Book Synopsis Deployment and Performance Characteristics of 5-foot-diameter (1.5 M) Attached Inflatable Decelerators from Mach Number 2.2 to 4.4 by : Herman L. Bohon
Download or read book Deployment and Performance Characteristics of 5-foot-diameter (1.5 M) Attached Inflatable Decelerators from Mach Number 2.2 to 4.4 written by Herman L. Bohon and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Deployment and performance characteristics of 5-Foot diameter (1.5m) Attached Inflatable Decelerators (AID) from Mach Numbers 2.2-4.4. Deployment characteristics and steady-state performance data were obtained over the Mach number range from 2.2 to 4.4 and at angles of attack from 0 degrees to 10 degrees. All attached inflatable decelerator (AID) models deployed successfully and exhibited flutter-free performance after deployment. Shock loads commonly associated with inflation of parachutes during deployment were not experienced. Force and moment data and ram-air pressure data were obtained throughout the Mach number range and at angles of attack from 0 degrees to l0 degrees. The high drag coefficient of 1.14 was in good agreement with the value predicted by the theory used in the design and indicated other AID shapes may be designed on a rational basis with a high degree of confidence.--NTIS Web site.
Book Synopsis Wake Properties Behind an Ejection Seat Escape System and Aerodynamic Characteristics with Stabilization Parachutes at Mach Numbers from 0.6 to 1.5 by : David E. A. Reichenau
Download or read book Wake Properties Behind an Ejection Seat Escape System and Aerodynamic Characteristics with Stabilization Parachutes at Mach Numbers from 0.6 to 1.5 written by David E. A. Reichenau and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A test was conducted in the Propulsion Wind Tunnel (16T) of the Propulsion Wind Tunnel Facility to determine the flow field in the wake of an ejection seat escape system at transonic flight conditions, and to determine the performance characteristics of a stabilization parachute attached to the back of the ejection seat model. The results were obtained for both simulated rocket-off and rocket-on conditions through a model angle-of-attack range from 0 to 30 deg. High pressure air was used to simulate the escape rocket jet plume at a sea-level altitude. The results show that the ejection seat model was statically unstable, but became longitudinally stable with the parachute for the test range investigated. (Author).
Book Synopsis Subsonic Pressure Distributions Around a Solid Model of an Inflatable Decelerator Attached to the Base of an Ogive-cylinder by : James Wayne Sawyer
Download or read book Subsonic Pressure Distributions Around a Solid Model of an Inflatable Decelerator Attached to the Base of an Ogive-cylinder written by James Wayne Sawyer and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wind-tunnel investigation was conducted at free-stream Mach numbers from 0.20 to 1.00 and corresponding Reynolds numbers, based on maximum afterbody diameter, from 2.25 x 106 to 6.90 x 106 on a solid model of an attached inflatable decelerator (AID) connected to the base of an ogive-cylinder. Tests were conducted to obtain ram-air and surface perssure distributons about the AID. AID shapes derived for subsonic deployment are dependent on the pressure distributions used in their derivation, and the different shapes obtained are dependent on the Mach number for which the design is made. The resulting pressure distributions were used in a design program to obtain new shapes which were compared with the original pressure-distribution shape.
