Book Synopsis Jewish Pride by : Michael Steinhardt
Download or read book Jewish Pride written by Michael Steinhardt and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2022-10-18 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Steinhardt left a stellar career on Wall Street and spent the next three decades launching revolutionary philanthropic programs like Birthright Israel and OneTable that offer a proud, rich future for the next generation of secular American Jews. What are the keys to a proud Jewish life? Part memoir, part manifesto, Michael Steinhardt’s Jewish Pride offers a compelling vision for a rich, rewarding future for Jews in America and around the world. From his middle class beginnings in Brooklyn to a spectacular Wall Street career, Steinhardt understood that apathy and assimilation were threatening the Jewish future in America. Meanwhile established Jewish institutions were failing in the urgent task of strengthening secular Jewish identity. Using his own capital and the wisdom and connections he’d gained in his successful business career, Steinhardt recruited partners, focused on data and results, and even got the Israeli government to help launch the revolutionary Birthright program. By turns provocative, inspiring, revealing, and outright hilarious, Jewish Pride captures its author’s unique personality and outlook and offers honest talk about the Jewish world today, along with a bold prescription for revitalizing Jewish life in the future.

Book Synopsis God in the Landscape by : Kerrie Handasyde
Download or read book God in the Landscape written by Kerrie Handasyde and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2021-07-15 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shows how creative writing gives voice to the drama and nuance of religious experience in a way that is rarely captured by sermons, reports, and the minutes of church meetings. The author explores the history of religious Dissent and Evangelicalism in Australia through a variety of literary responses to landscape, from both men and women, lay and ordained. The book explores transnational themes, along with themes of migration and travel across the Australian continent. The author gives insight into the literature of Protestant Dissent, concerned as it is with travel, belonging, and the intersection of national and religious identity. Much of the writing is situated on the road: a soldier returning from the Great War, a child on a lone adventure, a night-time journey through urban slums; all of these are in some way dependent on the theme of “walking with Jesus” as the Holy Land travelogues make explicit. God in the Landscape draws the links between landscape, literature, and spirituality with imagination and insight and is an important contribution to the historical study of religion and the environment.

In this book, my goal is to help churches and ministries across the United States?large and small, denominational and non-denominational?understand how to align institutions and congregations to receive the abundance intended under the Federal government?s faithbased grants initiative.

Book Synopsis The Rhetoric of Church and State by : Frederick Mark Gedicks
Download or read book The Rhetoric of Church and State written by Frederick Mark Gedicks and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the middle of the twentieth century, the religiously informed communitarianism that had guided the Supreme Court's decisions regarding the relationship between church and state was partially displaced by a new secular individualist discourse. In The Rhetoric of Church and State, Frederick Mark Gedicks argues that this partial and incomplete shift is the key to understanding why the Court has failed--and continues today to fail--to provide a coherent doctrine on church/state separation. Gedicks suggests that the Supreme Court's inconsistent decisions mirror a divergence in American society between an increasingly secular public culture and the primarily devout private lives of the majority of Americans. He notes that while the Court is committed to principles of secular individualism, it has repeatedly endorsed government actions that violate those principles--actions that would be far more justifiable under the discourse of religious communitarianism. The impossibility of reconciling the two discourses leaves the Court no choice but to efface--often implausibly--the religious nature of practices it deems permissible. Gedicks concludes that the road to a coherent religion clause doctrine lies neither in a return to religious communitarianism nor in its complete displacement by secular individualism, but in a yet-to-be-identified discourse that would attract popular support while protecting a meaningful measure of religious freedom.
