during a tumultuous era.
