Download or read book Comprendre L'habitat de Hà Nội written by André Casault and published by Presses Université Laval. This book was released on 2006 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Children of Minorities by : Enzo Pace
Download or read book Children of Minorities written by Enzo Pace and published by UNICEF-IRC. This book was released on 1993 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The case of the Gypsies provides a clear example of a minority group suffering especially severe discrimination. In the majority of European countries, access to basic services is extremely limited for Gypsies, with serious results for the health and education of Gypsy children. This publication originated in a 2-day UNICEF workshop,"Growing Up as a Gypsy," held in Florence, Italy, in October 1992. "The Making of Minorities" (Enzo Pace) discusses societal and group factors that create a minority group, minority group survival strategies, and the particularly vulnerable situation of minority group children. "Growing Up As a Gypsy: Insights from the October 1992 UNICEF ICDC Workshop" (Sinead ni Shuinear) provides an overview of Gypsy child rearing and family life, access to health care, educational attitudes and attainment, housing practices and problems, and the role of the Gypsy child in family economics and employment. Recommendations include development of an information base and proposals for action in the areas of legal issues, accommodation, services, and social mobilization. "Gypsy Children in Europe: An Overview" (Sandro Costarelli) presents facts and figures about Gypsy children, covering legal status, demography, infant mortality, child morbidity, housing, child institutionalization, school attendance and completion, juvenile crime, and adult unemployment. "Gypsy Life in Four European Countries" (Sandro Costarelli) presents a comparative analysis based on case studies in former Czechoslovakia, former Yugoslavia, France, and Italy. "Innovation and Change in Gypsy Communities" (Alain Reyniers) examines cultural adaptation, settlement, and political action by Gypsy communities. The document also contains an article "They Can See the Future and It Hurts" (Patricia Clough) which appeared in "The Independent", Oct. 26, 1991. Contains a list of workshop participants and many photographs. (SV)

Book Synopsis French-speaking Women Documentarians by : Janis L. Pallister
Download or read book French-speaking Women Documentarians written by Janis L. Pallister and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French-Speaking Women Documentarians is a guide for teachers of French and others interested in selecting and researching the work of female French-speaking documentarians. Represented in this book are filmmakers from Canada, various African nations, the Antilles, Lebanon, Switzerland, Belgium, and several other countries, with emphasis on Agnès Varda of France - arguably the greatest female documentarian of all. The book includes information on each filmmaker, classified by country of origin, and lists and describes her works, giving factual information such as date, duration, credits, and synopses, and pointing out critical treatments, both in English and in French, of her most important films. Shorts, docudramas, and works of animation are also discussed, as they, too, reflect history and culture. This guide will lead to the viewing of films that shed understanding on the culture being portrayed and to a greater appreciation of the contribution of French-speaking women filmmakers to this important, if not always objective, film genre.
Book Synopsis Sea Lions in the Parking Lot by : Lenora Todaro
Download or read book Sea Lions in the Parking Lot written by Lenora Todaro and published by Astra Publishing House. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What would happen if people all around the world stayed inside, away from animals' habitats? Twelve fascinating real-life stories of creatures around the globe who reclaimed their habitat during the COVID-19 quarantine show animal lovers and aspiring citizen scientists how to help wildlife by fighting habitat loss. With the skies, roads, and waterways clear and quiet during the COVID-19 pandemic, the natural world seemed to return to an earlier, wilder state. Animals crossed boundaries that people had set over centuries, reclaiming ancient habitats. From sea lions who clambered into a parking lot in Argentina to deer who wandered in a Japanese subway to lions lounging in the middle of South African roads to kangaroos who bounced through a shopping district in Australia, this thoroughly researched, stunningly illustrated book tells the stories of these newly footloose creatures -- and describes what the COVID-19 "pause" taught scientists about how ecosystems and wildlife can rebound if the right environmental conditions are achieved.
